    Hi folks,

This email is legitimate and related to a gifting program we're working on. We've sent it to only a small number of our players to start so we can get feedback and refine the program. If you're interested in helping us, please submit a Support ticket and we'll get you on the list!

It might be a good idea to tell your Customer Support people this, then. I received the email, thought it looked dodgy as hell (wrong font, a missing image, different-to-usual formatting, not from the current Customer Service email address but from the old one used in March 2014) and logged into the Support site to ask if it was legitimate. The reply I got did not give me any reassurance of the email's legitimacy and, if I hadn't seen this thread, I would have thrown it away. 160822-002492

So would gifting a box of random stuff to a friend be good or bad?

Why should it matter, its a gift. Its like a Christmas, should matter what u get when come in a from of a gift.

this will effectively allow you to convert CASH to GOLD...

Exactly. The (current) inability to do this was one of the only two reasons I got this game to begin with (the other is that it's an Elder Scrolls game).

It can already be done. WTS (insert exotic motif) armor. Your Silk and 5K with my style mat. You then use a mimic stone. This is not getting out of hand, because even rare style stones arent that expensive, and this would take a fair amount of work, but its already in the game.

Now expand that, want to sell a fancy mount for 50,000 gold. You just paid cash for gold. Period, end of story.

I see what you're saying but gifting crowns will make it even easier to trade in-game gold items or mats for real cash than what you are describing. Even easier to scalp crown prices. Buy crowns low in bulk when there is a sale, sell when a new item is released and crown prices are high. You won't even really have to play the game to exploit the system for cash at that point. Just set up method for people to pay you via paypal or square or whatever and gift them crowns.

Then there's the obvious problem with trading in game gold, items or mats for real cash via crown gifting. I don't know how the CE works, but I assume someone who can farm lots of good stuff 24/7 would always have someone willing to pay crowns for it, which would then be converted to real cash through crown gifting.

I wonder how they are going to prevent market forces from acting on crown gifting.

Day 1) Buy game and grind to 50.
Day2) Grind to CP160. Buy fancy crown store mount/s and trade for gold to buy end game gear.
    Day 3)End Game.

    Seems legit ZOS.

I made two posts about gift giving (one that got quite some attention)
    Wrote feedback about it
    Asked for it several times

    And wasn't invited :(

    I want a refund!

    ... refund of what?

    Whatever!

There is one thing that will make the gift system completely P2W and that is unbinding.

This is literally the writing on the wall for f2p, if they give you something to unbind gear that is BoP with crowns, it's over.

Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I would only suggest never selling crowns for a discounted price ever again. You will have players buying tons of crowns (they already do when there is a crown sale), waiting for the sale to end, and then trying to make a profit selling store items for less than the crown store price yet more than what they paid for their crowns.

Where's my forum disagree button? I personally like the crown sales...as I do stock up on crowns for my own personal use. I totally disagree with what you're proposing.

So, the opposition here is because people can, on the side, when ZOS is not looking, exchange Crowns or Crown Store items for cash, more than they paid for the Crowns, and in-game gold?

No need to do it without ZOS knowing. The point is that ZOS is considering allowing this so you can do it with their full knowledge and approval.

Is part of the program monitoring to see that the recipient of the gift doesn't show their appreciation by gifting back a few 100K gold?

I would assume you could only gift items and not crowns themselves. I would also go so far as to assume that when gifting am item it would be a one way transaction. This would require 2 transactions and would more than likely cause people attempting to trade crowns for gold to be scammed.

After a few get scammed this behavior will quickly decline for the simple fact it is not a secure transaction. People would not be very likely to report this for fear of punishment since I am sure this behavior would be against the rules.

So can we please put to rest this p2w stuff as it would not be as easy as people are making it out.

I am really liking the fact we will be able to buy Crown Store items for others. Almost month ago in one my guilds, one of my guildies couldn't afford to buy the new DLC and we really wanted him to be able to come and play with us, so a few of us got together and put money in a paypal so he could buy the DLC and we've had a blast since.

Having to do that though was a bit of a pain on the ass, so making it simpler so we can directly purchase it for friends who might otherwise not be able to afford DLC, but we want to play with will be awesome.

Isn't this exactly what [a certain popular Korean MMO ported to the west] just did a month or so ago that pissed the entire player base off and encouraged BS P2W mechanics? Granted the cash shop items in ESO aren't as P2W as in the aforementioned game, but it still offers an avenue to convert real money to in game gold, and that is a a major major problem.

I may be dense, but it sounds like ZOS is considering allowing gifting of Crowns (already possible, but new if done through a game interface) and items purchase with Crowns (new feature). I am not seeing anything here that would indicate GOLD was being exchanged, unless players are doing it while ZOS is not looking.

I am sure The Monetization Department is horrified by the idea of players buying tons of crowns, thinking they are clever and making profit, as much as you are, and will do something about it as soon they stop laughing. For example place orders for new Ferraris.

I guess a few of the Customer Support crew team didn't show up for the briefing this morning? xD

If you can gift Crowns in game, you can trade for gold. So essentially you can now buy gold in a round about way? Thats how I read it.

Your way of thinking is the exact reason Why MMO today are more casino with a graphical interface than an actual game. But it seems you enjoy that market so good for you. I must start to become old.

I don t know but for me converting cash for gold is clearly P2W. Exemple: for sorc 2 sharpened sword of élégant set ...no problem just sell Those four limited time offer mount you bought 3 month before...
Inflation will skyrocked and legit player will have no choice other than to do the same ...

    Will see what ll happen...
