Plenty of small groups possible. The 8vs8 battle in DAoC actually destroyed a huge part of its community. I dont see a problem with zergs or raids.

Even an organized retreat will surely mean the death of quite a lot of peeps. But it should allow some to disengage and mount their presumably 70%+ speed horses.
If you just shatter and rout... Well then lots of people die in a big mess. Its called steamrolling for a reason. Of course 50 peeps are going to steamroll a small force that doesnt have scouts out and cant retreat.
No, clearly you dont know where to begin.I just...what?
I don't even know where to begin with this one.
1. You can't mount if you're in combat for an absurd amount of time.
2. Wanting to disengage from a fight SHOULD be possible. Right now, it isn't.
3. Scouts? Like, players shouting things out in /zone? What?
4. I'm not arguing that they'll "steamroll" a small group if the group decides to fight, I'm arguing that "running away" should be an option.

I have no idea what situation you had when those 50 people came and steamrolled you, but I can bet anything that what you did when they came was not an organized disengagement. Its was a complete rout. I guessing everyone ran in every direction and promptly got slaughtered. So if we number it:
1. Disengaging sort of assumes getting out of combat, doesnt it? Otherwise you'd still be in combat. And when you get out of combat, you can mount. An organized retreat would have a significant part of the force trying to go out of combat while the rest delay the enemy.
2. Of course it is. I had a 1on1 yesterday and I got him down to 10% then the *** went invisible and ran away. I never did find him again because a couple of of his friends came and I had to stealth and back off too. If you're like 5 people wanting to disengage from 50 people that just rode in on top of you... yeah... good luck with that.
3. You dont know what scouting is? Oh dear. I can give you a hint: its not using the godawful zone chat.
4. You seem to be arguing that magically escaping impossible odds when engaging a vastly numerically superior foe should be an option.
If you're going to destroy smaller numbers ability to combat zergs (6 target AoE cap), please for the love of god give us a reliable way to disengage from them.
I'm tired of my small group fighting another small group just to have a 50 man zerg roll up on horses and steamroll us. I really enjoy the PvP in this game but this is a very frustrating and common occurrence. I just want to be able to run from them if the need should arise.
So far, all you've done is force zerging as the only option for PvP. If there are no plans to allow for other playstyles, I'd rather go back to DAoC where speedwarps and SoS allow for guaranteed disengage.
Thanks

The death of DAoC's community had nothing to do with 8v8 as a playstyle. It had to do with server clustering, lack of official forums, and a terrible LFG system. Elitism reigned supreme. I'm not going to dive deeper into DAoC's community death so that's all I'll say on that subject.

Honestly they need to have a skill line dedicated to Crowd Control. A simple skill like an AoE Mez - 3-5 second cast and has a large radius (think of Volley) that can't be broken unless you wait 25 seconds or take damage would do wonders in this game.
