Rubedo Leather Scraps: Sell, or refine?

Hello! I've been farming wrothgar for scraps and am currently sitting on 800 of them. The question I'd like to pose, is whether it is more gold efficient to sell the scraps, or to refine the leather and proceed to sell tempers and refined leather that you receive. Is there any measure of documented testing or developer statement involving the probability of receiving various tempers from refining raw materials at max points in extracting passive, and if there is, could anyone link me to one? I'd also appreciate it if anyone is willing to provide anecdotes relating to their experiences with refining raw materials.

Well, I think the stats are 1.2 chances of getting a Dreugh Wax per 100 (Averaged over a large data set).

I would prob. stick em up for 30k a pop. let someone else gamble on making from it :) They'll sell.

Once I decon more than 1000 and got only 2-3 temps so Ive said to myself never again. Sell raw by mats when you need. Never had luck on gambling so play safe.

So it does depend on the market prices of the scraps, refined leather and all the tempers you get from refining. Right now I have a market value of 70 per scrap and a "true" value of 102 per refined scrap + tempers (from MasterMerchant) so it would seem to make sense to refine them first with a max refinement passive and then sell them.

However, the value of 102 is the *average* value of tempers you get, mostly the Dreugh Wax. With a relatively small sample of 800 scraps (80 refinements) you may get significantly more or less than this amount.

From 800 scraps you'd expect the following results after refining:
    • 680 leather (85%, 78 gp)
    • 12 Hemmings (1.47%, 12 gp)
    • 10 Embrioideries (1.26%, 43 gp)
    • 6 Elegant Lining (0.78%, 250 gp)
    • 4 Dreugh Wax (0.54%, 6000 gp)

So, assuming you get near the average return, you could sell the scraps for 56k or refine everything and sell them for 95k.

For some reason i think rubedo leather has less chance of dreugh wax.
Refined a bunch of things for crafting and always get a few gold tempers but hardly ever with rubedo

Woah, thanks! Not to downplay the answers of the other posters on this thread, but this is exactly what I was looking for. Question, though, could you link me to the source of the probabilities you've stated here? I'm really hoping that there is a spreadsheet of some kind on materials.

There's a bunch of threads in various places I looked at. I'll see if I can find them all:
    1. This forum thread was my main source.
    2. This reddit thread has a bunch of stats and a few other sources.
