I get paid %10 more for working nights and dont have to deal with office politics. plus, more freedom at night. WHen its not busy, I bring my laptop to work and play ESO, or wath netflix of whatever.

I manage 4 shift teams and if things were quiet enough to play ESO on shift then it would be time to make some cuts!

The real issue for Europe is that the maintenance is done together with the US Server.
Employees are paid for doing a job, just pay a bit more and make them work at night so we (from Europe) can have server maintenance while we're sleeping and it's all logical and fine.

Since you work in a data center and understand the "server" is actually a matrix of servers then you would understand it is an increased technical challenge updating the server while it is online.
AAAGH! That's not what anyone is suggesting they do. They leave the online server online, they don't touch it, it stays as it is. They patch an offline server, then they swap them over. It doesn't matter if the "server" is a single machine or a cluster of thousands of them, the principle is the same. It's literally so simple even a five year old could understand it, and all the "but it's an MMO, therefore MAGIC" comments are just... they make me want to scream.

The only reason ZOS (and BLizzard, and whoever else) do it this half-baked way of shutting everything down for hours at a time is because doing it the sensible way costs money, but it's a single capital cost so I suspect that in terms of increased customer satisfaction and improved reliability they could claw that back fairly easily; imagine how popular the game would be if they could market it as "the MMO that we don't have to keep turning off and on again"!

Or deal with it like the rest of us.

    ...

You are not special. Get over yourself.

Oh, we have a spokesperson for the free world here telling others not only how "all of us" feel, but that as a complaining individual you're not special (which they obviously are by that logic).

Seriously, what you're saying is "we all have to buy that bread although it's moldy; if you don't like it be a baker.". While this may be an evolutionary correct response, this is enterprising and not mother nature, so the correct answer would be "if you don't like it, leave", or, in response "if you don't like my complaints, ignore them, you're not the recipient".

On a side note, what frustration entitled you to insulting other users out of friggin nowhere? "Your whiny OP comes off as entitled demands and sobbing exaggeration." "Keep crying. Won't change anything. Your parents should have taught you that."
Well I know what parents should have taught *you*.

Just funny how whenever someone uses adjectives to describe the tone of another persons comment... They are then accused of insulting people. Look, the OP is a negative post. It's certainly not a positive one. So if I describe it in a negative way, that's because IT IS A NEGATIVE DISCUSSION TO BEGIN WITH. I have just as much right to complain about complaining and exhibit the same level of entitlement that the OP started the discussion with as a response against their comments. And really, your condescending attitude is no different than mine. And go ahead and check my discussion history. Some of the threads I have made were attacked with the same hostility when I complained about invincible guards. Negative topics get negative responses, and entitled attitudes get met with the same entitlement. All of us are in the same boat, and as I said which you failed to quote me on, why not ask them WHY there is so much downtime instead of crying and demanding it be changed.

Well there's a simple answer to that: Because they don't answer. This has been asked before, many times. And this, by the way, is the only complaint I have - lack of good communication. This is not how you treat customers, and I guess most of the complaints would just disappear if they would be better here (although admittedly, they got better in the last few months).

Regarding your other comparison - would you agree that there's a difference when I would complain about a service I pay for, and you complaining about other peoples complaints which come absolutely free?

Addendum: It doesn't even matter if the complaint makes any sense, let alone if I'd agree. Of course you're entitled to complain about matters you don't like. Would be bad if you couldn't. Imagine that.

I pay for the same service, which your complaints possibly alter if you are bringing unnecessary discomfort to the community. Bad attitudes are infectious.

They do AMA's on Reddit. Have you ever asked then? BTW, I would never defend their customer service. It's fairly hallow and runs as a corporate bureaucracy for raking in money. However, you will attract more bee's with sugar than vinegar.

Yeah well this isn't something that isn't avoidable. If I have a customer complaining at the next table, it's unavoidable that I have to listen to his moaning. If I stand in line at the supermarket and someone starts a fight with the cashier, it's unavoidable. If someone starts a thread called "Downtime inexcusable" then I take full responsibility when I click on that and start reading, it's kinda ... avoidable. So I'm not too sure if the discomfort is self-induced to at least 50% ;)

If ZoS had the resources, they could maintain alternate live servers (NA-2/EU-2) with opposing downtimes, so players in these types of situations would have a more convenient option to move to.

Oh well, we can still dream...

they used to, eu server would go down 3am bst and be back up in 1-3 hours. NA server would go down after and this gave us shorter downtime at more reasonable hours. I think this changed in 1.7.

This was never about protecting the corporation. The over exaggeration and entitlement is infectious and annoying and my only intent was to express that opinion.

This was not to imply anything :) just a joke to calm everyone down.

By the way, because you said so earlier, I did not even complain in this thread; I was actually neutral and only reacted to *your* bad attitude, which is kind of funny because that's what you critizise here.

Bees are bad. I want bees to go the opposite direction as me. In fact everything that honey attracts is bad. Bees, flies, and bears. Vinegar on the other hand can be combined with oil and put on olive bread.

downtime is necessary of course but this is the only mmorpg i have ever played where the regular downtime, meaning the one with no mayor updates/new content, but just maintenance and maybe a bugfix, takes so long! its been 5 hours now.

i be happier if they did like a daily maintenace update of an hour or so and spend time and resources to try and cut that number down further.. that is what most mmo's do.

5 hours plus i am told by people in IT means they are doing it wrong
