The SWG version sounds pretty awesome... I could see myself spending more time in ESO than I currently do if it it'slike that. Which, for the record, probably wouldn't be healthy.
@ludvique Really enjoyed your post and you make some really good points. I so wished that I had stuck it out with SWG when it first launched. Just not a sci-fi fan and unfortunately we started having some unfortunate guild politics at the time. Played for a bit and left. I really regret that. From what I heard, there were so many great ideas in SWG and your post was a good read. Wanted to comment and give you a +1.
I've played quite a few games with player housing and unfortunately some of them left me feeling rather blah with regards to one of my most favorite aspects of an MMO. I think that some games have done quite well though. EQ2, Wildstar, Rift for example. Wildstar, even though instanced, was so creative in what players could do. Same with EQ2. I would spend hours visiting various houses and enjoy what talented and creative players could do.
I'm open minded but if housing were to be hook based systems like LOTRO or SWTOR (from what hubby tells me), I will be disappointed. Having player cities in ESO would be really neat. And let us build our house. Anyone remember Horizons? Spent many months designing and building my plot. A guildmate and I bought adjoining plots and were in the process of building a huge estate. I was so bummed when they started merging servers and the game started floundering.
Housing can be such a fun diversion and keep one invested in a game. Fingers crossed that Zen has some intriguing ideas for us coming out next year.
"Oh, let me guess: someone stole your sweetroll?"

We need to organize an expedition. Let's find ALL of these locations and post here, maybe?

One location - Glenumbra. Leave Daggerfall by the gate nearest to the Harbourage. Go towards the Harbourage, then go to the right - you'll find a new path. Follow this and you come to locked gates with a house/housing beyond them.

The SWG housing system was incredible. I was 1 of those GLs that had a tier 5 city (New Solah on Bria). There were about 1400 items in my musti bunker, all 1 of a kind, dropped/crafted/trophys that more than 1 person came to the city just to see the bunker (it was public so any1 could come in a take a look around). The musti bunker had a built in bar in the basement (3 levels via elevator) that I had transformed into a giant fish tank, complete with bubbles, fish, plants, etc. For quests, Christmas presents to the playerbase, etc, SOE would come up with a new fireplace, painting, table, etc to be a reward/present/etc and at no time did a fireplace, or any other deco item, mess with PVP balance. There were so many different paintings in that bunker that I ran out of wall space and started putting them on the ceilings. I played SWG for 9 years and there was still 2 painting I never got my hands on. The game's been closed since 2011 and I still remember their names I looked for them so much, Dusk over Kirchirro and Dath Prison.
City Hall was deco-ed into a "health club" of sorts, complete with hot tub, pool tables, Big screens, and a "droid band" playing guitar-zan. The RPers in guild and in the city used that place quite a bit. City Cantina was deco-ed with tables, chairs, fireplaces, rugs, etc etc etc and was another spot that RP and non-RP seemed to use quite a bit. City hospital was deco-ed with beds, old med kits, etc. Another aspect of SWG cities was outside deco, outside gardens, street lighting, fountains, etc as well. I still have plenty of screenshots that the wife and I look back on pretty fondly.
I doubt we'll see cities here but complete deco of the interior of our own housing is at the least what I'm hoping for. I gave totally up on TOR the moment the released that "hook system". Same hook system was in STO when they put in ship interiors. I've got a lifetime sub over there and haven't logged-in in years.

@Esquire1980g_ESO
Let me see the SS's!
I miss SWG so much. I've been scoping out the emu servers. Considering DLing.
If ESO housing was half as similar to SWG housing i don't think I'd ever log out
