The Making of a Master Crafter

Hi All,

I've been working on some guides online (mostly crafting) that are useful, mobile-friendly, and reminiscent of those old game manuals included with our favorite RPG games of the past.

I have completed my first complete draft of my mastercrafter article that is written like a build guide with a crafting twist.

http://benevolentbowd.ca/esotu/esotu-the-making-of-a-master-crafter/

I'm just a hobby blogger and not a professional writer so any constructive feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks!

This post covered some things I hadn't even thought of and I really like the tips/recommendations in the grey boxes. There are some items under Champion Points that I will be implementing tonight.

    Some things I might add:

Under many crafters or one, you might want to mention that a benefit of multiple characters is that you can trade crafted items between characters. (I know you mention it under leveling, but this is actually an important factor to choosing one or more crafters)

Under traits, you might want to mention there are skills that allow you to reduce research time and research and more than one item at a time.

Under leveling, you might want to mention inspiration gains from fulfilling writs and the possibility of getting an intricate item.

Under traits, I don't know if I agree completely about nirnhoned being the last trait to be researched. Nirnhoned items can bring in lots of gold. This could be a good way to supplement any crafting supplies you need.

Great feedback. I'll en corporate all the above tips to the guide. With regards to Nirnhoned, I was thinking more from a perspective of gearing yourself or friends. You are right, there is demand for nirnhoned items especially for research.

    Thanks again.

I disagree on nirn for one reason trail gear is starting to drop nirn trained gear so the gold for nirn research items will be droping

    A typo:
the Hasty Retreat uses up an ability slot while Hasty Retreat is triggered by a roll-dodge.

About one or many crafters: I prefer now to talk about main crafter and helper crafters. Even when having multiple, one should be the main crafter. The main crafter has priority in learning new stuff. Give every new motif and recipe first to main crafter and only duplicates or cheap stuff to helpers. People usually regret having crafting knowledge split between multiple characters.

Splitting gear crafting initially (e.g. light crafter, medium crafter) is beneficial, but eventually they get consolidated to main crafter. So it is a practical and career issue, not a permanent choice. Please understand that "eventually" means a year or two. Splitting alchemy and provisioning to a helper saves skill points, although crafting bag made it less attractive.

I have all recipes learned on my secondary crafter. It's not a terrible mistake, but if i would start from scratch, i would only go the main crafter route.

So with current experience i have, i would scrap completely the idea about single/multiple/hybrid. Instead, have one main crafter. But do make more helper crafters like cook, potion maker and do writs with them.

edit: I have covertible laptop and i use it mostly in vertical layout like a tablet. The site margins take half of the space and text gets very narrow.

I only have 1 character for PVE, PvP, and crafting. If you don't grind out crafting and just go after sp, you can do it which, from my perspective, is nice because I don't ever have to switch to make new gear, pots, food, etc. Makes the game seamless.

I'm at 324 sp, need about 20 more to be 100% covered in ever skill and passive.

You could point out that many people, me included, have mastered all crafts on their main character. It is feasible to do it, there are plenty of skill points available to max out while still having a combat capable character.

Love this. As a novice crafter trying to develop a couple of characters through role-play, I think the guide is really helpful. Good layout and easy to read. The use of drawings and artwork is a nice touch.

"As indicated, this perk [plentiful harvest] only works with normal nodes and not the special ones found at crafting survey sites."

This is false. Writ surveys can double as well, so you get 4 alchemy ingredients from one plant, or double the mats from equipment mat nodes.

Otherwise a nice guide, I'm a dedicated crafter myself, and it's always nice to see someone else as enthusiastic about the whole gathering, crafting and hoarding aspect as myself.

I'm surprised you have a specific crafters set of equipment though, I rarely actively go out 'farming' mats, as that would be tedious and boring. Most of the time I just do whatever it is I do, picking up things on the go. Other times I go exploring in, say, Wrothgar and kill mobs, gather things I see, but not in a way that is especially systematic. I find that it helps keep me interested and motivated, as an hour of simply 'farming' would probably feel more like work than fun, at least to me.

I have corrected the plentiful harvest section. This came from an earlier guide before the update that made plentiful harvest work on all nodes.

With regards to gear sets, the gear section of the guide is optional as there are no sets at this time that benefit crafting. However, there are crafters who actively harvest mats for their own use, to refine for improvement items, for trade, for sale, etc.. I have revised this section to make it clearer that it is a recommendation for those who like to do harvest runs.
