Some people are real jerks about grind spots. Even if they did get there first, it's all community area and they don't have any special claim to areas or mobs. No excuse for them making fools of themselves.

I would guess this type of attitude comes from early MMO gamers more than anything. Back in UO , EQ , DAoC etc groups could " claim " a mob camp(s) and it was frowned upon if you moved in yourself or with another group. I grew out of that attitude shortly after moving on from those games ( that doesnt mean I wouldnt play another game with that playstyle ).

Just do what you are there for or if you are feeling spiteful stick around haha.

If I come across anyone like that I clear my schedule and sit there and mess with their grinding until they log.

"Hey, we're grinding and were wondering how long you anticipated being here?"

(I finish my quest and move on.)

"Hey, GTFO! These are our mobs and your *** with our XP!"

(I am now a dedicated "*** up their XP machine" for as long as they're willing to attempt to keep grinding.)

On those rare occasions when I run into grinders, I am reminded that they are playing an entirely different game from me. I'm a PvE-only player who enjoys questing and exploring, so I've never once felt the need to grind. I don't get what the appeal of the game is for someone who has the grinding mentality. What's their goal? To level up for PvP?

I have chat turned off so if anyone has a problem with me they are talking to air and I don't even notice. I find grinders kind of strange anyway. People seem to grind as if that was the purpose of the game itself and then they do it obsessively as if there was a time limit. It's best to ignore their tantrums and move on I guess.

Except with battle leveling, lower characters are stronger and have better stats.

So it's probably for PvE for Trials and all maybe?

That's the reason for the ignore feature. People don't like you freely wandering around the world? Ignore 'em. I mean, what can they do to you? Nothing. If they're so inconsiderate of other players that they can't accept the fact that people may be fighting/questing in the same area they need to learn to cope.

When I grind, I always try to be mindful of others. I've been on both ends of it, and okay, I won't make as much XP for a few, but no big deal.

Only problem I ever had personally was on a quest where you had to hurt (and not kill) a couple of bears. If killed the bears almost instantly respawned and at one of them was a group farming for mats so I couldn't complete the quest. I didn't bother asking if they'd let me do the quest but just went off and did something else and completed it another time.

I do remember playing with someone once, I helped them complete a world boss and then they were going to level up werewolf as they'd just been bitten. I led them to an area near the world boss that I knew had groups of enemies so they'd be able to get lots of kills in and then I left them to it. After a bit 2 other players turned up, a high level player who was grouping the enemies up for a low level player to get a hit in before the high level player finished them off. They started sending messages to the person I was playing with telling them to leave because they were levelling, needless to say he ignored them and carried on doing what he was doing until he got werewolf to 10

This is the right approach. Of course, additionally if I'm questing in an area and I notice people obviously grinding there, I'll make a point of doing the minimum mob-killing I need to do in the area and moving on, whether they nicely ask me to or whether they don't ask. It's only when they're actively rude that you should mess up their grind. I suspect that's what you do too @nine9six. Be nice and polite to others out there in the game world until and unless they give you a reason not to be. Then show them the error of their ways >:)

In Auridon at that village where the inhabitants are turned into stone and the wolves and bears are under daedric influence? That's a well known grind spot for XP and mats, but it's really dickish of grinders to not allow questers there to grab a bear here and there. In cases like that, you should politely ask them to let you complete the quest so that you can move on. I suspect most people would be fine with that and let you do what you need to do. If they ignore that or if they reply in a rude fashion, that's when you wreck their farming. Maybe ask all of your friends to come and descend on the area until they give up and log.

The only situation where I can understand it is if someone is grinding a rotation and someone else shows up and interrupts the rotation to start grinding themselves. However, someone dropping in to finish a quest and leave isn't an issue.

It shouldn't be, and I believe for most grinders it isn't. But there are always a few bad apples who get pissed off at anyone interfering in any way with their grind as if they own the mobs...

I think they are talking about that quest in Grahtwood where there are literally just two bears and there is no way around it. The one about Sheogorath. The bears on the quest you mentioned do not respawn immediately, unlike the ones on that Grahtwood quest.

I'm a pve'r and just working through the areas as I lvl up.

Came across a quest area today and two lower lvl players were grinding mobs. One was getting owned quite a lot.

I joined in with heals thinking they needed help. I then got told to 'move away from here'. I ignored them and just continued my quest line. They clearly didn't want me there as any characters I had to kill as part of my quest they just jumped on. I eventually left as my quest took me away but I've never seen that before. Was quite surprised at how defensive people can be over 'their mobs'

I've had experiences like this... just going through a mob grinding area and someone first thing they do is Yell in all red caps: "Leave here, this is our area, stop stealing our xp,.. you probably can't gather mobs like this by yourself so you have to tag along with us more experiences players".... great thanks jerk.... i just responded "hope you become a friendly person someday... bye"

This issue has been known to irritate me somewhat, I normally depopulate the local area where a grinder is and move on, now with One Tamriel coming, I might be disgruntled enough to challenge them to a duel and really make them whine.

MY RESPONSE: "I understand you're grinding, but you need to consider that other people will come to this area in the interest of enjoying the questing and storyline provided by the developers."

"Therefore, until I'm actually finished with these quest chains, you're going to have to deal with the fact that I'm here. When I'm done, I'll move on but not a nano-second before."

The goal is to reach max level as fast as possible, with as few skill points as possible. Then when you've done that, you get to go back to the beginning and run through all the low-level zones collecting skyshards until you die of boredom.

The goal is to reach max level as fast as possible, with as few skill points as possible. Then when you've done that, you get to go back to the beginning and run through all the low-level zones collecting skyshards until you die of boredom.

Wow that just makes bored thinking about.

When I am passing through doing a quest, if I get a whisper telling me to leave, I tell them I am just doing the quest be out of here in a sec, if they keep pressing the issue I remind them I paid for the game to, and their names are not on these mobs, that complaining to me has caused me to be in the area longer, most of the ones I encounter were ok with me telling them be out of here in a sec, I have encountered only a couple of real jerks that thought the mobs were exclusive.
I would not even respond to their requests... just ignore them and continue on my way. What are they going to do about it?

If i get a single hate whisper that is a guarantee I will follow them for hours until they leave or log off. I have played 2 years five months i can grind toon to 50 in 6 hours anytime and have 11 toons leveled. I was in old orsinium and a Templar and sorc whispered me to move and I tagged every kill they made for the next several hours. I was actually going the opposite way until the whisper.

If I encounter this sort of mentality while I am trying to get a quest done, I just turn off all chat so I'm completely unaware of them raging at me. I'll be out of the area in a few minutes, and I paid for the game the same as they did.

I have found the majority of people to be respectful of people questing though.

If you spend a few minutes trolling them it is a good win, but IMO, if you spend hours wasting time trolling some grinder it becomes a loss rather than win.

Cool story, bro. Not sure what kind of reaction you are looking to get here on the forums.

When I'm farming for scraps, I do get quite upset when other players start to tag the mobs I'm trying to kill, so I can sort-of understand what the grinders feel when others come in and kill 'their' mobs. I always keep it to myself though- voicing grievances rarely has any positive effects for the speaker.

Im glad im not alone in this.

To be fair re my OP the grinders weren’t over the top nasty. They asked me to leave, I said no and carried on with my quest. (it wasn’t the bear one, it was an early blood fiend one where you had to speak to a few people, some which then attacked you). It was this bit where they decided to stop killing their mobs and just come and kill my quest characters. It didn’t affect my quest as the end result was the same, but it was clearly a huffy attempt to try and spoil my fun as I was in the area they were grinding. After the initial ‘please leave this area’ shout i just went about the area doing my quest and only killed a mob if it was in my way. This is quite often haha as they were pulling a mob then running across the area to drag it into another mob so they could AOE them. As such they were all over the place.

Was quite surprised at how defensive people can be over 'their mobs'

    lol, kids...
