Egocentric behaviour

Hi! :-)

Just wanted to ventilate my frustration here about the behaviour of some players. When I gather mats they are there, trying to get as quick as possible to the ore, flowers or other mats which I was on my way to. Gathering mats at the Gold Coast is very frustrating because of the behaviour of many other players. Even when they see I am on my way to get ore, they sprint so they can reach it before me. When I see another player is on her/his way towards ore or flowerd or wood I back up to give the other space to take it. Also gathering alchemy reagents in The Hollow City show that kind of egocentric players. And all that behaviour in spite of that there is anough for all of us!
I have been in many other games and there are `the egocentric players` also present.

Definition on Wikipedia of an egocentric: A person who is egocentric believes they are the center of attention, like a narcissist, but does not receive gratification by one's own admiration.

So I just decided that I shall only gather mats for crafting during the night when it is quiet, it really blows my day to be confronted with this kind of childish players.

This type of behavior has been present in every online game I've ever played, it used to bother me but eventually I just started moving on. People are going to be dinks and you just be a better person and go find another node.

I wish I could say that things will get better but with the addition of One Tamriel with all 3 factions in the same zones, I'm afraid it will only get worse.

If they beat you to it, wouldn't they have already been on the way to it as well? Ipso facto probably placing the same characteristics on you. Ah, I suppose it's a matter of perspective. Don't take it personally.

It is not that they think they are center of attention but rather the mats are a first come first serve basis. So it pays to beat the next person to the mat.

It is all about getting as much as you can as quick as you can.

Like in another game I played where most items come from a certain area with random bosses. If you see someone fighting a boss and think you can get the kill then you do. Not because you think you are center of universe but because like most things in most games it is who gets there first or who can do the most damage the quickest

    Hi there @Alhatariel

I use the same strategy you do (if I need materials I try to get them at awkward hours so less peole will be around, competing for the same resource). Sometimes it's really inconvenient, but it's the only way.

Try not taking it personally... maybe the other person only has 30 minutes to try gathering ore for a new sword? Surely not all are farming just for a quick profit on the guild stores

For flowers, leave Coldharbour for the Alik'r Desert - there's a surprising number of overlooked nodes there.

The WB reset group in wrothgar doesn't like me anymore because I completed objectives ahead of them to avoid being stuck trying wait for them to respawn.

Funny thing is I can duo most of the bosses in wrothgar, they just stood there that first night watching me and some random guy duo the boss then all of them come in at the last second frantically trying to get enough DPS to get the WB claim.

Don't blame the players, blame the game. Bunch of jerks those reset groupers are.

It's harsh to call players who are also farming materials egocentric. They could actually turn that definition on you by saying you are claiming entitlement to materials you have only seen, and are upset if you do not receive them - putting the attention on yourself for materials you did not gather.

If you're going at a normal run toward a node, and another player sees you, notices what you're going toward and sprints, there's a good chance they will get to it first if you don't sprint yourself. A lot of the times even if it's close to a draw somehow they still get it due to who ever pressed Interact first and or who's Interact command actually went through. I've been cheated out of quite a few materials that way.

Keep in mind that perspective goes both ways. You are their direct competition for resources, and they are yours.

Many people farm to make money. It is their eso "business" and in order to maximize profits, they need to be as efficient as possible. Most have a set route for gathering resources, and anyone coming in and disturbing that route can lead to efficiently drops.

I am not saying it isn't really a pain. It is. But recognize that their play time is just as valuable as yours, so if they keep beating you to resource nodes, either get faster and beat them, or submit to the fact that you will need to either go somewhere else, or simply take longer to gather your materials.

They're doing the same thing yiur doing. It certainly is not egocentric behavior as the detention you provided does not fit. It's merely a race to get to the matts first when more than one are harvesting.

The mere fact that your posting about this in here may be more a sense of entitlement, that you feel entitled to the matts.

The definition of entitlement from Merriam-Webster is: the condition of having a right to have, do, or get something

Questing with my husband, on my screen it looked like he was rushing in to "steal" nodes from me... But on his screen he was already in front of my character. (For some reason his Xbox has a faster connection than mine, even though they are both hardwired.)

When I see a node that myself and another are going for I skip that one and go for the next. They will be too busy on that node to mess up the next one. Then I run to the next (or streak or ride my wolf), typically im already ahead in distance and full access to the rest of the nodes.

Two people run to a node. If you get there first, it's ok. If they get there first, they are a horrible person? It's entirely possible they are not even looking at you as a player. Don't assume they even see you. They may just be running to the same node you are and are faster.

I defer when I see someone else going for a node - there really are plenty of them. And I usually switch up my direction if I notice that someone is farming the same way. However, sometimes I don't notice them because of obstructions or whatnot, and because I often streak in, it may make it seem like I am trying to ninja the node from them even when I'm not. I suspect stuff like that happens to others as well.

Seriously tho, I've seen server player lag make the foot race to the nodes not even the deciding factor :(
