Grinding a character up to the point where you can start to acquire gear that is useful for endgame is always annoying for me, I've always viewed it as being a pointless bother that would be best done away with in any game. Playing end-game content and acquiring top-notch gear (as long as it's fun and not too grindy), now that is where the fun is, that's where the game truly starts for me, everything before that is just pointless muck you have to wade through to get to the good stuff.
I can't say that I'm really bothered by it though, certainly not in this game where you can grind a character to 50 in a day if you're prepared and committed enough, but leveling up is boring and pointless and I just want access to all my basic skills right off (again, special skill lines needing to be leveled up is fine, but needing to level up everything just makes it harder for newer players because they lack the ability to devise properly effective builds).
So yes I definitely like this change, it's a move in the right direction that opens the game up more for newer players and simplifies gameplay across Zones. Right now I don't even bother with story quests as much as anything because they give me no experience because I skipped them until after hitting 50, this change eliminates both the need to do things in order and the detractor of not getting anything out of it if you go back and do low level content later on. And I like the simplified UI of no monster levels shown, more immersive I think, less unnecessary fluff to distract from the actual gameplay.
You are the player this change is for. Makes it easier for you to do the whole 1-50 in a day, but I am the opposite. I LOVE the questing and leveling. There's no way I would try to level that fast. I enjoy the base game. I guess I'm in the minority, but I have little interest in the end-game content. YET> someday, maybe I'll try to get the "fancy" sets. But I have a cp300something character, and I've all but abandoned her to start several alts so I could go through the game again. Currently level 37 on one, and she probably won't even make 50 before One Tamriel... maybe.
So, when you say you think that whole first part of the game could just be done away with, you'd be taking away my entire game. Honestly. if they could figure out how to make that optional, that'd be great. But please don't ask for everything to be unlocked immediately. Some of us want to earn it.

In this, One Tamriel will be a positive because I won't out-level it.

It will only be 160 if YOU are 160+ If you are leveling an alt, it would scale to your current level. Pre vet levels, how would leveling be any different than it is now?
I'm not trying to be snarky (please don't take it that way), but if there is a difference I really would like to know what will change. The only thing I see changing is post lvl 50.

Well with One Tamriel..Now you can...and not only that but every set in the game can scale to cp160, so you can Stay in Khenarthi's Roost or Bal Foyen or any area now and it scales to you..
if you need to Grind now..anyplace will be viable..
Good job ZOS
From the playing around on PTS I've done, both with my real characters (most of whom are max-level, but including a couple who are only level 20ish on PTS), and with a brand new level 1 character I created with no CPs and leveled on PTS to level 8... I love the way it's going to be when update 12 hits.
I can't wait to be able to take my max-level characters back to the zones that they've out-leveled and be able to actually feel like I'm doing something instead of just being a silly bugger one-shotting everything and getting nothing for it. The experience for a brand new player is also going to be better than it is currently IMO. They made some smart updates to the battle leveling for the lowest level characters, and I love the new Trainee gear set that drops on the starter islands. The difficulty for a new character using whatever gear was dropped feels about right to me.

I took a copied character to starter areas and didn't get a single piece of Trainee to drop. Is it only from quest rewards?
No, it drops from mobs and chests as well. Non-jewelry pieces that drop are always in the Training trait. Pieces that you get from quest rewards are various different traits (as in the reward for quest A will always be trait A, the reward for quest B will always be trait B, etc). The brand new character I created on PTS had a full usable set of 5 pieces of Trainee gear by level 6 (was level 3 when starting to adventure in Khenarthi's Roost), including several extra pieces where I had more than 1 piece for a particular gear slot. That came from a combination of quest rewards, items dropped by mobs, and items looted from chests.Wolfchild07 wrote: »From the playing around on PTS I've done, both with my real characters (most of whom are max-level, but including a couple who are only level 20ish on PTS), and with a brand new level 1 character I created with no CPs and leveled on PTS to level 8...
