I don't know what game you are playing but there is not enough duels going on to effect lag anywhere. The lag would be from one Tamriel and everyone bunched up. Stop trying to blame a couple people for the lag.

He specifically said "adding to the lag". He is aware of the fact that T1 has clumped up people together and that it negatively affects performance, but he feels like the in town duels add another source of lag on top of all that.
Also note that player behavior can vary depending on servers, so he might very well be playing a different game than you are. For example there was a duelling tournament right in Belkarth the day T1 released in EU, and i have seen my fair share of duels in already tight packed cities.
TLDR: Dont be so condescending.
No one is forcing anyone to watch.

Don't tell me how to post. If you don't like dueling go somewhere else. No one is forcing anyone to watch. You can go to any area now in any city. Go find one that no one duels in. We waited forever for duels and now that we have them all the cry babies are out in force. I found about 10 quiet cities already.

I hope it dies down but I agree with OP - every city has people fighting and explosion happening, add a duelling pit in the city and then have the rest of it down outside city limits.
I like dueling in cities, mostly because it adds to the overall atmosphere. Some people fight, others watch, some read, some walk, ride... together with NPCs this makes it more life-like and livable.
That being said, dueling within buildings like banks where there's lot of people in a confined space is a bit over the top.
