Is ESO the most beautiful MMO game out there?

That just reinforces it for me personally. Environmentally both of those are quite good. If you look close though, both BDO and MB have an insane amount of clipping in that oh so fantastic cloth and hair movement. The characters just do NOTHING for me. I just can't get into the anime thing.

If I wanted to stand on a rooftop, I'd play Assassin's Creed (again)

But you know why there is only limmited amount of clipping in ESO, right?
Cos its world famous "skin-painted outfit& armors" ;D

Or at least it use to be like that when ESO was still sub based >:)

And yes - i would choose cliping every time, over "breton armor glue cape to legs" style >:)

ESO may be pretty, but its animations sure aren't. Seriously, they're pretty dang bad.
Also, Planetside 2 is the first MMO that came to my mind at this topic, though it's not an RPG.

@exeeter702 I will agree I myself was a DPS and TANK in that through different jobs. Yes it is gorgeous but when world bosses were involved the FPS dipped for how many want to be involved. In ESO atleast its better in the FPS during a fight.

ESO looks great. Not alot of better looking MMO's out there except maybe for Black Desert.

ESO is a better game experience.

the most beautiful ?, probably, the most appealing?, definitely yes for me

i kinda hate "realistic" looking game, especially on MMO, most of the time they will do it wrong and in the end (and also with age) it'll look cheap as [snip] , for example is archage

BDO however, i can't stand the shiny-anime-looking character and sometimes out of place costume and stuff

Hey, first of all -theres no need to be angry over this
Second of all -no its not "opinions", its really simple
game A have dated engine, and is not up to max potential cos designers downscale it for console limitation
game B have most up to date engine, with awesome looking fabric, plants and hair, but it needs a MONSTER PC to look like this on player side.

You can argue all you want that game A is better looking, but ITS NOT
    thats just nature of things
ESO is not best looking MMO there is

Also - i in fact REALLY like how ESO look, especially interiors -like Thieves guild and even most Outlaw Refuges -they are absolutly stunning with all those painting and maps on walls, and all those fancy details.
On other hand - i really dont like how hair or fur in general look in ESO (and im exclusive monster race player in MMOs), or how basic mount animation is (where in Black Desert and other linked videos you can see how muscles of mounts work when you force them to run)
    Peace

Ugh on BDO. The overdone, stylized youthfulness of the artwork.

It's one of the things I hate about Asian MMOs. Even when they try to hide it, characters feel more like children regardless of their supposed age.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you based solely on the fact that the question was is ESO the most beautiful MMO, not is ESO the most up to date graphics engine out there.

Game A can have an older engine and still be more physically appealing to the masses. Newest does not always equal the best.

Beauty is ALWAYS based on opinion. ALWAYS. The question was based on Beauty, not technology. So I fixed your statement in bold in your quote.

I forgot how ESO looked on computer. I played on Xbox One and thought it looks good to really good. Then I gave my PC a try again to test out One Tamreil. Oh MY God. I forgot how beautiful ESO looks. Since I never played any other games and I only see screen shots from other MMOs on magazines or online sites like IGN ESO looks so great. I would compare all other games to console ESO graphics. So is this true? Are games like World of Warcraft or what ever other MMO out there on PC, are they as beautiful as ESO or are their graphics like ESO on Xbox One/PS4?

Just curious to know since besides the first Guild Wars, I don't know any other MMO and only played GW for about 3 weeks. While that game is beautiful it's not as beautiful or a bit more cartoony now compared to ESO graphics.

If you're comparing ESO to WoW and GW it's not surprising you're so impressed. Both of those games came out in 2005 and the technology moved on a lot in the 9 years between that and ESO being released. (WoW's art style was also based on the Warcraft RTS series, which started in 1994 and was always quite cartoony.)

But even compared to contemporary games ESO looks good. I personally prefer Guild Wars 2's slightly less realistic style, it's like a 3D painting (you can literally see brush strokes in some places) over ESO's more realistic style, but both are beautiful games.

I've not played any other contemporary MMOs but they certainly hold up to the single player games I've played.

I like the more realistic and dark atmosphere of ESO, especially character creation and mounts, but I swear there are moments when the beauty of GW2's graphics and music combined has made me cry.

As a whole I think ESO is darn near the best. Add some cloth and hair physics ( realtime or canned ) and I would say the best. I walked up to the Vaults of Madness today and thought it was jawdroppingly menacing. Cant say I thought that about another area in a game in a long long time.

yes, they say that beauty is in eye of beholder.
Yet for me all you are saying is "Hey look at that crayon painting, of a house ,cat and little girl, it was done by my 2 years daughter. It is trully way more beautiful then Mona Lisa "

    Is this true?
On subjective level -to proud father -this could indeed be true (that he likes daughter painting more then some old art)
On objective level: how about NO?

And that is where we differ. I don't google rankings to determine what I find most beautiful in a game. Rankings are just a grouping of other people's OPINIONS. I prefer to make my own assessment based on what I find to be beautiful. I find ESO among the best (as I have stated), and to be honest - reading some third person ranking system on google isn't going to change how I feel about it.

If you would like to take other peoples opinions and make them your own, go for it. I'll stick to doing my own thing.

ESO is indeed a beautiful game. However, I have to admit that BDO does rate higher imo. Not only that, but it's graphics seemed more fluid (the trees and grasses had more movement that made it more immersive). That said, I still choose ESO above BDO to play because it is far more enjoyable overall (imo).

Yeah, my biggest issue with ESO is the filler grass, flowers etc. Am I the only person that notices we only ever "see" one side of all the filler plants? If you pan your cam around grass it "spins" around with your cam... Once you see it you cant un-see it... Sorry guys :p

Its what they call a sprite.
3d mesh/models take up a lot of rendering time and graphics memory.
So a way to add lots of detail is to add what they call sprites.
This is basically a 2d image that rotates with the camera plane.
So it always appears as if you are staring at it square on when in fact its just spinning.

Its a trick to save massives amounts of memory over 3d and give massive speed improvements over 3d.
Its also used to remove/hide the typical checkerboard pattern of tiled terrain.

Interesting, and a +1 Insightful for taking the time to explain that. I had heard the term sprites used in reference to games but never understood what it was, thanks @Rune_Relic ! Now, time for some upgraded sprites, shnazz is driving me bonkers :p

Black Desert's engine is way better, but ESO beats it in terms of visual design.

The ground flora are 2D textures that are locked to your camera and if you look down they clip into the ground. It's decent at a glance but if you actually look at them it's horrid. Most of the time textures don't render and other times refuse to even load altogether, ending with you walking into half a house.

ESO has the most beautiful landscapes that I have ever seen in a game. I looked up multiple screenshots of the other games brought up by people in this thread and they don't come close in comparison for me. Granted, I'm not thinking about characters or animations - just the beauty of the scenery. So often do I just stop in the middle of questing because an area is so beautiful that I have to pause and take it in. Sometimes I take a break just to stand somewhere because of a beautiful sunset or how peaceful an area is. It is this more than anything that keeps me in this game.

The characters are a little lacking for sure (the hair is awful), though I do prefer the style of them over the anime style.
