Idea: Make Our Own Costumes

So Zeni is creating a number of wonderful, unique costumes. Some of them are based on armors in the game and some are new creations. Now they can be dyed.

Great.

But I was thinking: it would be nice if we could craft an armor set or outfit, and then save it to our account as a costume. We would be able to use the craftable items (so the motif and other items), and dye them. We could then equip the items we wanted and then save it to our account as a costume. Like a costume, it would have no benefits (e.g. not physical resistance, etc.) ... it would just be a costume.

Pros:

- Unique costumes we design.
- We could make use of lower level crafted items even after we "outgrow" them (I like some of the iron and steel sets).
- We can remove armor/clothing items we don't want (shoulder cops, etc.)

Cons:

- Some people might be mislead by a player wearing low level armor (but, hey, isn't that what the wedding dress is for?)
- Server space??
- Design difficulty?

I frankly don't know how hard this would be but I think it would add a lot of variety to the game and allow for longer use of some low level crafted items. Also, it would allow Zeni team to focus on creating new, unique items rather than those made of existing armors.

Just a thought.

Absolutely needed and I'm pretty confident it will come at some point :) it's a highly requested thing which really has no implications at all

Zenimax could even have a costume designing contest and feature some of the winners in a DLC.

    Just another thought.

It's a great idea. However I suppose such function may be... complicated to implement.

I like the costumes that ZOS have put into ESO. But, for me, nothing will top the cosmetic system from Lord of the Rings: Online.

I spent hours on that refining my outfits, making a fortune selling dyes (yes, alchemists could brew dyes and sell them).

Great idea but never going to happen.
    1. It would destroy costume sales in the crown store.
    2. Would be a significant amount of work to create for Zos with very small return.

    Not necessarily.

Turbine still sold unique outfits on their store. They made tons of cash just from RP servers alone.

I could make a Breton Hero Costume. Mixing and matching armour pieces takes about as much work as how much was put in to making the costume.

Not if, to craft the customes, you need a new and special style stone that can be only obtained through the crown store. ;)

If making a costume cost the same as the dye stamps, I could see that as being very profitable considering current costumes are a one-and-done deal. I've spent hours matching different motifs and dyes in the crafting menus to get my crafted sets looking just right, but all that work goes out the window when I want to use a dropped set item. I know I'd spend 100 crowns if I got to pick the pieces, 500 if they let me dye it indefinitely afterward.

I want this! I have a perfect set on my level 18 Sorc, if there were an option to freeze experience gain so never I have to move to the affront to the eyes that most of the higher level armors are I'd jump at it.

In a perfect world this would be in the game, in the real world it will cost crowns.

Do it as a crown service token.

"Allows to save 1 armor set as a costume" 1200crowns (ZOS would probably charge 2500 for it)

Never having to see that character with big ugly tassets floating about would be worth the crowns.

If they charge that much it might as well just be an ESO+ exclusive.

Would be cool if ESO could do that, like in BnS their guild costume system is very cool instead of simple guild tabard that we have here now

Considering the prices in the style parlor, this would be 25,000 crowns. Maybe 30,000

They had similar suggestions from players long time ago and still they choosed this random boxes "pay and get nothing" module :( I have no idea why, it cannot be profitable if players are upset, on the contrary - if players will not be as happy with all the new features (except bind on equip-that is another stain) because of that generally, that will even lower their sales. But still they try against all of that, well let them try and hope they will fail and change their mind finally to something RPG and "showing friendly face like" to their players :(

Quite the opposite: they can actually increase revenue by putting this option into the Crown store, with the caveat that it can't be scarce and priced into ridiculous stupid.

Then, they can tier customization options like they do the dyes (which oddly enough, aren't available in the Crown store for individual purchase).

This way, there's a variety of options, allowing people to mix and match, and if priced decently, give value for the purchase price.

I would pay to customize armor for my character.

I'd also pay to have different mount options, which either offer improved versions what the game gives or customized options such as helms, skirts, or even dyes to change the color of mounts.

The reality is there are a ton of ways to financially benefit from a game like this.

Whether or not ZoS coded this to make it easy to implement is unknown, though judging how all armor looks the same, probably not.

    Maybe Update 20.

"It would destroy costume sales in the crown store."

Only if the costumes designed for the crown store were created using already existing motifs. Some of them have been, true, but most of the costumes are new designs that cannot be crafted.

But if they put a price tag on each creation by requiring the player to buy a stone or something for the service, it would not destroy and could possible create sales.

"Would be a significant amount of work to create for Zos with very small return."

Maybe. But the artifacts - the parts of the costume - are already created anyway. It would simply require associating the items with a character and saving them as artifacts for that character. I seem to recall there was a mod awhile back that allowed the player to save a armor setups. This would be the same thing, only saving the creation as a costume.

It would be no harder to do this than it would be to give a player a stone which changes any armor piece in the game to any style (say change Breton boots to Orc boots).

It wouldn't if it was limited. People would still buy costumes if they were unique and you couldn't make them...

And they could also very easily make more profit from selling smaller pieces of clothing at lower costs. Like a new pair of pants or a shirt etc. It'd probably be more profitable than selling dyes like they're currently doing.

Just like the hairstyle thing that came out. That would have been a heap of work. Clothing would be more profitable you'd think.
