It's been pretty vague thus far so I'll clarify in case OP still is unsure:

Profanity Filter influences only what that person sees. Turn it off yourself, you see no *s, but everyone else will. They will see the *s until they turn THEIRS off. People try to dodge filters anyway so may as well just turn it off lol

So in other words: The only thing YOU can do to stop other people seeing asterisk in your message is to re-word it so it won't be filtered.

(BTW Did we ever work out why 'tinge' was censored? I've never heard of it and Urban Dictionary doesn't even have a page for it.)

Text chat on PS3 used to filter out the word "Engineer", which was unfortunate if that was the Assassin's Creed Brotherhood MP character you were talking about (otherwise known as the "Ginger Ninja"). Maybe part of the word is a swear in a different language, idk.

The profanity filter is ON by default. Turning it off does not remove the filter from words you enter into the chat window. Turning off the profanity enables you to see the words others type into the chat filter. For example, if you want to see all the cursing I do in zone chat, you'd need to turn the filter off. If you keep it on, you'll see those asterisks when I drop the F bomb.

Another combination that gets censored is the phrase "put a", like "put a ring on it".

Nah, it's censored because "Engineer" has a very suspicious combination of letters that can be mistaken for a racist term.

Can you guys at least add in variations of cuss words, more specifically, cuss words with dots between each letter? For some reason people in chat insist others see them swear, regardless if we have the filter on or not.
