If ZOS ever increases the gear to CP180 from CP160, will there be a way of increasing our previously obtained gear to CP180? Because if history repeats itself, VDSA and VMA will only offer CP160 weapons as rewards — and honestly...? I love my weapons. I worked hard for them, and I'm worried that they'll mean nothing if crafted CP180 weapons will outclass them.

Not to mention, if ZOS does in fact allow these places to drop CP180 gear? It is going to be extremely disheartening to have to grind again for sharpened weapons. :(

Typically this happens throughout all MMORPGs, as they expand so must you. I remember in Everquest 2, it took me 3 months roughly just to get a part of my [Mythical] weapon, and then 6 months more just to complete it. Then they pushed out two more Expansion packs (about 1 a year) and suddenly my Mythical's only purpose was to be added to my 'Wall of Weapons' that I collected for my in-game house. Sh-t happens.

[SNIP] happens because idiots put up with it.

We need a new gear cap? Really? Is that what people say when they have "nothing left to do"? You'll all be back every 3 months for the new DLC unless you're a hardcore PVP'er, in which case, it doesn't apply to you. Or because you've just had enough of the game anyway.

The only reason you need to keep playing a game is because you enjoy the actual gameplay elements. Anyone old enough...or just old :P...will remember Original Neverwinter Nights. A game that people are STILL playing. I played it for 12 years, well after Bioware left it for dead, and the server is still going. There are multiple servers still going. The game only ever had 1 level increase, from 20-40.

I love EVERYTHING about this post! :) For my part, I luv the upcoming ONE TAMRIEL change... It gives me a chance to reclaim all of the quests I had abandoned/leveled out of.

You might be an old fart like me though... Kids don't play games for fun or to experience the game, they play to grind. Apparently it's no sposta be fun.

Just to add to the discussion, the only reason they would force a gear level increase is to clean some gold from the economy, so any wishes for tokens is a pipe dream.

I agree this would be a bad move for at least a year. I thought they said they were bumping gear up to 180 next update or the update after that? Can anyone corroborate or debunk this rumor? Appreciate it guys! Happy FRYDAY!

It's been a year since the last level increase.

Didn't read all 5 pages but I'm working under the assumption that the gear cap material count will look something like this.

    CP 150: 15 rubedite
    CP 160: 150 rubedite
    CP 170: 1500 megasupercrazyrocks
    CP 180: Eleventy Billion megasupercrazyrocks

+10 for crafting able to upgrade gear levels.

Also give crafting the ability to re-style and re-trait and all will be right with the Nirn.

EDIT: Could even make it a system where you have to collect rare drops from dungeons to do it.

And those Megasupercrazy rocks only have a chance to drop off the last boss in the latest DLC. Don't forget that part of the moral hazard.

    It happens in every MMO.

No it doesn't... previous MMO I played, level cap was 50.. and 15 years later it is still level 50.

Probably you have been playing a home made noddle game but not an MMORPG.

MMORPG normally span 10-15 years and combat gear progression is important for the game progress or else experienced players will start leaving..

Well i dont know why you are so unhappy if the do that i mean just look at WoW you spend most of your time at end game farm for best until next expansion come and booom the new expansion hit and 1 st green reward item is 10 time better the your best raid gear and you have start all over again and if you dont know this it happen everytime a new expansion hit WoW so why should ZoS not use same "winning" thing in ESO?

I personal dont like farm for better gear for honest a game that is more focus on gear then gameplay is not a good game in my eyes for at the end people will basically stop play with other and just focus on get best gear. I honest hope the wont add more CP gear but the way we lvl up our CP the need to add bigger mobs for us so i guess it will happen at sometime.

Because this is an Elderscrolls game and shouldn't copy a game made twelve years ago.

The only difference between the current state and a release of CP180 stuff is that you can actually craft appropriate stuff again.

Every patch, the newly released sets are so much stronger than what was available before that you have to grind out everything anyways.

Effectively, they raise item level every single update. Players just don't notice it as they don't change min level required.

So this whole post is basically only about wanting to retain value of vMSA weapons, and on this point my opinion is that their advantage is simply too large. Nerf master/maelstrom weapons.

Hard to understand why people would like to quit just because of level increase. The explanation regarding high cost of upgrading gears is enough? That seems like not too much love into game :).
Any of such changes isn't easy but it pushes the game forward with new content. Otherwise game starts to bore in time.
For me CP180 level would be a desired change. Even if I'd have to deconstruct all my gears on all 8 characters and make new sets from scratch :).

They could release a whole new area, where it doesn't scale. Would become some kind of end game content, where only 160 could venture. Trials and dungeons would require u to be at least 160 and the grind for gear would suck.
Yeah I agree, I feel like an elitist saying it, but I hate running vet dungeons and getting cp 10 players. Now if get a group and the players aren't at least cp 300 I leave, I'll wait 15 minutes lol. That being said just bc someone is a high cp it doesn't mean they are good, but odds are they're pretty good

This may be true for those who do group and end game content, but what about solo players?!? Our 'stronger' gear comes from crafted sets... and I have yet to see any crafted set that is an improvement over the old standard sets. Further, at CP160 and CP cap, you don't even NEED new sets to succeed in solo content... so what's the point? At least a raise in level would be a reason to craft new set gear with hopefully new mats.

As to people that play 'because they enjoy the content (not leveling)'... that's great... but I play to "level"... I play to continually improve my character... and once I reach a road-block where my character ceases progression, I find no purpose in playing anymore. Isn't that the same in real life? People always complain how their lives are stuck in a rut, same job for years, no progression in their lives... while other people constantly change some aspect of their life so they are always moving forward, always progressing, and don't wind up 'stuck in a rut' and always miserable about it.

I don't like gear chase in any mmo. I just want to PvP or do dungeons instead of chasing gear all the time. I understand some people want it, but I rather play for fun instead of grind.

The thng is, whats fun to you, isnt fun to others. The only way they can please everyone is by having vertical AND horizontal progression. And they can only do that with Gear level increases AND CP cap increases. Having just one or the other will alienate groups of players and the game will lose players.

Best example is SWTOR. They removed pretty much ALL vertical and horizontal progression and now all you have left is carebears who struggle with bosses so easy that someone that had a labotomy could clear the areas.

Having the gear cap increase is no different from them adding a new set to craft in terms of using up crafting mats. People will have to use their mats to craft the set and upgrade it to gold. So I don't understand why it matters so much that the gear cap would increase.

So a higher cap would have a different combination of perks?

No I am saying if they increased the cap to 180 you would have to use your mats to craft a new set of gear. If they added a new set at 160 that you really wanted to use then you would still have to use your mats to craft a new set of gear. So increasing the cap really isn't gonna make a difference in terms of crafting. Now grinding for gear is a whole different story.

Except if you have had your gear at max for a while, you SHOULD already have the mats saved up to make new gear. Unless you sold everything, in which case that isnt the devs fault.

You will still have the tempering alloys, tanins and all upgrade material saved up. They wont suddenly have new ones of those. And with crafting bags, they def should not be an issue. If you dont have those and are not a sub, you should not really be surprised that there are limitations.

That's exactly what I was saying: crafting is again falling behind because we can't craft viper or red mountain or silks or any other of the new BiS sets. Thing is, pvp and pve drop sets are improving with every patch. Crafteds don't.

You have TBS and, to a certain extent, Kagrenac's, because they offer unique bonuses. Hunding's is falling behind the curve, same as Julianos. Tanking has Tava for DKs, again due to the unique bonus.

Maybe eternal hunt for the troll factor. Just my opinion of course.

Tl/dr: we have level increase already, with every update. Just not for crafted stuff.
