Maybe... housing will be DLC, so that if you buy it (or are subbed) you will have access to it and don't need to buy/bid in-game for the actual house. And if you could choose which region you wanted it in, even better.

The SWG version sounds pretty awesome... I could see myself spending more time in ESO than I currently do if it it'slike that. Which, for the record, probably wouldn't be healthy.

I think DLC option sounds good and I would kind of be surprised if it wasn't given it was DLC in skyrim and when they have done things like this they seem to be DLC/crown paid rather than in game. I would just buy the DLC rather than rely on ESO because I'd rather not risk losing it if I stop ESO plus at some point.

really hope they dont make a mess of it .. while i love designing buliding houses .. i have 8 houses in ffxiv arr.. they should focus on guild housing first allowing them to build and enlarge over time etc!! personal housing SHOULD be instanced /hole in the wall/ apartment type houses .. otherwise there going to be screming for server space or have a whole lot of issues (not unlike ffxiv ) if they mix guild with personal!!

@ludvique Really enjoyed your post and you make some really good points. I so wished that I had stuck it out with SWG when it first launched. Just not a sci-fi fan and unfortunately we started having some unfortunate guild politics at the time. Played for a bit and left. I really regret that. From what I heard, there were so many great ideas in SWG and your post was a good read. Wanted to comment and give you a +1.

I've played quite a few games with player housing and unfortunately some of them left me feeling rather blah with regards to one of my most favorite aspects of an MMO. I think that some games have done quite well though. EQ2, Wildstar, Rift for example. Wildstar, even though instanced, was so creative in what players could do. Same with EQ2. I would spend hours visiting various houses and enjoy what talented and creative players could do.

I'm open minded but if housing were to be hook based systems like LOTRO or SWTOR (from what hubby tells me), I will be disappointed. Having player cities in ESO would be really neat. And let us build our house. Anyone remember Horizons? Spent many months designing and building my plot. A guildmate and I bought adjoining plots and were in the process of building a huge estate. I was so bummed when they started merging servers and the game started floundering.

Housing can be such a fun diversion and keep one invested in a game. Fingers crossed that Zen has some intriguing ideas for us coming out next year.

Thanks for your kind words. And yes: I do agree with your disappointment with the hook-system when it comes to furnishing and decorations. Granted, I am fine with hooks when I need to place a towel or my jacket in real life. Sure, same would be true in a game. But I prefer to place the sofa anywhere I like to, as an example. Unfortunately, I never played Horizons (nor The Lord of the Rings Online). Yes, fingers crossed for what may happen next year. Hopefully they will get it right.

The SWG housing system was incredible. I was 1 of those GLs that had a tier 5 city (New Solah on Bria). There were about 1400 items in my musti bunker, all 1 of a kind, dropped/crafted/trophys that more than 1 person came to the city just to see the bunker (it was public so any1 could come in a take a look around). The musti bunker had a built in bar in the basement (3 levels via elevator) that I had transformed into a giant fish tank, complete with bubbles, fish, plants, etc. For quests, Christmas presents to the playerbase, etc, SOE would come up with a new fireplace, painting, table, etc to be a reward/present/etc and at no time did a fireplace, or any other deco item, mess with PVP balance. There were so many different paintings in that bunker that I ran out of wall space and started putting them on the ceilings. I played SWG for 9 years and there was still 2 painting I never got my hands on. The game's been closed since 2011 and I still remember their names I looked for them so much, Dusk over Kirchirro and Dath Prison.

City Hall was deco-ed into a "health club" of sorts, complete with hot tub, pool tables, Big screens, and a "droid band" playing guitar-zan. The RPers in guild and in the city used that place quite a bit. City Cantina was deco-ed with tables, chairs, fireplaces, rugs, etc etc etc and was another spot that RP and non-RP seemed to use quite a bit. City hospital was deco-ed with beds, old med kits, etc. Another aspect of SWG cities was outside deco, outside gardens, street lighting, fountains, etc as well. I still have plenty of screenshots that the wife and I look back on pretty fondly.

I doubt we'll see cities here but complete deco of the interior of our own housing is at the least what I'm hoping for. I gave totally up on TOR the moment the released that "hook system". Same hook system was in STO when they put in ship interiors. I've got a lifetime sub over there and haven't logged-in in years.

Houses are in the following zones.

    Found:
    Deshaan (near Mournhold)
The Rift (one near Riften, one near Nimalten)
Glenumbra (south east of the Harborage)
Reaper's March (one near Rawl'Kha, one near Dune)
    Bangkorai (near Hallin's Stand)
Malabal Tor (near Baandari Trading Post)

    Unfound:
    Stormhaven (supposedly in Wayrest)

They are noticeable on the map with the one in Glenumbra standing out like a sore thumb.

Unfortunately, it didn't capture my cursor when I pointed at the locations for the screenshots. Some are obvious, some aren't. Easiest way to tell that a house is there is by looking for a building on the map that seems out of place. Example is just north-east of Nimalten in the Rift there is a small brown area with a path leading off the main road. A house is there

Edit: I'll keep updating that album as I find more. Added the houses in Stormhold and Wayrest and put a waypoint marker on the maps for them.

If bousing is done well it will be a fun time sink in the Rift i visted a lot of player houses and it was amazing what some players built and the attention to detail player housing is one of those things that helps you feel like you live in the world and not just playing through the world.

There's a bunch of us that can't quite let that game go. Our guild, over here is called SWGVETS in fact. I'd post SSs if I only knew how to post pics. lol

My sig, over at EMU, has a pic of the "tomb" I built for my pre-patch 9 jedi after the closure announcement. This was his 1st house and I had so much maintenance in it, I couldn't get rid of it. (millions lol) http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183117&page=2

I ran an EMU server for a year. Was called SWGCHOICE. Down now, was a very expensive ordeal with no way to re-coup costs. Servers are still in my garage, fully loaded with data, just in case ZOS goes out in left field and does some type of NERFWARS, CU, NGE, or C6CD. I doubt I'd go thru all that again and continue subbing.

If they did player housing correctly and made it accessible to friends it could conceivably replace Facebook eventually. Instead of having a flat two dimensional page you have a three dimensional room.

Of course Facebook is currently free and the game isn't so maybe not. Ah well...

Super disappointed by what I see there. While im excited for housing and the houses there are beautiful, there is going to be no sense of community with a single instanced house. Was hoping they were going to go the way of a instanced neighborhood so you could meet and know your neighbors. I understand they cant do SWG's open world housing, and I HATED Lotros hook system but was hoping they would use lotros idea for instanced neighborhoods so there would be a sense of community.
