Mead is a real drink you know- you can try it if you're willing to pay for a good bottle. Very sweet to the point of almost being sour, with a kick, is how I would describe it.

    Sweet skeever gumbo sounds....interesting.

oh really? fermented honey really exist?? :open_mouth:

Mead (/ˈmiːd/; archaic and dialectal "medd"; from Old English "medu"), is an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, grains, or hops. The alcoholic content ranges from about 8% ABV to more than 20%. The defining characteristic of mead is that the majority of the beverage's fermentable sugar is derived from honey. It may be still, carbonated, or naturally sparkling; dry, semi-sweet, or sweet. -Wikipedia page

I honestly wasn't sure if it was a real drink when I first heard of it (thanks video games), so I figured I'd see if it was, and apparently it is. It is a bit sickly sweet, as it is fermented honey, but it's quite nice :)

if you add anything to it it is called metheglin or melomel - depending on what you add.

a word of advice.... do not, under any circumstances, get drunk on mead. the hangover is terrible. probably why the nords are all so grumpy.

why is it so bad getting drunk from mead?? whats the different with getting drunk from general alcoholic beverages?

from my own and friends experiences the hangover is particularly bad. why that should be i'm not sure.

    Maybe low water content?

True, bc it is fermented honey, but would having more sugar make an alcoholic beverage more potent? I suspect it's probably something to with the honey itself and not just the added sugar.

it is not the potency that causes a bad hangover its what the drink gets metabolized into.

It'd be more potent the longer you ferment it. Something brewer needs to do is decide when the batch of drink is done fermenting to get the desired balance of alcohol and flavor.

The body needs a lot of water to metabolize and purge the alcohol. The metabolism of simple sugars like those in honey also consumes water. Most of the hangover is in fact the effect dehydration. That's why sweet alcoholic beverages give the nastiest hangovers.

Well, I shall tell you something. I would not need anyone to tell me. If the beef found in the dungeon tasted more like chicken, or possibly pork, then it was probably not beef at all! That would make me very suspicious. Did you try it? What did it taste like?
