I'm Worried About CP180 Gear

Having the gear cap increase is no different from them adding a new set to craft in terms of using up crafting mats. People will have to use their mats to craft the set and upgrade it to gold. So I don't understand why it matters so much that the gear cap would increase.

So a higher cap would have a different combination of perks?

No I am saying if they increased the cap to 180 you would have to use your mats to craft a new set of gear. If they added a new set at 160 that you really wanted to use then you would still have to use your mats to craft a new set of gear. So increasing the cap really isn't gonna make a difference in terms of crafting. Now grinding for gear is a whole different story.

You said it's no different, but choosing a new set of perks seems like a big difference.

On my main character, I have been proudly wearing the one and only gold set of armor and weapons I have ever needed to acquire since Imperial City first launched. I've acquired other sets for various purposes but left them purple. Only recently did I gold out another set for an alt.... Other than that I've been diligently hoarding gold materials for the inevitable gear increase.

    1) don't get distracted by the dozens of new options that keep coming out. What you have probably works
    2) save your gold mats
    3) enjoy the game

If ZOS ever increases the gear to CP180 from CP160, will there be a way of increasing our previously obtained gear to CP180? Because if history repeats itself, VDSA and VMA will only offer CP160 weapons as rewards — and honestly...? I love my weapons. I worked hard for them, and I'm worried that they'll mean nothing if crafted CP180 weapons will outclass them.

Not to mention, if ZOS does in fact allow these places to drop CP180 gear? It is going to be extremely disheartening to have to grind again for sharpened weapons. :(

Typically this happens throughout all MMORPGs, as they expand so must you. I remember in Everquest 2, it took me 3 months roughly just to get a part of my [Mythical] weapon, and then 6 months more just to complete it. Then they pushed out two more Expansion packs (about 1 a year) and suddenly my Mythical's only purpose was to be added to my 'Wall of Weapons' that I collected for my in-game house. Sh-t happens.

What MMO doesn't have gear progression?

WoW just came out with Legion and all the stuff I farmed for is going to be weaker than the quest drops. Its always been this way. Now thankfully they are not raising it with every single DLC, that would feel terrible. But it going to happen eventually with new content.

I'm sensing an undertone of elitism coming from players who have no reason to want higher level gear other than for one thing alone... They want to force every player online to have to spend for new mats. That's all. I mean, really? What other argument has been given? They want the game to get easier? Cause these are likely the same people who will grind to be the first to have the new levels so they can feel special, then complain that the game is too easy. They can't have fun without a pointless repetitive tasks, and as the saying goes, 'Mysery loves company'. Or this is a PvP thing where they are sick of being equal, and want to push players down to a lower level so they can be one of the few with max level gold stats until everyone catches up and they are screaming for another increase. 'Whah! Everyone has gold gear! I want to feel special and have better stats! Whah!'

Personally, I'm hoping by the time the new material(180) are out they will have eliminated gear levels and have gear base off the level you are while wearing and your associated armor/weapon levels instead. And which materials used only effect how the gear looks(which tier of the motif is used).

That means people could go scale everything to level 10 and get best items for their max level character.

While this would not really matter all that much to me, I have a feeling a lot of people would be mad.

I would be extremely dissapointed if they increase CP cap on gear on the next few months, making all the new sets comming with One Tamriel obsolete? It's rather pointless. Any increase should be well after june/july next year, if at all.

Increasing CP cap on gear is rather pointless by itself on a game that will be fully scaled. There's simply no point in increasing the cap. I think the One Tamriel approach is much better and smarter: There's still progression because you want the newest gear, not because your gear was made obsolete but rather because new gear adds interesting new features and bonuses you want.

I want to "grind" new cool sets / weapons, not getting the same old set / weapon with a higher number in it. That's NOT progression...

If they do raise it someday AND keep the CP system the way it currently is, I would hope and pray that they would go much higher than from 160 to 180. I'm thinking at least CP 240 for the next level of gear.

You can really just steamroll CP. I'm picking up 3-4 CP per day in 2 hours just doing Cadwell's Silver quests. - and I am a complete and utter half ass. I have to think that someone taking it seriously is grinding dozens of points a day.

a gear upgrade from 160 to 180 the way the system is right now just seems trivial to me.

I just think they should keep adding new stuff at the same level as what we have now, give people the option to stick with what they've got or get the new gear. As long as it's balanced with the old gear then it would just add things to the game and not take anything away from it or the players. I understand MMO's work with gear level increases, but just because that's how everyone else did it doesn't mean that's how ZOS needs to do it. They can do whatever they want to as long as it works and keeps people playing, and frankly it takes way too much effort to get and upgrade the gear in this game for them to go the traditional route with regular upgrades in gear level.

At the very least they need to wait a year minumim between increases (or go the other direction and have regular increases but make it profoundly easier to acquire all gear, like 10 times increased drop rate for everything and the ability to change traits on an item), and at best I think they should choose a novel approach and leave the gear levels as they are. I won't necessarily quit if they increase it, certainly not if there's a reasonable path to upgrading your current gear, but it would definitely put me off playing if so much of my effort were invalidated by my gear becoming obsolete.

Agreed, the day they increase gear cap to180 ill probably quit the game, because that means they will increase it again and again and again and the grind will never, ever stop.

Feel the same way... I'd rather have new gear forever be CP160 but just provide other effects / boni.. like now with the new monster sets being added. At least that doesn't immediately absoletes your existing gear, so you can continue playing (PvP) and take time to try the new sets.

Ever increasing levels .. is the WORST feature studios copy from WoW. Terrible, just terrible!

Again, I would ask those who keep saying "well that's how MMOs work...WoW has done it this way for years..." as it pertains to a gear level increase, why does that mean ESO has to follow a 10+ year old MMO model?

Lol I hope all of you realize that if the gear level is raised to cp180 and you go out and farm the exact same pieces you have right now and gold them out that any sort of perceived power increase you gain is negated by an increase in boss / mob stats right? Your LITERALLY wanting to grind and do things in game just to get your character back to where it was before the gear level increase!!! How is this entertaining? What meaningful progression does this provide? This is simply implemented to keep you busy, not entertained or provide any value over game events you have already done the last two years.

My theory on how the increase gear cap will play out. This is from my experience playing eso. I can see them adding a new 180 cp area, where it doesn't scale, requirements will be added to ensure only players of 160 and above can venture. Something like coldhabor, new crafting mats, new crafting station and crafting gear (7 to 9 traits) only.

It will be more for maxed out players, very challenging and death will be certain. Kind of like vMA, but whole area of hell; not just 10 stages. Someone said, they training up for something, what if that something is the most challenging area ever created in any mmo. Where u dont want to adventure byself and its an open pvp world. Death comes at every corner. Would u accept the challenge then or still complaint about the increase.

I have heard the complaints, ill quit if they increase the cap. It would kill the game, no one would play. Seriously its like a broken record. The best one if they increase the gear cap, they should be some way to upgrade my gear and weapon. I dont disagree regearing sucks, but realistically why would u want that. There becomes a point u start getting bored once u have everything and u ain't earning anything, bruh.

If raising the gear cap is such an issue with some players I suggest avoiding MMOs since this is par for the course.

    This attitude is... Smh.

Pretty much why games die. Keep telling people to leave. That will really help.

    @Bryanonymous

Really now. WoW has been around almost 12 years doing this very same thing And still have millions of sibscribers.

Swtor is going strong after almost 5 years since release and they raise level cap about every 13 months.

your oppinion, while I respect you having one, it doesn't hold water or anything else.

So in other words... This game should just copy WoW and SWTOR because they have a fan base? Also implying those games main appeal was this. Smh. So why even play ESO, if WoW and SWTOR did this? If grinding for gear was so awesome, wouldn't we just be playing those games right now? You have your generic MMOs already. Leave TES alone.

Your reply of absurd. Plain and simple.

I prove your previous comment is flat out wrong and you come back sign this silliness.

If you do not like having level cap cap increased to find a lame MMO that doesn't do such things and enjoys is pathetic design. Lolz

With the massive changes to gear, launch of One Tamriel would have been a great opportunity to implement a gear CP cap increase. But now it's too late and the devs have been quiet and gave no hints as to when a gear cap might be introduced.
I would like gear caps to have a significant step in champion points whenever they are introduced and I would see 6 months a viable term for gear cap increases but not more frequent than that. Also, gear cap increases should be significant, not a mere 10-20 CPs but in the region of 50-60 or thereabouts. I would like the first increase, whenever it comes, to be 200 CP, then 250, then 300 or thereabouts. If the next update comes in 8 months time and it will be 180 CP I would be extremely disappointed.

We need a new gear cap? Really? Is that what people say when they have "nothing left to do"? You'll all be back every 3 months for the new DLC unless you're a hardcore PVP'er, in which case, it doesn't apply to you. Or because you've just had enough of the game anyway.

The only reason you need to keep playing a game is because you enjoy the actual gameplay elements. Anyone old enough...or just old :P...will remember Original Neverwinter Nights. A game that people are STILL playing. I played it for 12 years, well after Bioware left it for dead, and the server is still going. There are multiple servers still going. The game only ever had 1 level increase, from 20-40.

One Tamriel will remove all reason or purpose for raising the cap. In other games the cap is increased so that you can increase in power and get new and better armor/weapons. After One Tamriel increasing the cap would only weaken the players and force them to grind and/or farm gear just to get back to where they are now. You wouldn't be farming for some new and better armor, but most likely just farming what you have already farmed and battling the RNG once again.

Stop lying and saying its progression. You don't progress running on a treadmill when the mobs are also increased in difficulty.

God I am so sick and tired of hearing the "EVERY MMO DOES IT" kind of excuses. ESO is unique and not like other MMOs. That is a huge part of it's appeal. The devs need to realize they have something special here and that the ESO playerbase expects this game to be unique.

The vertical progression treadmill is stupid. There are some tryhard grinders that love just improving their numbers mindlessly. "Whoohooo window 10 is better than windows 7 because bigger number guise"

Those people make the game worse for all of us. You know what is really fun about this game? Actually playing it. Not grinding for gear so we can play it, actually playing. ZOS needs to have more confidence in their content, especially PvP and realize that people play to play, not play to grind.

Another Max level cap increase on gear will send me into permanent vacation mode from this game. It was a disaster all the previous times.
    • Remember all the trials, vendors, etc that remained under-leveled for MONTHS while ZOS forgot about them
    • Remember agility, willpower, and endurance being the ONLY endgame jewelry for MONTHS
    • Remember being forced to grind imperial city as the ONLY place for endgame materials for MONTHS

Say no to that nightmare again. I have been waiting for an excuse to drop this game and move to one where the developers respect the PvP community and respect their own content more than the grind. CP180 gear would be that excuse.

If they raise it to CP180, I would not be able to grind that content again. ZOS could implement a way to upgrade the level of an item.... but....

I'd likely lose the incentive to continue playing with the current RNG in place with certain content. Some gear is nigh on impossible to get. Raising the level means your current gear becomes obsolete.

To be perfectly honest, I doubt I'd keep playing if a very easy way to upgrade my gear to CP180 didn't exist.
