The usual DPS test is Bloodspawn, still in vet Spindleclutch, in which case you need to divide his total health by the time required to kill him to get your approximate DPS, but you'll need a healer and a tank. They must not help the DPS further than by taunting / keeping you alive, so no SPC procs from the healer either.
That said, your absolute theorycrafting resource is Sorcerer's Arithmagic, since you can, for instance, calculate your average damage:
Theorycrafting is a strong tool if done right. Sadly, part of it relies on data collected (DPS parses in this case), so you'l have to trust parses done on PC.

I have never understood a DPS test like this. I understand the math behind how it works, and I can perhaps get that you would ban ultimates from the one doing the test, but no SPC? no Warhorn from your support? Whats the point. If you care enough about your DPS to go through this sort of test, you should do it in a proper raid setting. Things scale differently depending on your environment. If you are going to test, you might as well test with the buffs you expect to have when it matters. Just my 2 cents...
Edit: I suppose if you really care, you would probably do it both ways for a baseline.
No we dont. We dont get a combat log to review and find out that we need to work on this dot or that dot. Its silly. Mmo my ass

There certainly helpful and are present in a lot of modern mmo's
The blood spawn test is flawed; it's physical and magic resistances are not equal, it lasts under 1min, it is completely stationary. Gear reflecting these obvious holes can be used to create unrealistic dps one can not maintain in raid environments or even other dungeon boss fights. Please take this "test" with a grain of salt. The reality is that console users need and optional dps meter. And everyone needs a dummy to experiment with rotations.

Yes this exactly, I'm on PS4 and have been asked by some people have I done a bloodspawn test when trying to get into vet trials. My response to this is what good will it do?
The bloodspawn stands there and you beat seven shades out of him.
No mechanics to deal with, no attacks to dodge or block and the fight is over in less than 45 seconds.
How does this prepare anyone for a vet trial?
