actually there are less players active now then at launch, and maintenance first year was 1-3 hours depending on what was being done (3 hours was addition of new content) if anything there is fewer machines to maintain.
maintenance used to last from 8-10, then it got boosted to 8-11 and now its 6- 13 or later. this is getting to point of unacceptability. i get feeling they got rid of 90% of thier maintenance team and now we are suffering 7 hour long maintenances when they used to only be 2-3 hours.

How did you gather that there's less active players on PC now than before?
How also did you gather that there are fewer machines?

The quick non-tech answer: They keep adding more content, so there's more to fix. These guys have big job and I can imagine it's very tough just to keep up, cause I used to be a programmer and know full well, the minute you add another feature somewhere, odds are, it's going to break something somewhere else.
