Why you shouldn't be excited about One Tamriel

It's not a rant just don't be surprised if performance drops when this goes live. Just like game performance dropped from 1.5 to 1.6/Tamriel Unlimited the game ran better in 1.5 from a performance standpoint.

It has nothing to do with Instancing it had everything to do with every time they make major changes performance suffers for it.

When they implemented the lighting patch performance took a major nose dive.

It took another major nose dive with 1.6

Going on past precedence I have no reason to believe otherwise performance won't be hurt further in fact past indication tells me it most certainly will hurt performance

I guess it depends what you're doing and where, I haven't suffered any performance drops in the way you mention. I don't see any reason why I will with One Tamriel. You haven't yet explained why you expect everyone to be in the same place at the same time.

The mega server of course does this phasing already. There was still tremendous lag getting your cake. Sometimes stilll have issues with Rawl during peak weekend times.

The only hope is ZOS learned from the cake event, and has improved the phasing for the more crowded cities.

Why would they need to? After all, as others have said, not like anything is going to change, we aren't going to suddenly see everyone in one area... and even if players wanted to overcrowd an area, phasing only allows so many players per zone. It would be impossible to further limit cities unless they made all cities 'phased' which would add even more loading screens, which I think most people would agree are a bad thing.

The only difference is there will most likely no longer be any zones that are near empty (Cadwell's Solver/Gold) for your alliance.

To make this even more excruciatingly clear, combining 1 nearly-full AD reapers march zone with the nearly empty cadwell silver/gold EP/DC zones will result in fewer entire maps running on the server, making MORE resources available for everyone.

Full stop, let me ask you a question. Did you log in to get your cake the first day of the anversary event?

I did... and yeah, the lag was atrocious... but HOW OFTEN do you see so many players in one area at one time? You don't. The closest would probably be Rawl Ka, and even then I've never found it anything near cake day. But what do you expect when ZOS promotes a 'limited time' event with boosted XP... clearly EVERY SINGLE PLAYER is going to be going there for that.

So how does it work when you want to play with someone and they are in a different instance of the same, zone. Do you have to actually group with them and then port to the leader even if you are in the same zone? Sounds like a buggy way to do things if so.

That's why they already have the 'wayshrine to friend'... it worked the same way in DCUO... over there you'd have to group up and then switch phases.

It doesn't need to be as bad as cake day. I've had Rawl crash on me trying to load a character I had parked there or trying to wayshrine in during peak hours. The point is, it should never get as bad as cake day, let alone have loading issues for Rawl if phasing is done right.

Cyrodiil is stuck, because you can't have players take a keeps while being in a different instance than you. PvE can and should do better.

The ONLY way they could do 'better' would be to further limit the amount of people per phase, which, would also add more strain to the servers as they would have to increase the number of phases. I've personally never had a crash and Rawl Ka tends to be where I have numerous characters parked.

okay so they have to be on your friends, list. If they are just someone in your guild you can just used teleport form the roster. However if the leaders is a friend of a friend that invites you then you have to either group up or the friends goes to the leader and then you go to the friend. I don't think there is any real way to make this 100% seemless but it doesn't seem too bad.

Ah, well then, assuming nothing is changed, this will be an interesting first come this fall.
