Yeah, all MMOs have this. Sadly the way they are causes people to become greedy, be it harvesting or grinding mobs. I wish I could provide you with a solution, but I fear there is none except to try and ignore their behaviour and not let it get to you.

    Hi! :-)

Just wanted to ventilate my frustration here about the behaviour of some players. When I gather mats they are there, trying to get as quick as possible to the ore, flowers or other mats which I was on my way to. Gathering mats at the Gold Coast is very frustrating because of the behaviour of many other players. Even when they see I am on my way to get ore, they sprint so they can reach it before me. When I see another player is on her/his way towards ore or flowerd or wood I back up to give the other space to take it. Also gathering alchemy reagents in The Hollow City show that kind of egocentric players. And all that behaviour in spite of that there is anough for all of us!
I have been in many other games and there are `the egocentric players` also present.

Definition on Wikipedia of an egocentric: A person who is egocentric believes they are the center of attention, like a narcissist, but does not receive gratification by one's own admiration.

So I just decided that I shall only gather mats for crafting during the night when it is quiet, it really blows my day to be confronted with this kind of childish players.

While I wouldn't begin to discuss RL age on here what your describing is how the vast majority of adults act, and for good reason. Those that arent ambitious tend to get left behind, more so then ever in today's work force and certainly here where every good guild has such competitive requirements to gain entrance to and stay in.

If you want to say let someone cross the street when its not "technically" time (and assuming you have no cars behind you) then hey good on you, but that behavior doesn't then automatically transcend into saying "hey I dont need that promotion and pay raise you go ahead and take it". I for instance wouldn't give up my spot on a raiding team because Pug Force One decided to take five hours in ICP and "felt" I was elitist for leaving. The world (and by reflection games) revolve around those that place themselves first, and as long as your being reasonably civil and not harming anyone I don't see a problem with that.
Wow! I can say that I haven't ever been "ambitions" - just loved what I did and in large part because of that, been good at it! And as such was successful enough to ease into "semi-retirement" (I love what I do so I still take some jobs even though I don't need the income) in my mid 40's. Ambition is certainly not the only way to succeed - and I'd argue not the best way. I certainly never tried to push anyone else down or aside, and actively took my time to pull others up for the benefit of all. And, further, to make this statement in regard to node farming? Really?

The OPs problem isn't node farming, node farming is just how its being displayed because thats the playstyle. With less then half of all college grads getting a job strictly in there degree field in the first year out of college I respectfully disagree about ambition not being relevant.

Besides, there is a difference in being better then someone and striving to beat them and "pushing anyone down". Unless of course you look at any type of competitive game-play as us vs them then I suppose in every instance its an "us vs them".
    Ambitious:
"1. an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment"

    Better:
" 1. of superior quality or excellence"

The two are not in any way synonymous. Yet you present "ambitous" as "better", and not as striving for an ends. Ambition simply isn't what you say it is. And regardless of if your stated statistic of college grads is true or not, it says nothing about the absolute success of those that are "ambitious" vs that those who do what they do because they love it. In my experience, on average, the ambitious ones aren't the ones that "make it" - the ones who do the job for the job itself and not some ends are those that actually succeed. I've been involved in the hiring of lots of people, and I can tell you that "ambition" has never been a positive attribute named by anyone on any hiring team I've been involved with. In large, it is how good the person currently is, how well they can work with others on the team, and what their prospect for growth within the organization is (skill improvement and likelihood of staying with the group vs flipping for a position elsewhere).

I do tend to associate ambitious with better, but then you know the reason why that is from my earlier posts. Trying to say otherwise (while putting on quite the show) isn't something I believe. I cant say that I disagree with the principle statement of "do what you love and you will be god at it" but then to proclaim ambition / love of work is somehow an "or" statement instead of an if/then statement is simply not true. Sure most people don't walk into an interview and proclaim "I am ambitious" but if nobody had ambition then nothing would ever move forward as there would never be any reward (perspective) to move to.

So put simply, the age of a "company man" that your talking about is largely archaic and while you (as a single company) probably see the best applicants from someone staying in that company it doesn't necessarily mean those other employees moving on arent as good/better. I find its a rare man that leaves a job for a lesser job so in theory anyone leaving (under good terms) is doing so because his ambition drives him forward to a better job your company simply could not provide him.

In any sense we've digressed a bit from the topic, but I can see your point of view (as a company man) and can understand your mindset as that relates to ESO. To not divulge too much about me in the last ten years I've quadrupled my starting paycheck because my ambition kept me moving forward across companies and even states should the offer be there, which is why we are seeing two very different sides of the same coin.

When I see a node that myself and another are going for I skip that one and go for the next. They will be too busy on that node to mess up the next one. Then I run to the next (or streak or ride my wolf), typically im already ahead in distance and full access to the rest of the nodes.

    This times thousand!!
Enough of this ellbow mentality, don't take away every piece of candy only because "you beat the other player". This childish selfishness isn't respectful or anything. It just shows your immaturity.

Same could be said about those "LFM 531+ for vet dungeons" people or the "link achievement for nMoL"...

If I and another player "strive to attain" the same node and I get it first well in that particular situation wouldnt i momentarily be better than that player?

Every player see others with at least half second delay. So if you are racing side-by-side it is YOU who is trying to steal the node. The other player is actually already picking it, and wonders why you still try to grab it.

Hi op! Just had one of those, I went to open a chest but a mob starts to attack me. One player steals the chest in the meanwhile.

I don't really care about the chest, but the attitude stuns me. People like you and I need to understand that are players that were raised without much education. And that's it. Move along, follow your principles and be happy. Those kids must have it really difficult if the parents didn't even cover the basics.

When someone is fighting an enemy next to a node that they had to fight to get the node, I leave them be, it's a straight up *** move to take it from someone who got there first and earned that node. Besides that though it's all about who got there first, if you snooze you lose and you can't justifiably blame others for you not being fast enough to get there first. They need the mats too and farming mats is boring as hell so people are focused on just getting it done and moving on to playing the game, they're not doing it to be mean they're just doing it so it's done as fast as possible and they can make the stuff they need to play.

It always bugged me, too, but that's what happens when many are competing for a limited resource. I don't get mad unless they let me fight the critter guarding said resource while they steal it from under my otherwise occupied nose. Then I'm steamed but I leave chat off at all times and so can remain a lady about it. ;) I long since decided that resource runs should be made during off peak hours to maximize my returns and minimize my irritation with the way things are. I'm not missing the point. Half the time I farm mats I'm already looking at the one I'm headed to next. I'd say 80% of the time I am oblivious of other people around me...so how could you not see that I'm farming with keen eye on and have the node spawns memorized...obviously I'm headed to that flower next.

If I see someone go for a mat but get attacked by something I'll usually help them kill the mob then be on my way (leaving them the mat, which again, did not even belong to them).

Is it annoying if somewhere gets there before me? Sure, I guess...but it's a video game. So this is where you are missing our point: WHY do you feel like these mats belong to you and should just be given to you/everyone should let you walk over there and take it? That is pure entitlement, sorry.

How do you know I'm even paying attention to you let alone know what your intentions are? When I farm I focus on the task at hand and its harvesting as many nodes as possible. I have memorized all node locations. When the node is gone or some else is in the node harvesting it I move to the next node. Since I take a predetermined path that I personally mapped out I could argue that I'm headed for all of them.
