P.S.: I'm kind of wondering about context here. I started using Dampen Magic in my melee MagBlade build and I'm REALLY liking it. Granted, it's only effective if I keep it on my front bar and use it almost "rotationally".

Here's what I'm wondering: Is this an effective 1v1 tactic in a solo ganking build? I really like the playstyle, but I'm hesitant to invest too much more if it's just going to be a study in frustration.

I have a ranged DPS/healing build for group play, but I just wanted to know if y'all think a melee/shield build makes an effective 1v1 fighter.

    Thanks in advance! :)

For a class that used a skill like cloak, that lasts 3 secs... a shield for six secs is like "OMG, what are you complaining about sorcs?"

On top of all that shield. You also get the three second stealth, you can send three enemies running away screaming, and you get some of the best passives in the game (8% max Magicka. We have to double slot a toggle to get that!)

Magicka nightblades are all around awesome.

Nightblades (especially if you are going Magicka), have some of the best passives in the gam. period.

Magblade with staves dstro/resto or even with duals/resto

You can deal a lot of dmg and have incredible sustain, best juking tools available, best self sustain tool with siphonin attacks, fastest ultimate regen, your playstyle can be under heavy lag and lots of self made mistakes and it will still be forgiving.

Magicka sorcerers are good too and very very bursty but I find them to be extremelly reliant on quick and intensive weapon swaping due to your shields that need to be recasted at all times, this is what drove me away from being more active on mine. Laggy environment and high ms makes magicka sorcerers a pain in the ass to play as you dont get away as much compared to for example a magblade.

Stam sorcs are unique and very fun, takes a bit to get to play them the right way. Right now if you'd ask me Id play the stamina version over the magicka one without a doubt.

Cloak is broken though. :( Sorc shields are way stronger because they are consistent and guaranteed damage mitigation where cloak is a buggy gamble.

Melee snb mageblade is fun and the most like a magicka DK out of the others, moreso than magplar even. Mageblade can do anything. It's a blast.

If you tell me how you like to play I can help you put a build together for your individual play style.

Read this thread where I helped another guy, and answer the questions that I asked him. They're spread throughout a few different comments.

You mind helping me out with my build too mate?
I usually play solo or in small groups, I like do duel too. I'm more of a in your face player than one Standing at the back using ranged attacks, that's why I love heavy armor s&b magDK's so much  I wanna be tanky but I don't expect to 1v10 but 1v2 or 3 should be doable but I also want to be able to kill someone  Maybe heavy armor s&b? If you could help me with this I'd be really thankful
My altmer magblade is currently lv21,I'm at CP cap and I can craft up to 8 traits, can make my own glyps and food/drinks/potions but I dont have any maelstrom or master weapons.

Neither sorc atm is broken, I get mowed down in seconds with 20k shield and 20k life, and this worse in lag because you cant shield stack, best play sorc the zerg and drop negates on groups. My stam sorc is no good mostly because I cant get close to a zerg/group even though its an aoe build and was obv designed that way because of hurricane but it has no way surving to aoe groups even with shuffle quick cloak dodge rolls doesn't help and stam regen is a big prob. Mag blade is ok if you want to be proxy bomber/ sapper and prob better than the sorc. This why mist ppl are playing dk, stamblades or magicka Templar bots that you cant kill without a few players.
All the whiners have broken sorc and there are no good alternative builds so its our turn to whine now.

@devilsTear how much damage do you wish to be doing? Think back to how you played mDK. What did you run on it? How attached are you to snb on the mageblade? A heavy armor destro resto mageblade is still pretty tanky when up in people's faces, but it does more damage and has greater sustain than a snb mageblade because of the destro weaves.

Watch this video here to see my heavy armor destro mageblade's play style and let me know if it's something you're interested in: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jzx2p1rKLtk

Basically I want to get a feel for how many people you want to yolo into on your mageblade, and how much damage you want to output. Keep in mind how tanky people are building tanky these days.

Nice video, I've watched it before on YouTube  that looks like something I want to do.
The reason for s&b is basically because I use it on my magDK, my magDK needs it and I thought a magblade needed it too but I'll switch to destro resto if that is a better idea. On my magDK I run
    2p bloodspawn
    5p tava's favor
    2p Torug's Pact front bar
    2p endurance back bar

I don't really know how much damage I '' should'' be doing really  should I become a vamp or is that not needed? The extra regen and bats are pretty good on my magDK so I'm inclined to think it's good for a magblade too but I don't know anything about them.
Thx man, I really appreciate the help

@devilsTear ok read my posts on this thread regarding destro resto, think it over, and let me know where you're leaning. 5 Magnus 1 Kena 2 torugs would be enough sustain in heavy to use all damage glyphs comfortably. Kags would give you health, but less sustain. You'd likely need to swap out a jewelry glyph, which would be a net loss in damage. I run 5 heavy kags with a maelstrom resto for the extra magicka sustain from rapid regen. It's 240 magicka regen equivalent, so if you don't have that, the 5pc set would be the most efficient place to make an accommodation.

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/278614/magicka-nightblade-crafted-pvp-gear/p1

5 kags or Magnus with 2 engine guardian and 2 torugs snb bar would be great, but you'd have a lonely 1pc resto staff. That would only matter if you put swallow soul back there to weave with, which is only necessary if you use concealed in your snb bar. Here's a thread where I talked sap tank:

@KenaPKK awesome mate, both sound appealing to me but I'm gonna try out heavy armour/destro/resto first  what bars do you run or did I read over it?
*edit* on second thought I might try sap tanking first since I'll prolly tank in pve too with him. Is s&b destro also viable or do I really need healing ward and rapid regen?

@devilsTear yes, actually desrto snb is viable. It's just much harder to play. I'd been experimenting with it before I went offline a while back. You would replace healing ward with annulment and use it to let your hots heal you under it. It's less forgiving, though, because you don't get the small heal on cast like you do with healing ward and the shield is smaller than healing ward at low health, and because you give up a massive hot in rapid regen, and because you lose a lot of your ability to heal yourself away from combat... Very unforgiving just go gain excess to some more blocking and defense posture. You realize how important that little heal on cast is when you go without ward, and the rest is self-explanatory.

Also what are you looking to tank in PvE with your mageblade? I ask because I've tanked everything short of trials with my destro resto setup. Heck, I've soloed most of the pledge dungeons, including the entirety of vICP past the flesh sculptor boss. Unless you're looking to do the updated trial content, you won't need snb. I can help you either way. Trial tanking is super fun on nb.

    Bars for destro resto PvP:
Destro - entropy/sap essence, swallow soul, impale/cloak, merciless resolve, fear, soul harvest
Resto - siphon attacks, rapid regen, healing ward, flex

Those last spots on the resto staff come down to play style. I use mark, cripple, and devouring swarm most often. Sometimes I swap to meteor, soul tether, mist form, double take, refreshing path, or whatever's useful in the moment. I do not usually use cloak, but dark cloak is the way to go if you like it. I use sap essence if I'm alone in IC just to get through mobs faster. Otherwise, that health multiplier on structured entropy is too juicy to pass up. Applying entropy on multiple people is also a strong source of ambient heals.

Bars for snb (or dw) resto aggressive PvP:
Snb - lotus fan, concealed weapon, cloak, sap essence/cripple, fear, soul harvest
Resto - siphon attacks, swallow soul, merciless resolve, healing ward, mark/entropy/flex, soul tether/bats/meteor

You can put entropy back bar if you don't like sap essence front bar. I prefer cripple front bar when I play dw or snb if I'm not in a group because I have little need for AoE damage. If you go without sap or entropy, you'll need spell power potions. Shade is also fun to use, but situational. I find the ranged reach from swallow soul and the burst from merciless to be indispensable.

Bars for destro snb PvP are super down to play style. I've not refined my preferences yet. Here are suggestions:
Destro - entropy/cripple/flex, swallow, impale, merciless, fear, soul harvest
Snb - annulment, defensive posture, refreshing path, blur, sap essence/mark/flex, soul tether/meteor/bats

To run snb instead of resto, you need a morph of annulment. Going without a shield of any kind leaves you susceptible to burst. I also have a hard time justifying the swap without slotting a morph of defensive posture. Fear can be on either bar, you could use entropy or sap on either bar...you'll find yourself able to move abilities around a lot. Just remember that the entire purpose of using destro is to use it as your main offensive bar. If you start favoring snb as your main bar, you should just use resto with it.

@KenaPKK thanks mate that's very useful info for me  I'll mainly tank the normal and vet dungeons just to get my undaunted up, I have a dk tank that I do dungeons with and I just started using in trials.

@devilsTear tank it with the heavy armor destro resto setup once you unlock inner fire. Replace impale with that on the bars I gave you, and you're good to go. The heavy armor and bonus healing that you receive is plenty to tank the damage. Pledge dungeons are easy.

That will push your limits with the destro resto setup and play style, helping you to determine if you like it and preparing you for playing it in PvP should you decide to do so. Also it's the strongest setup for soloing dungeons, so it'll get you on your way to doing that. Good luck. :)

Magicka NB = Burst in melee + range with self heal + really good escape cloak and hysteria, but very squishy if you can't run away

Magicka Sorc = Burst over time range + king of escape + tankier than Magblade +

The funniest to play is the MagBlade (the best for trolling) and you can be very tanky OR healer OR DPS, but this is not the most efficient in 1 vs X and for the RvR.

1 VS X : Magicka Templar (God like but hard to kill sb) > Magicka Dk (long fight) > Stam Dk (shorter fight than magDK) > MagSorc (temporise and looking for a burst occasion) ...

    1 VS 1 :
Stamina Dk > Magicka Templar > Magicka Sorc ...

Burst : Stamblade > Magicka Sorc > Two Shots Stam build archer > Alchemist build ...

    Group Utility RvR :
MagPlar > MagSorc (Negate) > tanky build > Deto + VD MagBlade > the rest of Magicka > the rest of Stamina

MagBlade is very good if no one can see you for burst them and then for hidding you.

I think MagTemplar is the most versatil and most powerful for different gameplay (IC, bomb squad, 1 vs 1, 1 vs 1 , 6 vs 6, healer RvR, Tank RvR)
