DW passives and Overload

If you are a dual wielding sorc, is the twin blade and blunt passive still taken into account when you pop Overload? I've been getting mixed answers.

Yes they do. I just ran a dungeon with them and yes they do. Hope this helps

No, it doesn't.

In the following tests on the PTS, I do Mages' Fury on a dual sword bar then change to Power Overload and then light attack once and do another Mages' Fury. In the first case, I have 0 points in Twin Blade and Blunt and in the second case I have 2 points in Twin Blade and Blunt. You see that the damage of Mages' Fury is increased by around 5% when I'm on the dual sword bar. But the damage is unchanged when going to Power Overload.

2 points in Twin Blade and Blunt. First Mages' Fury casted with dual sword bar is increased by 5% but damage of Power Overload light attack and Mages' Fury casted from Overload bar is unchanged.

Well that changes everything. Doesn't this mean that a sorc could use any sharpened Elegance weapon? There is no reasonto be on a duel wield bar for a sorc, except maybe for the execute, mages fury but other wise it is a buff/liquid lightning bar that you always switch back to destro after using.

You are forgetting the additional spell damage from the offhand weapon.

NO. Overload bar is not weapon bar You using Your hands to deal dmg not Your weapons so weapon passives not working. I tested dmg of overload with axes , daggers and swords and all was the same with twin blade and blunt 2 points spended. That's why i laugh at people who spend 1 milion gold for elegant swords when i get exact the same dmg with axes which are 10x cheaper

I tested it with every weapon same things happen to 2 handers there is no difference in dmg between each weapon type on overload bar and after killing enemy Your stamina regen is not going up. You can test it simple way. Spend points into twin blade and blunt , craft 2 white non set swords and axes and check dmg of overload 1st with swords and then with axes and belive me dmg will be exact the same.

The Twin Blunt and Blade passive DOES NOT apply when in Overload.

The only things that carry over in Overload is:

Traits on the weapon (Sharpened/Precise/Defending/etc)
Weapon and Spell Damage from your current weapons where your Overload is located
Weapon and Spell Critical from your current weapons where your Overload is located

What? What are you talking about? I am not, the additional spell damage doesn't mater at least 80% of the time, as you will be on a destro staff for force pulse. The only time it would matter is what I mentioned, for execute and that is it. Other wise you are on the destro staff or in overload. So you would lose 5%(if you use any other duel weapon but swords) on mages fury but you would gain 20% in overload if you have the elegance set. Personally, I would run julinanos and kena and then elegant jewelry and duel wield back bar.

i use torugs swords for my dw bar and willpower jewelry. Is elegance really worth the trade?

I'm not sure it would be for most people. (even if you did manage to get the elegance swords)
5% loss from DW (with axes, maces, or daggers for execute only)... but you also lose 190ish SP from willpower + 129 from torugs - that's well over 300 spell power total and you only get back 129 from elegance (trading for torugs) and maybe 400 extra magicka.

Yes you get 20%, a big increase, for overload.... but in most cases i guess i don't use overload to kill everything in a dungeon.
it still hits pretty hard for me without elegance (around 34k per crit?) and i use it only when i know a big boss is coming up so i save my ultimate for a while (on console there is no way to know how much)

for me it's situational (definitely not worth millions of gold)... i prefer to use meteor for most things i guess.

Edit: The spell damage carries over but the passive doesn't. The passive doesn't increase spell damage, it increases the damage of the ability. That's why the spell damage carries over but the bonus damage from the passive doesn't.

Elegance also applies to light/medium/heavy staff attacks. And in the case of maelstrom weapons, you get additional damage to those light/heavy attacks with wall of elements. +20% to every 8k medium weave is a lot of damage.

With that in mind, 5x elegance, 5x whatever, 2x wisdom/torugs swords and 1x maelstrom staff can work pretty well. I use that setup in maelstrom (with julianos) to maximize overload

To keep this relevant, Twin blade and blunt is also lost when transforming to werewolf

how can you have the 5p bonus of elegance on your destro bar if two pieces of the set are on a different bar... i always thought that dropped off when you switched bars?

Now that I think about it. If you go the route of dual wielding elegant weapons, what traits would be best? Both sharpened, both precise, or one of each? Thank you, everyone, for the quick responses. You've been a great help.

For DPS, always sharpened, then precise.

I prolly will never beat vMA, so that destro is out. So right now I have a dead slot for my destro using willpower+ julinanos+ a monster set. So if I could get four piece on my front bar ( elegant destro) and and the five piece with the 20% more damage for overload, I think I will be ahead.

I know for A FACT that previously, the passive from 2H and the passive of DW swords DID increase the damage from spells. Did this change? Maybe, but it did in the past.

The spell damage carries over but the passive doesn't. The passive doesn't increase spell damage, it increases the damage of the ability. That's why the spell damage carries over but the bonus damage from the passive doesn't.

I'm in the middle of a move, so I have no means of testing plus I'm on the ps4 so it's not as efficient at PC's add ons, but does the passives from the destruction staff flow to overload (example: increased spell penetration)? I ask because I was thinking 4 overwhelming, two turog, two molag kena and five elegant. Thoughts?

I don't think so as it specifically mentions destro staff skills-

WITH DESTRUCTION STAFF EQUIPPED Allows your Destruction Staff spells to ignore 10% of an enemy's Spell Resistance.

What do use on your duel bar for damage? The only skill that I use on that bar AND stay on that bar is mages fury. You get 129 SD and 2 900ish max mana from Elegance.

So willpower + torags is 129+189 = 318 SD bolus 1400 mana which is around 147 SD before buffs. So it is around 465 SD.

Now Elegance is 129 SD plus 2x900 mana which is around 200 SD, so together it is 329ish SD.

So you lose around 130 effective spell power for everything else but it is worth it for overload, personally mine went from around 38k self buffed with willpower and torugs to over 46k with Elegance self buffed. That is a big difference.

1jul sword, 1 elegeant sharpaned/precise
3 elegant jewl,
1 elegant body,
2 piece kena.

On overload, proc kena and the numbers are very nice. 55k crit on guards, with no shadow mundus, I had 1 precise weapon (sharpened is more dmg), imagine with shadow mundus and warhorn up. Also better CP distribution - I had some into blessed - healing done.

What are your CP? I have this exact setup and I have only seen 46-48k self buffed crits.

@jakeedmundson you mentioned there is no way to know ultimate level on Console? Not true they added metres and % bar options two patches ago, TG DLC I think.

Check your options. I had to turn them all on

@Lightspeedflashb14_ESO just the standard CP, 100 into Ele expert, rest into spell crit and thaum.

Note I think the crem guards have low resistances bc I noticed my attacks do more to them then the other enemies.

On a side note, I just tested Kvatch Gladiator while in Overload with the Stam Sorc I'm leveling and it added 4200 damage per light attack while in execute range (12.8K to 17K per light attack roughly) while grinding in Old Orsinium. Not sure if its going to be essentially a flat 4200 or if it increases damage by roughly 1/3, but it definitely makes a difference.

how much exactly into elfborn? i only have around 14%. the rest into thaum and i have a sharpened elegant maul, so it ought to hitting harder right?
