People who have characters not in native faction

What lore reason did you give your character for being in your current faction?

Does your character still have your races beliefs? Khajiit believing in jone n jode while in ep, dc, etc

Mercenary?

Raised there?

Some races are easier to explain like argonians not wanting to fight with their former master which will enslave them anyways after the three banner war ends.

Some races like altmer, who are into racial pride, or dunmer, who are more into their own culture, seem to be harder to explain.

I have only one such character and he is level 5 (Ivar in my signature).

He is a Nord in DC. He is basically an outcast who fled EP after being accused of murder against an entire family he tried to rob.

At first, he was imprisoned but he managed to escape by tricking a guard.

    Basically, he is an ***.

I intend to make a magplar tank/off-healer out of him, eventually.

I just never assumed that Akatosh was particularly careful about where he was dumping Vestiges back onto Nirn. He certainly wasn't careful about The Prophet, or he would have ended up off getting gnawed on by Slaughterfish in the Rumare.

The race restriction is lore breaking. Never in any TES game have races been restricted from being in the province, so it would logical that there would be people of all races in all factions.

this one is khajiit, this one is part of the Daggerfall Covenant, when the village was raided by bad cultist, this one fled away and never looked back. this one was strong and survived, this one found breton friends and stayed with them. this one is happy there.

A lot of my characters are not native to the faction I'm in. With the exception of the Khajiit DK I have. He was separated from his family who owned a plantation in Hammerfell mountains when he was pulled into ColdHarbour. His family was neutral towards the war. And he is on a quest to return home to them.

My Argonian NB, has amnesia. He fell from ColdHarbour and was critically injured when he washed ashore onto Khenarthi's Roost. A travelling Khajiti merchant and his wife took him in and nursed him back to health. In the short few months he spent with his adoptive family, the husband and wife were viciously murdered by two assassins from the Covenant and Pact. So he joined the Aldmeri alliance to take his revenge on the Pact and Covenant for what they did to his adoptive family.

My Dunmer Socerer couldn't really get behind following The Three. She left her unknown house in Morrowind to seek out treasure and adventure else were in the world. Getting into ColdHarbour, for her, was the perfect escape plan.

My Redguard NB use to live as a street rat in Stros M'kai. Stealing and profiting off of the luxurious Covenant merchant ships that would take pit stops to the island. As a man with no family to call his own, he was scooped up into Coldharbour on a fate full night and wound up on the shores of Auridon where he continued his day-to-day operations of being a scumbag. 1.0

My Argonian Templar, is a wondering priestly figure who travels the world in the purist to help those who need mental and physical healing.

Fleshreaper is a Orc DragonKnight in Daggerfall Covenant who's parents were crafters on board a merchant ship. The ship tried to sail around a storm was ended up getting caught up in it and blow off course. The Ebonheart Pact navy captured the ship and started executing the crew. Darkthunder a Dark Elf Nightblade's father was the admiral for the Pact navy and stopped the executions before Fleshreaper's parents could be killed. Darkthunder's father said he would take Fleshreaper's parents as slaves, to keep them from being killed. One of the other ship's captain a female Dark Elf seeing the compassion for the orc, secretly fell in love with the admiral. Once Darkthunder's father figured out that his mother was in love with him, he started to court her. But with the Pack's no fraternizing policy they both decided to retire. They moved back to Darkthunder's father's farm and started a life together. Darkthunder's father never treated Fleshreaper's parents as slaves but like guests. Fleshreaper's parents wanted a way to thank Darkthunder's parents for the kindness, so they asked if they could continue with their trade in secret. Knowing that slaves where not allowed to craft wares, they craft in secret. Darkthunder's parents would sell the wares in local market. This went on for several years, Fleahreaper's mother became pregnant and gave birth to a son. Soon after Darkthunder's parents decided to have a child and had a son as well. The two boys grew up as best friends. Just after Fleshreaper turned 17 his father passed away. Darkthunder's father thought it would be best that Fleshreaper learned about where he had come from. He figured it would be too hard for a single mother to make it on her own, so he suggested that Fleshreaper and Darkthunder go to Daggerfall, together. And so started their adventure.

Very simple: If you believe that races have stuck to their lands and only their lands you know nothing of the lore of TES. A African-American has about as much in common with an African as they do with a black rock. Snark aside...

While it isn't common to find dunmer in High Rock, and Khajiit in Skyrim, races have always existed in other land. Faction racial restrictions are much more like how our world really is. Can you point to many 'racially pure' countries?

    All my characters are EP.

Bridget, the Imperial: Goes where Feliix goes because they're a living buddy cop movie.

Feliix, the Altmer: Disgusted by the baby-eating Dominion in Shadowfen and the Covenant's attacking of innocents in Stonefalls/Bleakrock. Just wants to study in peace, and the Dunmer have a lot of stuff to study. Especially Those Wacky Telvanni (hit sitcom coming to a Mundus near you). Plus their stuck-up-ness makes him feel more at home.

I have two Khajiits but Ayy L'Meow is a joke (he probably got lost or something, idk) and Nargaku doesn't have a backstory yet.

My main's an AD Breton Sorc. Her family was killed in some kind of political row back in High Rock when she was young, and she was smuggled away and "set up" with Altmer care-givers in the Summerset Isles. She has little idea of who she really is, and has no idea who rescued her, or why. She has a distrust of the Breton culture due to how it destroyed her family, and while generally loyal to AD, doesn't really feel "at home" there either. She's mostly a lone wanderer since she set out on her own.

I have a clan of 8 Khajiit (brother, cousins, etc) who's family started out in the city of Senchal in Elsweyr. But times being what they are, the family had to move to the Baadari Trading Post because of an" incident" in Senchal. My main is an Altmer in the Pact, but as a member of the Mages Guild he maintains a neutral stance. He's originally from the Isles and prior to the start of ESO was based in the Alinor guildhall, but a series of not particularly fun events led him to re-base himself in the Davon's Watch guildhall in Morrowind.

My Altmer is a murdering sociopath with a high price on his head in Alinor. It pleases him, and his sense of superiority, to be the most powerful Mage in the Daggerfall provinces. He fights alongside the covenant in the banner wars, happily taking the lives of the Aldmeri who did not appreciate his mastery of the killing arts.

I have a Dunmer in the Dominion and her story is her father was an Altmer merchant in Morrowind and married a Dunmer woman. He was recalled to the Summerset Iles and my character was born there and raised as an Altmer. She has her mother's gray skin, height and red eyes because children look more like the mother and she has her father's brown hair. Since she grew up in the Summerset Iles she considers herself Altmer and rejects anything Dunmer and even named her horse Almalexia as an insult to the goddess.

I generally have a bit of theme in mind behind each of my characters, though I'm not an RP player. In my own mind it just gives me a sense of how I'll play the character in the storyline even if the storyline is a bit more on the rails than I would like (compared to Skyrim or Oblivion or Morrowind). This is simply my way of playing Elder Scrolls. Having said that your story about a Dunmer in the covenant is similar to a couple of the dunmer I play. My Telvanni is in the EP but like I Telvanni I imagine that he's not 'for the war' but simply interested in amassing knowledge. I have a character who was an escaped Ashlander that preferred the Altmer way of life - he spurned the Dunmer ways in entirety, and lives as a proper Aldmer should and not the heretical Dunmer. I have another Dunmer on EU (Which I am purely DC Side) and he is part Breton and part Dunmer. His name is Breton and he was raised Breton - that's his story. I have Nords who are not part of the Pact because of bad blood with the Dunmer and they are more aligned with the Western holds (like Markarth and Solitude). There are a lot of fantastic reasons why people don't necessarily live in their country of origin. If my ancestors wanted to stay in their country of origin, I would not be an American would I? Instead I'm a (Russian-Spanish-Italian-French-English-Irish-Scottish-Welsh-Dutch-Finnish-German-Austrian)-American and those are the roots that I'm aware of. I'm probably a lot more things that I'm not aware of. Why can't it be the same here? Argonians and Khajiit might be a bit more sticky for some but there are places even for them. The king of the Bosmer for instance has allowed a group of Argonians to settle in Grahtwood, the capital of the Thalmor Empire. Think about that for a moment.

Because I wanted to be Argonian, but I'd already done the Ebonheart Pact questline on an old character, so I joined the Aldmeri Dominion as Argonian instead.

But... it's kinda cool, because I like to be different and it's really rare to actually see an Argonian in AD. I always stop and take a second look whenever I see an egg sister so far from our native home.

Being different is all the lore I need really. :)

Aside from my main 4 characters that I originally created in the EP, all of the characters I currently have are base race members of their respective factions. All of them belong to the same Sellsword Company but I felt it would be better (at the time I decided to make these characters they had yet to announce One Tamriel) that I had one class in each faction to better do the achievements and end game. Now with One Tamriel I wont have to deal with that.

Ive spent the last few months building a backstory and setting for all of my characters and the Sellsword Company they belong to.

Of my 3 mains one is an Altmer in DC. I felt no real compelling reason to supply a backstory since the DC is the most mixed territory in terms of the races met. Stros M'Kai is full of Altmer. I felt it was more important to try to stick to an alliance race in EP but it was really hard making a Dunmer I liked the looks of.

I have one character in the 'incorrect' faction and he has an incredibly lengthy back-story.

    To cut it short:

He was a Hand of Almalexia, protected her against an attack from a swarm of vampires, saved her but was afflicted with vampirism. Almalexia refused to execute him as her advisers demanded; instead exiling him from her lands. It was in his travels of Auridon that he was set upon by the minions of Mannimarco and began his quest as the vestige. He serves alongside the Dominion that rescued him on his return from the Wailing Prison, and believes that the Pact has fallen away from the vision of his Lady Almalexia. Still, he does not engage the Pact in Cyrodiil, unless they are hostile towards him.

Oh, and his name is Almalexia's Fallen.

That is significantly cut short, but I don't want to bore you with pages of back-story :D

Most of my characters have ventured from the far reaches of Tamriel to serve our GLORIOUS QUEEN AYRENN and deliver the Ruby Throne to the NOBLE ALDMERI DOMINION.

My Dunmer lives in Daggerfall because she doesn't care for those of her race all that much and she keeps an eye on Emeric the Soft for our GLORIOUS QUEEN AYRENN.

My Redguard followed her older sister to Skyrim and now stands ready to report to the NOBLE ALDMERI DOMINION if Jorunn and his crew ever sober up and present a threat.

All of my characters are in different factions, most have race/class combos that are nonstandard as well. I like to play odd balls in TES games.

Argonian wizard in DC (nightblade). He's not terribly factional, and just happened to be studying in High Rock. Given his specialization in ice magic and interest in the Dwemer, he has a lot of reason to return to the Pact, but is skeptical it will last and doesn't want to be around when it collapses.

Argonian archer in AD (templar). She's an active supporter, and traveled here because they appeared to be treating the Khajiit well, but also to investigate how true this was. As a worshiper of Mephala she has an active interest in learning about all three political groups.

Orc battlemage in EP (sorcerer). He's a native of the Sheogorad region. Assisting the Pact is really just a means to gain prestige. If he can prove the worth of his people to the Pact that's valuable, but doubts this will happen and knows they'll persevere either way. He does enjoy working with Nords, whom he admires even though he and his people have often competed against them.

Nord spellsword in AD (templar). A devotee of sun magic, he headed to more tropical climes - and also to learn from the Altmer. I actually haven't played this character much.

Altmer warrior in EP (nightblade). While largely apolitical, she is a supporter of unity, particularly among elves. She's my newest character and hasn't done much yet.
