STOP TREATING MMO AS CHARITY !

Man, I see so many people complaining about MMO's lately... and with paying for name changes and stuff like that - of course they're gonna cost money.

MMO's, like every game or a company that makes them is A BUSINESS! and a BUSINESS means making profit.

Now, the companies who make these MMO's know that no game will last forever which is a sad truth but the truth none the less... so, they need to spectate whats going on every now and then and every time the game becomes a bit less popular - they find other ways to balance the profits against the people who left the game and stretch the life of the game just a bit more.

I mean, I run a business of my own and I feel like some of ya'll complaints about things costing money is like some customer will come to me and say - hey man, u made this graphics design for me a year ago... now change everything for free please?

No one owes anyone a thing - they need to pay bills, pay their employees and drive a fancy car while doing so (no sarcasm).

have a great day everybody! :)

TL;DR - If you got this far without reading the entire post you're either too lazy or suck at reading comprehension and probably don't belong in a public forum anyway. Just move along, you wouldn't understand.

You're right but lets face it - with the out dated looks and feel of the game - i don't think ESO will have plenty of years of success to come. I do believe the peak of its success is behind them and now they are doing what they can to profit... and yeah, even if it means being greedy. "dignity" plays no role for successful businesses.

It's a big problem in any industry that sells products that are constantly on. If I were to buy a couch and burned a hole in it, I'm not calling customer service. If I buy a chicken sandwich and they forget my BBQ sauce, I'm not going to report a trouble ticket. But if NFL Redzone isn't working at 1PM on a fall Sunday you better believe I'm calling AT&T in a panic.

MMOs and ESO specifically follow a similar path. I've seen people demand refunds on here when the server is down for 2 hours. I've also seen posters admit to not buying DLC and get angry that it's not just given out too. I've even seen people declare injustices because something cost $30 instead of their arbitrarily determined cost of fairness.

At the end of the day you just got to realize that much of it is keyboard hero nonsense said by people who wouldn't dare say things like they do online to people in real life. It's also because a lot of ESO's customers aren't full fledged adults who realize that the world isn't going to cater to their every whim.

    TLDR: Get off my lawn.

That's a really good point of view. I guess its way too easy to complain behind a keyboard then it would with other type of services. And yeah I guess some of ESO's fans are small children... althought I always kinda hoped the majority of this game's players are adults.

or maybe they're just people with actual lives that don't involve sitting on their ass giving away money on every little thing they want.

Some people just want to play the game, others want stuff to actually play. Either way ZOS is the one responsible for the communities backlash at their price gouging and lack of playable content.

Yawn, another "Whatever ZOS does is right because capitalism" thread. This sort of reasoning makes a ton of assumptions. Discussions of pricing policies by the people who actually play the game can be a constructive thing. Marketers don't always get pricing right in MMOs, especially if they run out of fluffy kittens to sacrifice before lunch break.

The market sets the price. If ZOS puts something up for sale, and someone buys it then it was the right price. If not enough people buy things they will have sales.

What I don't get is when people say ZOS is evil for wanting to pay their employees while turning a profit.

This reminds me of another board I frequent where someone said a pro wrestler should retire due to not winning enough fake fights despite the fact that they are on TV every week and make reportedly 200k a year to lose fake matches.

keyboard hero nonsense said by people who wouldn't dare say things like they do online to people in real life.

That statement is kind of like "old popcorn" .. stale.

A lot of businesses find online meetings more productive than RL meetings. People seem to me more involved in the discussion. Just because I won't say it in your face, doesn't mean it is a bad thing.

we have a sign in our establishment that states " buying parts from us is a lot like buying oats. if you want clean, fresh oats, you must pay a fair price. if you want oats that have already been through the cow, then the price would be considerably less"

simple supply and demand. if people would stop paying crazy prices, then the prices would come down. but as long as people are willing to spend crazy amounts of money on vanity transactions, then be prepared for zos to milk it for all it is worth.

I work for a company that sells online meeting services (amongst other things). I've been on thousands of webinars in my life. I even wrote an article that will be getting published a week from Tuesday on reservationless conference calling just yesterday.

The only benefits of online meetings are being able to disseminate information to a hundred people at once and dramatically saving on travel costs. However if you think online meetings are more productive than real life meetings then chances are you're that guy in the office who no one likes but you don't know it yet.

Not necessarily true, this is more true for the new world though, in Europe there is still a sense of honor and dignity and what is considered acceptable or even admirable in the US is a no-go in Europe and be considered bad business.

The art style of ESO is a matter of taste - it is not at the highest state-of-the-art standards, that is true, but it has it's own feel to it and it looks familiar to TES fans - much like Oblivion, just a bit better - but it has a similar look and feel to it and that feels like "coming home". And the "fog" in the distance has even nostalgic value, it feels a bit like Morrowind, the atmosphere of it in some places.

It should be reasonable - like I would not have used the race change (in a bundle with name change) if there would not have been a crown sale as well - so it was 14€ for me and I used that to get me an Orc lady from a spare Khajiit I had. I had a problem with her chest - it turned out to be bigger on an Orc lady than on a Khajiit, and I did not realize that before I saved, so it took me another 4€ to correct that and make her chest a lot smaller. It's funny in a way, but I am just not able to play a character with big boobs, this feels so weird to me.

Yeah, basically people are starting to line up in two categories: People who own business' and people who work for business'.

The people who own a business or small business or understand free market concepts get that there should be a fair exchange, time = money.

The people who have just been underpaid overworked employees with no concept of how to run a business think that they are owed more from other sectors of society i.e 'meh gamez shuld be free'

This is the very essence of what we are seeing today around us. We must not allow the workers to unite ;)

All a matter of perspective - a friend of ours makes a living from virtual hair - running a big brand hair shop in second life for many years. She is very well off, even a hairstyle costs less than a US$ and a full bundle with all colors is less 2 US$. She has a huge variety of hairstyles for all purposes and pretty much all are flexible - really good quality. She has a lot of regular customers, in the hundreds of thousands, this is what a successful business with virtual hair can be like.

Edit: I just realized that she is running that business now for nearly a decade already - wow, how fast time flows.
