Level 8 Redguard Sorcerer (Daggerfall Covenant)

I have already reported this player and I posted a new MOTD on my guild page asking others to report the player also, It would also be great for other players on here to report and spread the word about this person. Here's what happened:

The scammer messaged me politely asking me if I could help him/her get a new horse, and because i'm nice and have a fair bit of gold, I decided to help (as ive had no troubles before). I asked the player to follow me to the stables and initiated the trade, gave the 10k gold and accepted. Once the trade was complete, the player summoned his horse (that he already had) and made a run for it with my gold. Now while I did laugh slightly, it was still a bit annoying. I messaged the person, telling them that although I had plenty of gold, I have a guild of 400+ members that I could have report you for being a scammer, and that reputation is big in ESO so please, if you wouldn't mind giving it back (even though you probably wont) I would appreciate it.

I'm aware its my fault and that I shouldn't trust people but these things happen, and unfortunately, I got stung. Its a good thing I'm a high level player because this probably would've been worse for someone else. Just a heads up for everyone. Thanks for reading my post.

Unfortunately there are people like this, which is why I don't gift people I don't know with anything, even if they look or act like a brand new player.

Even out of the legit new players, many of them end up quitting the game within a month when something new and shiny comes out.

I have no problem helping people who let me get to know them! Or if they need help learning things, or want healed through their first dungeon.

But people who beg for horse money are on my ignore list.

How do you know he didn't use the money to buy the horse and then summon it and ride away? You said you were in the stable at the time you traded him the gold right? How long was it after you closed the trade window that he summoned the horse? How long would it of taken him to open the window with the vendor and buy the horse?

I had something similar a while back, someone I did not know approached me and asked if they could have 1k gold as they wanted to respec their skills. When I asked why they had approached me as I did not know them, the response came back that he/she was simply asking everyone who came by, so I ignored them.

Literally the second the trade ended, he summoned a horse and left. Blandine the Stable master was not close enough to talk to.

Fortunately, my guild mates came to my aid and chipped together to repay me the gold that I was scammed for. Guilds are awesome!

With the game being such that your characters are thieves, this behavior seems appropriate.

Heck, even Zos is scamming everyone with high priced race and name changes, even they use a Thieves Guild playstyle.

Its more about the concept that he is going around scamming people. I've learned after asking him to give it back that he is using it for his higher level character to buy a ring of agility. And he has just at this very moment, asked my guild mate the very same question as he is unaware she is my friend. Asking her for 10k to buy a horse. I told her to follow him as he ran passed me. If you want proof, i'll give it right now

You should be banned or communication banned for threatening to have others LIE and report him.

He scammed you. You can report him. Any one else reporting him would be doing so falsely.

Regardless of OP using his personal army to report this one guy i do agree that the scammer has to be taken care of one way or another because he is gonna keep doing it to less unfortunate people.

Your right it is very pathetic for people to run around scamming others. You must scam others as well if you are defending such actions. Not sure how much of a story you think the other side could possibly have. People attempt to scam others non stop in this game and I have no pity for any of them. They should be reported and banned for scamming. To take advantage of someone's good will is extremely pathetic and in no way should be encouraged.

Because you were robbed? It's only in game money, not real one.

People, it's only a game. So, the only one who should be upset is your char, not YOU.

Find the char, destroy him with the chars from your guild. RP it. That is what guilds do with such chars.

But don't take it into RL. It's not worth it.

That sucks! I have been asked for things from random people. I Always tell them to earn it on their own. Nobody gave me anything in this game and I never asked anyone for anything. I put the time in and earned it. Now if your in my guild that's another story, I'm always happy to help my fellow guild members.

Let's assume the story is legit, asking random people to report someone based on an accusation and no factual proof doesn't really hold up for much.

I do play on xbox 1, but I've yet to scam anyone. 2 people accuse me of being a scammer becaue I state my opinion?

Don't dude. Victims share no fault of the wrong doing. You express good character in showing a willingness to trust and help out a seemingly new player. If I were that person I would have been grateful for your help in getting me a mount. I remember over a year ago when I started, 10k was SO MUCH gold to me. Even though you were scammed by one of those common griefers who wouldn't surprise me if they were big into CoD, you still did the right thing in being a friendly, generous player.

If we're in the same server, hope to run into you someday, but since you're Covenant, it would have to be in Cyrodiil.

On Xbox, you can send voice clips via the messaging system. My guildmates and I were hanging out in Rawl'ka when several of us got messages moments apart. It was a sultry female voice talking about how she had totally messed up her character and could we spare 15k gold for her to respec? The messages were word-for-word identical. It was actually hilarious to us, we were imitating that recording for the rest of the night. But some people probably thought it was genuine.

But there are a lot of guys who send their girlfriends to Rawl'ka voice chat to beg or sell things, so you expect that sort of thing there. Some of them even admit that it's their boyfriend's account!

If you were prepared to give someone 10k, why do you care what they spent it on? A gift is a gift - once you've given it, you no longer control what happens to it. If you don't want to give 10k away then don't.

Probably a useful lesson for life as well as in game tbh.

I really don't see why they did this. You said you are Guild master with plenty of gold, what do 10k matter to you other than it is a little scratch on your pride - see it from the positive side, it taught you a lesson for life for a very cheap price. In EVE there are plenty of scammers in Jita - this is basically known. One day I saw a scammer who said something like this - "Well, I am too lazy to make up a story to get your money. Save yourself time and just give it to me, I am just asking for 50 million. If I would make up a story and you would have to think about it, it would cost your time - so just give it to me" - I laughed out loud and I gave it to him, because he was straight forward honest.

This scheme was later copied by many - but they made it more complicated and started a conversation with "do you appreciate honesty?". of course I did not react to that anymore - I paid the first one, because of it's entertainment value to "invent" this successful scheme.

Edit: it was 50 million, not 50,000 - the price of a tech 1 battle cruiser - not a big deal.

This is a pretty common scam. It is really crap that anyone does it. I recommend looking up scamming non ESO on YouTube to educate yourself on the different scams in ESO, how to identify them, and avoid them in the future.
