Don't believe chat links, you can type in modified item codes to make all sorts of silly stuff. I've never once heard of someone getting a maelstrom weapon on normal mode.

I heard that someone possibly edited the item link to make it blue - there is a thread that discussed it somewhere. Welcome to the joys of text chat, where you can create all kinds of bogus item links to troll your friends - or enemies!
