agreed, other MMOs I've been in have put off maintance due to this kind of whining, often until the next patch, and thus has allowed minor but important issues to fester waaaay to long (there was for example apparently a item duping explot that lasted 2 weeks or more in SWTOR)

Ehhh this is a tricky one.

ESO has a ridiculous amount of down time compared to many other online games, however I have noticed ESO genrates loads of bugs through out PVP and PVE constantly.

I never found that ESO was a fully completed game. It always felt like it was pushed out rather quickly and so all the bugs that came with it on release day we all had to deal with and wait around to be fixed (that place where you had to kill that dude and you all were waiting in that room for him to appear and he never did anyone remember that?). These bugs got fixed and another 20 replaced it....I have never noticed another game have so much Maintance time..... (Im not a football fan. :) )

On the good side I also work so the maintance does not effect me in the slightest. But some people have different days off than others, diffrent time zoes, and maybe they have extra holidays? who knows.

Another good point : THAT CAT HAT FROM THE STORE I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY PAWS ON IT.

FF14 has more maintenances than this game does from what I've seen so far. Maintenance is imperative to keep a game running. Just be thankful ESO's maintenances don't run half a day at MINIMUM like FF14.

What are you talking about? FFXIV only has long maintenance during updates. Other then that it's 2-3 hours at most and averages once every 2 and a half weeks.

Edit: I looked up your PSN profile and it says that you played FFXIV for the first time last Wednesday. You cannot play a game for 4 or 5 days and get an accurate picture of it's maintenance schedule, and you know they did a long maintenance because a patch was released recently.

    Hey, let's remember terminology.
A "Maintenance" is to "Maintain" something, in this case the servers. The servers HAVE to be maintained and caches emptied, etc. Just because it's a maintenance day does not mean they are "Fixing Bugs"
Patches/Up-Dates- patches are what fix's bugs.
Every time I read a "Down Time" thread there is a assumption that they should "Fix it all". Remember the older MMO's when they were young? There is no over night fix.
Plus, this maintenance is to get the servers ready to handle the massive changes coming Wed with One Tamriel..

One Tamriel is coming soon, more maintenances then usual is a good thing.

You should be thanking them for switching the time to 2 AM...somebody at ZOS has to start work in the wee hours just to appease you people complaining about down times, yet you still complain.

Would be nice if we EU folk also had maintenance starting at 2AM.

No thanks. I wake up at 3 and farm until I go to work =D

I love when people stick up for ZOS . Listen people we would NOT be mad if there was a maintenance every week but we had a SOLID server with no homescreen/loadscreen/cyrodil lag etc.

i guess i just have high standards :)

Theres always gonna be bugs for an always updating game. Maintenance is necessary, imagine what it would be like if we had less of them. Minor bugs not being resolved etc. Maybe they are doing things to prep the upcoming update 12 so it has a smoother arrival.

    right let's make this simple'
    Consoles ( XB 1, PS4 )
fixed hardware and primary OS ... unless modded
one set of software updates for all for each version
    straight forward (normally)
2-3 hours maintainance a week should be more than enough

PC (doesn't matter where you are )
50 thousand different setups, various OS types then add software mods and hardware hacks using none standard parts
infinite software updates ( it will never match your personal system straight on install)
4 to infinity hours (some systems will never work as intended with the game )

And people get upset when it brakes down
    .
they are currently linking all the systems so we the paying customer can play with others across the whole user base

ESO gave warning prior warning that this is going to happen today.
to be honest well done ESO'
but we already know there will be problems before the event happened

    DO NOT EXPECT MIRICLES people
the engineers and tech's are only human, and are taking on a MASSIVE task

this is to improve YOUR enjoyment of the game... NOT their's
and this is within your original purchase, you've not had to pay a penny extra for it (unless you wanted to.. separate issue)

some people need to grow up and shut up.
help the dev's sort the problems we know are going to arise not whine and be unhelpful.

not I don't work for the company or any affiliated supplier so no axe on either side.

I worked in the PC industry for a fair while so can just about relate to the current way things go.

We know nothing of the sort. Maintenance could be anything and is more likely related to hardware replacement/firmware updates than software changes. If there are no patch notes, then chances are its the former rather than the latter.

Lots of people think that video game is just a hobby and has to be considered like this. You have to improve yourself, video games now are marketing product, so ZOS, since he is making profit on his product, has to consider us as clients and not player or just people that enjoy entertainment... If the clients are not satisfy by their service they provide, they to take it in consideration, this is how the business world works...

Very doubtful that the hosts are physical, they are near definitely VMs provided by the hosting partner (I cannot remember who this is, someone did post their details in another thread, suffice to say their datacentres are virtualised as has been the norm for many years). And whilst the hosts will need updating, the hosting provider will simply live migrate the whole lot over to other nodes and perform a rolling update so there would be no outage at the server level for firmware updates etc, and this would all be baked into an SLA.

It's very likely prep for the 1T patch. It's quite a large patch and there is no doubt some base-lining as part of the pre-reqs.

Whenever maintenance requires an outage in 2016, you can be sure it's because of a lack of redunandancy in the app or data layer, never the backend.

I say all these maintainances are all in preperation for One Tamriel. ZOS most likely wants the huge patch to go on smoothly, with as few issues as possible. Of course there will be bugs, but I'm sure this is all for the better.

I really dont care about maintenance, but atleast let me know when it will be up again. Last week you gave a great notification it would be about 8 hours. But now there is no indication whatsoever. We're almost 3 hours into maintenance, but we dont know when it's done.

So then are you suggesting that the emergency outages and high levels of maintenance outside of major version upgrades are not related to datacentre issues, but are instead related to the application/data. Which is a under the control of Zenimax and is related to the quality of the games coding itself.

If anything, I find that even more disturbing.

    Okay.

I didn't tell anyone to do anything. I said they were welcome to. The offer of an option is not a command. People are indeed entitled to an opinion, however in a proper society they are not entitled to voicing an opinion that is rigged with insults and expect to remain free from the consequences. A civil, constructive opinion is a respectable one. A negative, insulting opinion, and you will receive opposition. On top of it all, if the OP truly does feel that put off by the state of this service, the OP is truly in fact welcome to no longer take part in it and remove it from their life so it no longer affects them in such a way. It's very simple and logical.

And also, I'm not a Troll. I've never been a Troll. I hate Trolls.
