Maintenance on 9/28 @ 2am EDT - All Megaservers

While we appreciate the heads up, I'm just curious. Why on earth does it take 8 hours to for "datacenter infrastructure changes"?
That statement implies that some cabling might be changed and maybe a switchport turned up. I get that a 4 hour time window for a change to occur is what was requested but is there really a need for another 4 hour window on top just for someone to verify everything is good?
The actual change typically takes 2-3 hours depending on "unforseen complications" & the verification takes all of 15-20 minutes. I have worked on this side of the fence so it just seems if all goes well things can be online sooner?

I guess what I'm asking is more of a definition of "datacenter infrastructure changes". It's a vague statement that implies specifically small hardware changes & possibly a configuration change or 2.

I guess it's just wishful thinking on my end because I know it won't get a response but it could be a good pitch if their announcements were like: "Extending our megaserver by adding 2 new servers into the cluster" or " upgrading from 1gig to 10gig network backbone" or even "migrating database to a separate server for increased performance" or "performing weekly/bi-weekly data backup"...

they have to make sure the new duct tape holds and the hampsters are settling into the servers, kind of like settling fish into fishtanks in their plastic bag to climatise them, i suspect theres a similar technique for server hampsters.

yesterday when i last checked there wasnt any anouncements of any maintenance,and thats not even 12 hours ago,
and when i get up this morning (all of a sudden) there is a maintenance..

datacentre infrastructure could be anything from a switch to the whole rig

No, I checked on Sunday (as I always do, I run a trade guild so always check maintenance times to determine whether there is a conflict with trader switchover) and on Sunday it clearly said that there would be no maintenance on Monday, but there would be maintenance Wednesday.

Kinda annoying that EU and PTS is offline at the same time, usually when live is offline you go to pts and do alot of testing etc, but cant do that now:(

Indeed,
thats the one and only reason i installed that extra 40 Gb,
now i am doubting if that was the right decision cause i hardly ever played PTS...

I think there originally was a store and account maintenance announced for today, but it doesn't really matter anyway, does it? We'll life.

I think they are doing some backend work.

Get used to servers being down at the same time though, after update 12 instead of having separate installs for PC NA and EU, they will run from the same install and you choose the server from the login screen, rather than the launcher.

In a era where "high availability" and 99.99% uptime are minimums, ZOS goes for 8 hour downtime?
I would be fired on the spot. My boss worries with the 10s it takes for a failover IP to take over....

ZOS really needs to get their *** together.

While people complain about getting their servers worked on, I say take your time in getting work done properly. I hope these updates help boost the servers' power and ability to handle so many players.

Sounds like changes being made to support One Tamriel or hopefully replacing that problrm hardware that has been causing all those technical issues I worked as an Enterprise Administrator and even the most simple of things can turn into a nightmare

Because like i mentioned earlier when i checked yesterday at 23:00 Amsterdam Time there wasnt any anouncement that the EU/NA servers would get maintenance.PTS i dont know,but thats another anoying thing,i installed PTS for the one and only reason that i can play it when EU server goes down.

The anouncement Gina made about the maintenance was about 6 hours in front of the actual maintenance itself,
thats where i criticise them,they could anounce this much earlier in advance of the maintenance.

I only get to play once a week, so yes this does affect me but I'm fine with it. I really behind on Champ Points so not like I'm a good player anymore. Can't get group invites since I don't have 531CP and PVP is well I can still be competitive but not on par if that makes any sense.

There was a message across the top of the page on the forums since as early as late as last week. Though you are correct in that they didn't actually post anything stating what the maint was about til just a few hours before it began.

Yep, I heard about it from guildies last week too.

Relax ppl, OT will be the biggest patch to the game since console release and I imagine there's quite a bit involved.
