I agree, I'm sure there are many new players who have characters on NA servers while they think they are playing EU, after all the launcher clearly says they are on EU
Yeah, and ZOS are going to fix the game and people then select EU - but it actually work this time - then wonder where their new chars are!
Maybe that's why they pulled the fix, they realised this impact and did not have comms ready so felt it better to get those comms out to prevent another cockup like that.
Maybe they will tell us one day...
Not only that, but what about new players who think they are on EU and have payed for crown items? like mounts and pets and more are they shared on both servers I read somewhere some items are not. if so this really brings a far bigger issue to the problem
It's a very good point. In that case, it's very likely they have realised this and are working out how to deal with that issue. Basically some refund mechanic would be in order and I guess they don't have that in place cross server etc. They will be right to be wary of badly handling that sort of thing, because they'd get a load of chargebacks and all sorts of other mess to deal with.
On the one hand, the longer they leave it the worse it gets, but on the other, dealing with the technical element without people and process in place will lead to even more pain, now we think about these factors.
Have anyone tried setting <default>true</default> for EU server in The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client\Platforms.xml?
P.S. Originally this was found by my colleague and I've seen a forum post here too.

So where is your answer?

Maintenance ~3hrs...
Some cyro group fix, but not all. Still kicks out of group when offline people are in group...
No! EU server login fix

I'm thinking about how many players from the 7 mil announced by ZOS are visiting the forums.
ZOS , THIS ISSUE WILL MAKE YOU LOOSE MANY PLAYERS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T PLAY ON EU BECAUSE MANY OF THEM DON'T KNOW HOW TO CONNECT TO IT!
English is not my native language.
Not sure why it doesn't just check for the Geolocation of the IP you're connecting in on and assign the server that way.
Fully autonomous and easy to implement
This isn't game launch date, it's some major patch implemented and even those not dedicated players know what they downloaded. By downloading it and the entire game they proved they wanted to play the game. I really doubt that anyone who just downloaded ever 40gigs of data plus few more for the patch quits just because of the temporary problem with login. I'm sure they rather try to find solution on google - if weren't earlier on eso forum - and by doing so they find forum threads and some of these actually become Soul Shriven hereWe are informed here and help each other, and are reasonably technically savvy in most cases, but we are the tip of the iceberg as most players do not frequent the forums. This really is like me over-hauling my shop, advertising it to all and sundry then leaving the front door locked and not answering the phone. Sure, the devoted customer might peer around the back and knock on the back window, but most people will go elsewhere..
As for the shop the comparison may not be accurate for the situation. People who already downloaded game put some effort and time and most of them won't give up so easily, at least as I believe. They are not the customers that came to shop with closed doors and went away because no one was inside. They are more like people who already paid for tickets for the movie in cinema, movie is about to start soon but there is suddenly a problem with machine that validates tickets. They must wait for the problem being solved if they want to watch; sure they can start a riot or deal with cinema managers, but they still want to see the movie they paid for and won't just go away because they have tickets which are valid only in this cinema.

I take it this won't be happening?
Today's maintenance mentions a hot fix for Cyrodiil grouping but no mention of EU log in...

Maybe, if they feel like it, they will release a fix for it in the afternoon (Eastern Time) today.

Obviously I am not an expert on ZoS's code, but I imagine it would necessitate a mod to the launcher... which would affect everyone.
Not sure they will want to do that immediately after three hours of downtime fixing Cyrodiil grouping...
Here's hoping that they do the opposite to yesterday and fix more problems than they said they would, rather than claim to have fixed problems they didn't

It's actually only two very small text files that need changing, literally a few hundred bytes. These files are read and closed and therefore not subject to file locks. In theory these files can therefore be updated on the fly. However, we don't know how the patching engine works, and knowing how the launcher loves to download the entire game just for the hell of it, I'd not be surprised to see that happen here!
