Well, if over time the maintenances "stack over time" and give an overall feeling of smoothness, less bugs, lower loading times or whatever it's all good for me.

I think this is the big one that divides us. Forms of maintenence are always needed, the maintenance for ESO does seem very intrusive compared to other games, but the main thing is the lack of comms. Is maintenance just ongoing fire-fighting because ZOS are failing to get a handle on things, or is there a trajectory (however slight) towards better days?

If it's the latter then I think most of us can deal with this, but the lack of comms around maintenance, and the fact it always takes longer than publicised, makes me think it's just more and more fire-fighting.

Also the fact some sub and some don't colours our view on outages. I sign up to ESO Plus in 6 monthly chunks, so I am more likely to have expectations of a higher level of service. I equate the fee I pay to ESO for their sub with what I pay to say Microsoft for Office 365, and there's really no comparison. Despite the fees being the same, Microsoft show how it ought to be done.

BUT...If I was not subbed, I'd probably accept that flaky service was par for the course on a freebie.

I've been playing since beta (with a break) and I've always said that the one thing ZOS could do to improve maintenance is to communicate more effectively. But being as they've always been very bad at this and not improved one bit IME, I don't see that changing!

Really now, we just had two maintenance sessions this week and now there's going to be yet another one, with another one coming in when the patch drops. Such incompetence

I mean, you're welcome to stop playing anytime. No one is keeping you here.

And your brains on a loop and it's just going round and round and you can't stop it and it's just going "if you don't like it go home, if you don't like it go home..."

And my answer to that argument is no.

FF14 has more maintenances than this game does from what I've seen so far. Maintenance is imperative to keep a game running. Just be thankful ESO's maintenances don't run half a day at MINIMUM like FF14.

What are you talking about? FFXIV only has long maintenance during updates. Other then that it's 2-3 hours at most and averages once every 2 and a half weeks.

Edit: I looked up your PSN profile and it says that you played FFXIV for the first time last Wednesday. You cannot play a game for 4 or 5 days and get an accurate picture of it's maintenance schedule, and you know they did a long maintenance because a patch was released recently.

    exposed!!!

Please don't encourage him, I ignored him for a reason. As for what he said there were TWO maintenances, not one, and the first one was the 12+ hour one (cannot say how long the 2nd was, went to bed before it started and saw nothing regarding its duration afterward). I was online when the 2nd one was announced as "emergency" maintenance, yet they waited a few hours to initiate it. At least Zenimax is punctual about their maintenances. Can Square Enix say the same?

Either way, my point is ESO does not have the worst maintenance time periods out there. Be it once or 100 times, I know from all the time I've played ESO on console (cannot speak for before then) I do not recall a 12+ hour maintenance.

An emergency maintenance for FFXIV is done when an unforseen issue arises an expansion update. SE announce all their maintenances and down times in server chat a few hours before so players can finish activities they're engaged in before the servers are shut down. SE is actually willing to fix issues with updates right away rather then waiting months later until the next update. It is not at all common for FFXIV. You just happened to have experienced it during you're short duration with the game.

You simply cannot take a small snap shot sampling of a game and pass that off as knowing all there is to know about it's history. As for the reason you have me blocked it is because I'm not afraid to call you out on your BS.
