Undaunted Set Infernal Gaurdian Needs Rework

This set needs rework because I cannot believe that what the set does is intended.

I tested the set in Imperial City and it was chaos. Casting a damage shield while just walking around would agro mobs I was nowhere near. Then while fighting these mobs and casting healing ward, it caused mobs I couldn't even see to agro. The mortars go all over the place - behind walls and they target mobs which are meters away. I even managed to hit a DC with some mortars without knowing he was in the district and he was behind a wall meters away. It should not target non-agro targets.

Another problem is that it doesn't seem to hit the person it was targeting but rather the ground around them meaning that if they move slightly, they take no damage. If this set is going to be in any way viable, it needs to actually hit the target. Remove the aoe aspect of it and just have it hit a single target. Preferably a target that isn't behind a wall.

1 mortar that deals the 5k damage instead of 3 mortars, make it a single target and remove the nonsense of targeting the further person away and targeting non agro targets. Please, this is the first 2 piece that seemed viable for a mag sorc in PVP. A lot of us were excited to finally see something for mag sorc and this is just disappointing.

Did you also test what happens if you duel ?

Does it hit the spectators ?

    From what you tell @Mulcibur

It is more a "collateral damage" set than a guardian ;)

    Jep

Artillery fire has a long standing reputation to hit everything and nothing in wide area's

You know where you sometimes cast a ward just before you die but it didn't go off in time and then when you re-spawn it casts the ward. I re-spawned away from mobs after dying and the ward cast automatically and then I had 2 groups of mobs on me.

Tested it. All the mortars target the person you're dueling unless there are mobs in the duel area. All the mortars target that person which makes for some nice dmg.

This set is highly impractical but outright hilarious. I had a DK healer friend that wanted to try it out, reasoned that since he's spamming Igneous Shield for the major mending anyway it would be a decent way to do damage between heals, so we went to vSpindle 1 to try it out.

The 1st pull resulted in every enemy between the entrance to the spider miniboss getting aggro'd as the mortars went flying every which way. We got thru the pull well enough but he immediately took it off after that chaos and put on Sentinal of Rhukaz (or whatever the dwemer spider that returns stamina set is called) saying "Never again" :D

Hmm, I'll have to dig out my blazing shield tank and try this out. Sounds like fun!

I also used it in Craglorn and it kept pulling mobs that were not aggroed and kept having more and more mobs coming to fight me, instead of it targeting the ones that were attacking me near me. Overall I like this set quite a bit, but perhaps it needs its range lowered to the actual enemies you pulled already. In duels it works alright since the only enemy around is your duelling opponent. I didn't duel near groups of mobs however

Simple solution, make it target the NEAREST target ! Not the one that's farthest away. This is such a ridiculous concept in itself  and it must target the target, not the ground

What's the maximum range? 28/36m? Or will I target players in Blackboot when I cast a shield in Dragonclaw^^
Also your post sounds as if it doesn't require los. Does this mean you can stand outside a keep spamming shields to kill people inside?

I'm not sure what the maximum range is, I will test it out. I'll also test spamming it outside a keep while enemies are on the other side of the wall. Could be interesting. Will let you know the results.

Someone mentioned having a ton of sorcs on a keep wall spamming shields it would make for an awesome defense.

So basically it is a grinding set... Go to a densely populated area cast shields every 6 seconds as you work through the area and AoE everything that comes to you. Got it.

I can imagine this set is problematic in dungeons and trials, but if you are running a group in IC I can imagine it actually being useful.

If I could have my preference I would rather it was a cast on self (like Proxi-det) then it would be much more useful.

Open world was okay with the exception of pulling mudcrabs while fighting someone and almost never getting the mortars on the person I was fighting.

    Jep :)
It does exactly what mortar fire should do !!!
It is light weight artillery for indirect fire:
By definition there is no LoS: "Indirect fire is aiming and firing a projectile without relying on a direct line of sight between the gun and its target, as in the case of direct fire".

And although I am happy to hear it can be used in duelling...
I think we should not change this set towards a single target hit: It is not a "smart or aimed projectile".

And yessssss...... this is a great set for Tanks that use shields

    It even procs Siphoning Attacks
(I got procs... but so far it appears to be on the first hit only)

The 3 mortars are also in that sense smart, that if you kill your original target with the first mortar(s) it will redirect the other mortar(s) to another enemy.
(so far I saw that only happening to another enemy already fighting in melee range)

    EDIT:

BTW I wonder if our Guardian can spot enemies in stealth !!!
    That would be awesome
Travelling through Cyro... now and then casting your shield and spotting stealthed enemies >:)
