I like it, frankly I'd like it if main skills (class and weapons) were all unlocked and available immediaty and it was only the special skill lines that needed to be leveled, and also of course Champion Points (which I don't suggest changing except to buff how much of an effect they have).

Grinding a character up to the point where you can start to acquire gear that is useful for endgame is always annoying for me, I've always viewed it as being a pointless bother that would be best done away with in any game. Playing end-game content and acquiring top-notch gear (as long as it's fun and not too grindy), now that is where the fun is, that's where the game truly starts for me, everything before that is just pointless muck you have to wade through to get to the good stuff.

I can't say that I'm really bothered by it though, certainly not in this game where you can grind a character to 50 in a day if you're prepared and committed enough, but leveling up is boring and pointless and I just want access to all my basic skills right off (again, special skill lines needing to be leveled up is fine, but needing to level up everything just makes it harder for newer players because they lack the ability to devise properly effective builds).

So yes I definitely like this change, it's a move in the right direction that opens the game up more for newer players and simplifies gameplay across Zones. Right now I don't even bother with story quests as much as anything because they give me no experience because I skipped them until after hitting 50, this change eliminates both the need to do things in order and the detractor of not getting anything out of it if you go back and do low level content later on. And I like the simplified UI of no monster levels shown, more immersive I think, less unnecessary fluff to distract from the actual gameplay.

You are the player this change is for. Makes it easier for you to do the whole 1-50 in a day, but I am the opposite. I LOVE the questing and leveling. There's no way I would try to level that fast. I enjoy the base game. I guess I'm in the minority, but I have little interest in the end-game content. YET> someday, maybe I'll try to get the "fancy" sets. But I have a cp300something character, and I've all but abandoned her to start several alts so I could go through the game again. Currently level 37 on one, and she probably won't even make 50 before One Tamriel... maybe.

So, when you say you think that whole first part of the game could just be done away with, you'd be taking away my entire game. Honestly. if they could figure out how to make that optional, that'd be great. But please don't ask for everything to be unlocked immediately. Some of us want to earn it.

I do like questing as well but I got this game for PvP and that's my primary focus, and you can't be competetive in PvP without leveling up and getting top notch gear (exploitation of the auto-leveling mechanic notwithstanding). And I also don't even use what some people consider top notch, I just mean max level and competetive gear but not necessarily BiS gear. In PvP I run Hundings/Agility/Endurance sets on my Stam characters and Kagrenacs/Willpower/Endurance on my magicka characters (with the exception of Pelinals/Agility/Endurance on my Templar), and apart from Pelinal's which I don't actually have yet (can't make it myself and have been too busy with my other characters to get around to getting it crafted for me) I make all my own gear, farm my own mats and buy as little as I can manage from other people.

If not for the sort of endgame activities this game has and the fact that you need to be a max level character to obtain and use the best gear and be properly competitive then I wouldn't mind leveling so much at all, but this game and games like it define themselves by the endgame content too much for me to take it slow and level while questing. I played Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, and Tactics of course, along with Legend of Dragoon and some others besides that I played less of but still enjoyed.

I played (most) of those games a lot, over and over, because they were fun and riveting adventure games with amazing stories and leveling up as you go is just what you do in those games, and anyway in the end the game is just over without anything much else to do (unless you skipped stuff on the way). And leveling up too much too fast in those games just made everything after stupidly easy, which was fun to an extent but boring in the long run, I like being challenged.

So it's just about this game and what it offers at the end, which unlike all those other games this game and others like it offer content you can't even do without being a maxed level character, and it's content that I'm far too interested in to feel like waiting and leveling up gradually when I could grind myself up and play immediately. Ultimately though I do like questing and want to be able to go back and do those quests I skipped, but as it is they give me hardly any Experience or Gold because they're low level quests and at this point in the game when I've got all these characters I'm looking to optimize I just can't afford to waste time by doing activities that don't reward me for my time.

Even as a max level I've got skills to level up and CP's to get, and I can always use more Gold and gear to deconstruct, but right now the game gives me none of those things (or at least not enough, and the gear you get is all low level stuff that isn't even worth deconstructing) when I do low level quests, and when any time I spend in PvE is time away from PvP and the war effort it's just not something i can bother with if it's not helping me to properly advance my characters.

I see where you're coming from and appreciate that people come to this game for different reasons and play it quite differently, but I also don't see how this upcoming change takes anything away from your experience, the quests are all still there and they still give you at least as good rewards as before if not better, and your character will still have to level up as now even if you're doing quests in a different order because you have the freedom to travel around. So really this is the best of both worlds with you still playing how you want and others being more free to play how they want, sounds like a win-win to me.

I only mentioned my disdain for leveling in this kind of game because you mentioned they might as well get rid of levels altogether and I wanted to voice my support for that idea even if you aren't a fan, but it doesn't seem to me that they've gotten rid of them at all even if it seems that way to you. You still need to level up your character and your skills and can't wear gear higher than your level, so the only thing that's changed is that you'll have the freedom to quest wherever you want and the enemies will be a standard difficulty everywhere, neither of which seems problematic to me in the slightest for anyone's style of play quite apart from my own.

I get of course that some people liked the challenge of fighting enemies above their level, but there's a solution to that with special game modes or challenges or quests or whatever that take you to an instanced place with harder enemies whose difficulty you can select, we already have some such activities in game and the addition of more could potentially settle any complaints people may have of not having harder enemies to fight.

Got to be a good thing. Like the idea of heading back to zones, where I've skipped quests due to over leveled characters. Now I can gain XP for completing those missed quests. Same for public dungeons, dolmens.

lol, thanks JD I think I may be seriously in the minority though... I am overleveled right now in my questing on my level 37, but I just can't bring myself to start skipping content to catch up. I gotta do it all. entire map must be white before I move on.
In this, One Tamriel will be a positive because I won't out-level it.

I'm the same, hence my only having a single lvl 50 character (and only 70 cps) after playing for well over two years.

One thing I haven't been able to do in that time is the DLCs, because they would simply have over-leveled me even more when returning to the base game content. With One Tamriel I'll be able to take my time doing the base game content and the DLCs as and when I fancy it and without any such issues of being over-leveled.

So far as new players are concerned, I do strongly recommend that they forget the basis of One Tamriel and stick to their native alliance while leveling up. It will still feel like normal leveling as they'll see their actual level more dominantly than their scaled level, but if they drop their native alliance questline and run around the world just because they can then they will totally lose their sense of purpose. Join the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood at any time, but leave the other alliance areas until they've finished their own alliance content, other than perhaps for the odd social visit to team up with friends for a session.

I remember when first playing the game on PC and many people said "Auridon is nice but I will never go back there again with my over leveled characters..." I am Talking about AD Alliance characters here..

Well with One Tamriel..Now you can...and not only that but every set in the game can scale to cp160, so you can Stay in Khenarthi's Roost or Bal Foyen or any area now and it scales to you..

if you need to Grind now..anyplace will be viable..

    Good job ZOS

    In two minds.

Like levelling, & different areas being different levels. Like testing myself against the odds as well as going back and being a god in earlier zones.

    {But that was with my first character. He is (apparently) the only rubbish stam nb in the game as despite gear/cp/food etc he can't solo dungeons or world bosses that easily but I love him.}

The prob with my alts is that they levelled up fast - too fast! Had to give serious consideration to which quests to do so not to overlevel. Have a new nb that want to do tg / db with, but am waiting as otherwise she will be overlevelled for starter islands.

So will just have to wait & see.......sounds like will be ok but will miss feeling like a god.....

At CP198 and going through zone 4 of silver, I definitely will not miss it. Honestly, the scaling needs to be done. I never did any grinding at all. I just played the quests and pledges, and got many CP injections from enlightenment and daily randoms. Now, I don't even want to play anymore until the scaling because the zone is just too easy and the loot is worthless.

Believe it or not I like the idea. I think the level cap should be raised to 80 though. I got to level 50 just doing motif dailys and sky shard hunting. Getting to max level via farming( not grinding) feels strange to me.

Not sure I understand your comment about everything being 160 all the time

It will only be 160 if YOU are 160+ If you are leveling an alt, it would scale to your current level. Pre vet levels, how would leveling be any different than it is now?

I'm not trying to be snarky (please don't take it that way), but if there is a difference I really would like to know what will change. The only thing I see changing is post lvl 50.

This is incorrect. I'm pretty sure that battle levelling works as follows:
    • All enemies are scaled to CP160.
    • All players that are less than CP150 are artificially boosted to the equivalent of an average CP150 player.
    • All loot drops are scaled to the players actual level.
    • All crafting dropss are split 50/50 between the players actual level and the points the player has spent for that particular crafting level.

I totally agree; of all my 17 characters (two accounts, only one extra slot so far) only 3 are CP 50+ and those are all on the same account.

I love the exploring, I love getting to know the NPCs, I love meeting them "again" in different parts of the world. I love participating.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Characters will be battle leveled. All mobs will be CP160, and characters will level to them. Just like what happens in the DLC zones currently.

Well, yeah, but the problem is that why would you want to go back there? I mean, unless you like hanging around Vulkhel Guard, that is. I think most people will just hang out in one place, like Reaper's March. That will be just like being in Auridon, except with fewer trees and more cats.

I could be wrong, but unless a player is questing, generally exploring, boss hunting, or set hunting in the over world, there is really no reason to go anywhere. This is especially true if you are grinding in the over world. Every zone has what you want, so you might as well just hang out at the Reaper's March Mall. I question whether ZOS has done enough to differentiate the zones.

    We'll see.

I love the way it's going to be when update 12 hits.

I can't wait to be able to take my max-level characters back to the zones that they've out-leveled and be able to actually feel like I'm doing something instead of just being a silly bugger one-shotting everything and getting nothing for it. The experience for a brand new player is also going to be better than it is currently IMO. They made some smart updates to the battle leveling for the lowest level characters, and I love the new Trainee gear set that drops on the starter islands. The difficulty for a new character using whatever gear was dropped feels about right to me.

I took a copied character to starter areas and didn't get a single piece of Trainee to drop. Is it only from quest rewards?

Does it only drop from chests, and then only from the Advanced and Master chests in any significant probability? In my experimentation, there are no chests above Simple in Update 12. After some time, and many chests, I only saw Simple on PTS. On Live, I see a lot of Simple, a few less Intermediate, and just a couple Advanced chests as I wander around.

No, it drops from mobs and chests as well. Non-jewelry pieces that drop are always in the Training trait. Pieces that you get from quest rewards are various different traits (as in the reward for quest A will always be trait A, the reward for quest B will always be trait B, etc). The brand new character I created on PTS had a full usable set of 5 pieces of Trainee gear by level 6 (was level 3 when starting to adventure in Khenarthi's Roost), including several extra pieces where I had more than 1 piece for a particular gear slot. That came from a combination of quest rewards, items dropped by mobs, and items looted from chests.
