I think the argument there was that saying that the devs weren't giving this issue attention due to racial bias is painting the devs as racist. It's more likely because they don't have the staff to deal with every petty issue immediately.

This incident sounds humorous to me. So I lean toward Panda's theory of it being a joke.

But even if it wasn't - Tamriel has racism all over the place. Albeit they are fictional races. But still... I would not think someone so sensitive to the concept could play a game like this.

It is against the rules of conduct to make statements about race though. So I guess legally they can be banned for it. My advice toward the OP would be not to sweat the little things. This is not a big deal.

Spoken like someone that either condones racism or is not bothered by it, the latter of which means you have no right to tell someone else to grow "thicker skin". And yes, it is a big deal.

You and Panda are literally the only ones oblivious to the problem here and are thus trying to defend racism by saying "it's not a big deal" and/or "they are just joking". For the record, jokes CAN be made at the expense of others, in which case they become offensive and not taken as a joke.

You can argue what we say all you want but that only makes it look more and more like you defend it, even if you do not.

Googled it, and no I do not think this is a light issue. I am however, educated enough to know that:
A. Discussions like these on public forums cause more sh!t than the original issue.
B. The entire goal of people like that is to provoke discussions like these where people talk divergent to one another.
C. Nobody here is going to change their stance, neither the "I dont care crowd" nor the easily offended.

You can do more. You can find out who they are and find out about the guilds they belong to and talk to those guilds. Urge them to give warnings over their behaviour or boot them.

But in all seriousness, this is such a non issue. This type of crude dark humor has been common among the edgelords of the internet for some time and yet this manages to throw you in a tizzy? Unless there was an actual person who was trying to advocate for the subjugation of a race, the idea that we need to start a witch hunt for taboo langue is beyond stupid.

In the end, these we're just people trying to invoke a reaction by saying taboo or immoral *** and they certainly won with all of you crying here.

Heh, always wondered why folks get so sensitive with racism nowadays. I'm middle-eastern and live in the US, so I've got my fair share of jokes. Thing is, like you said, they're just jokes. Used to get them when I was in highschool, and lemme tell ya... there were some creative ones. Laughed along with 'em most of the time, because why take it so serious when they're not, right?

Why spend your time being so uptight and serious. It's the internet, you have the ability to 'literally' ignore them, or report and w/e. We're adults, some of us anyway. Suck it up and hit the report/ignore button. Getting all worked up and starting a riot on the forums is exactly what they want you to do. Ignore.

Were you there for the incident OP is mentioning? Do YOU know if these people were "joking around" or not? Voice chat actually contains intent in the way people speak and is very clear as opposed to using text chat so if OP found it offensive odds are it wasn't just humor. For all you or I know these people were flat out offensive in dialect.

A. What they do is inform Zenimax of the offenders and request something be done. Whether it happens or not, at least they tried.
B. People talking divergent to one another is not due to them, it's due to differing viewpoints.
C. You say "easily offended" when in actuality it's "offended by something very controversial". Obviously the "I don't care" crowd doesn't understand that.
D. There really isn't anything to argue, unless you wish to contribute TO the problem instead of act AGAINST the problem, which is honestly both sad and suspect.

I live in a suburb of Los Angelos and watch people die everyday on the news because of racism . If you think it's no big deal , please come visit and feel free to sharing with everyone how funny your jokes are . I'll keep 911 on speed dial but police sometimes afraid to come to this area without riot vehicle fueled . It's no joking here , you can get our news on the Internet an seeing for yourself . People who think it's all good have limited life experience and maybe nice fast police force to be protecting them .

True, but from my experience I just find it hard to believe they were serious, and if they were so what? Played online games for well over a decade on both console and PC, and I can say that I've never encountered somebody actually being serious about racism. Lots of jokes, but nothing serious. It's more than likely just dark humor, like Panda suggested. Some of us are sensitive to it while some are not. Those who are should click the report/ignore button. Can't go throughout life all huffy and puffy about the little stuff, especially something from the internet. Trolls be trollin'.

Actually there ARE some serious offenders on the internet, and MMOs are no exception. Stalking, harassment, sexually explicit ne'er-do-wells... Can't always assume *** that happens online isn't serious, otherwise you're set up to get burned.

One can get hardened by the internet life, but that hardness just means we have the necessary motivation to stop people that are bent on doing harm, one way or another...

My point is it is a big deal and a real problem in society today . For those that thinking it's dark comedy , if you believe things that kill people in the real world are funny , you probably have no exposure to the negativity of its reality . Socially detached living in fantasy world not just playing in one . I don't want anyone ever being hurt because racist , but it can get you hurt for reals an be careful . A group of the famous white hood people were in my town recently for parade and got jumped by whole neighborhood , police could not protect them , too many attackers . Such a shame an waste of life being angry people imo .

I just witnessed the group you're talking about, and it seems they are only growing in size (within five minutes of standing in town three people bought and dyed the armour to join).

While I understand you can just report and mute/ignore them, it doesn't change the fact that it makes it near impossible to trade in zone chat there. And it's extremely uncomfortable to see how they circle around (with the torch emote out) redguard characters trying to trade, shop, and hang out on the rock.

I like the voice chat.. Im never in the area chat coz theres always someone playing loud dubstep (i like dubstep but not when thru a game chat) or someone screaming out random stuff in a language I dont know. Guild Chat and Group chats are my friends.. I got a feeling there will be much more stupidity, racism, flaming and what not once text chat is added to the PS4..

This. Racism is despicable and has no place in life or in game. Behaviour or language that stinks of hate should be challenged and shown up as unacceptable; ignoring it or saying 'it's a joke' is not enough as it effectively condones it. And no I'm not a special snowflake, nor a millenial, but I do find racism disgusting. I hope the people doing this are banned.

I hear people say f*g this f*g that all the time in area chat/group chat in PvP. I find this extremely offensive. I've reported people several times but ZOS response is that I should just block them... Like WTF?! They should be temporary banned and if that language happens again it should be a permanent ban. I go ham on people who use either racist or homophobic slurs openly. NOT on my watch!
