So with One Tamriel drawing near a new chapter in The Elder Scrolls Online is going to open. But before it does, where does TESO stand in your list of preferred MMOs to date? Feel free to share what you think TESO has or doesn't have that other games do that either make TESO better or worse in that regard.

P.S. This thread is about TESO and how much people prefer it over other games, so let's keep it that way and not get too off track discussing other games.

It's my only MMO I've ever played.

Besides Planetside 2, but that doesn't really count, seeing as it's a Capture the Flag FPS.

In a gaming sense they were kinda primitive, what with like 8-bit and all. I misread an article about the internet though so my bad on that part of what I said before.

No lol I'm an 80s baby myself and I can remember what it was like back then, even if vaguely. The internet wasn't a thing when I was 4 (in fact computers in general were pretty newish back then), that much I know, and according to google the worldwide web wasn't invented as we know it now until 1990.

    have you heard of janet?

    the internet existed before www

oh... and computers had been around since the 1940's

Ok folks, the topic here is where ESO places in your favorite MMO list, not the birth of online gaming, let's get back on track.
Though, if you'd like to learn a bit about the birth of online gaming, this article is pretty interesting.

How can an MMO be 'milked'? Isn't the whole point of an MMO to last 10 years+?

Every MMO does all it can to keep going. I mean look at WoW and the lengths it goes to...

Also that video lost credibility right from the get-go. He spouted nothing but nonsense that was not backed up at all by anything whatsoever. In other words, he doesn't know what TESO actually is.

A MMO yeah has to live 10+ years if they want to make a profit I agree but the fact that let's compare ESO to WOW; they release major content they developed every few years and have a cotume shop interweved. the dlc's that Zenimax release's all were made in the first year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Jk7LrLgRfg

And the fact they have to sell them individually over a course of 4+ years of content that should of came out year oneish-twoish time frame is ridiculous. that's Not surviving that is Milking any and all content that is left over in there data center's I wouldn't be surprised they would bundle this game with the next Elder scrolls game which is a card game there pulling a Star Wars galaxy move.

ESO is the best. Even if I consider all the nostalgia from EQ back in the day.

I admit I haven't played many MMOs, but that's because most of them don't appeal to me at all.

I probably prefer Guild Wars 2, but they're very different games in a lot of ways so it's hard to compare them. But I really enjoy ESO and although there are things I think could be better it's still one of my favourite games.

(Edit: And for the record I always think there's things games could do better. Often not because it's designed badly but because it's not tailored to my personal preferences. Since I learned a long time ago I do not have the skills to make one myself or the patience to learn I think it's safe to assume I'll never get my perfect game.)

What makes you think ESO has ALL their DLCs already made? Sure they may have STARTED them before they release them if anything but they definitely don't have it all just sitting on the sidelines waiting to be released. If you wanna call any game milking players though then that would be the P2W games. THAT is milking players. I should know, I've seen a good few that rely heavily on spending real money to get top tier stuff.

First one I've ever played and only one I've played. Simply put, I bought into it purely because it had TES stamped on it. Wouldn't have bothered otherwise, but I've enjoyed it a lot and probably my most played game over the last year or 2. Due to my lack of interest and knowledge regarding MMO's, I always assumed they were mostly made up of PvP and that simply didn't appeal to me at all. How wrong i was. Since, I've enjoy a little PvP here n there.

So far I've played TESO, Archage, Defiance, and a smidgen of Planetside. Of all those games, I have to admit ESO has the best lore and the best combat.

Are there bugs? Yes. Are there annoying limitations? Sure. But for the 60$ I spent in early summer 2014 (plus consistent sub since) I don't know of any other game on the market that could have kept my interest.

    Rock on TESO.
