Most of ESO issues are servers side.

I can max this game @1440 p with an FX 8350 and a pair of R9 280X in Crossfire and rarely ever drop below 60FPS in PVE. In PVP its mostly 60 FPS until large Cyrodiil battles happen, then things fall but never below 29 FPS....if i overclock to 4.6ghz i gain around 2-3 FPS in Cyrodiil but why bother when ESO doesn't even use CPU resources...when i lag and drop to 29 FPS my CPU has about 40% usage and my GPU's around 30% each, because they are "Waiting" for the server to send back a response and tell them what to do, hence the lag.

the kicker is your FPS is tied to server response. If you got a 999 ping what exactly is the client supposed to process? it can't render any frames when it doesn't know what to render while it waits for a response server side.

I have had 60 FPS at the High Rock Gate with 40+ players standing around only to lag because red ping of a fight at the last Emp keep makes it unplayable.

ESO would easily be maxable on any FX 6300+ or i5 CPU and any mid-range GPU from a GTX 970 or R9 390 @ 1080 if ZOS could get server side issues sorted...the majority of this games complaints are from latency issues and lag.

Thats a heck of a rig with that 5930k and that GTX 1080. Games like Rhyse Son of Rome, Fallout 4, Crysis 3, and the new Tomb Raider should look and play phenominal with that beastly hardware. Great rig man! :)

Exactly what others mentioned. My system gets starved just waiting for the game to respond. I end up seeing 20-30% GPU useage in some large PVP battles waiting for the Server to send info.

The bottom line here is, there will never be acceptable performance until ZoS gets their act together.
I've played this game on 5 different setups, ranging from a budget £500+ AMD Build to my current custom gaming beast which costs over £2000 and everything in between, including a mid-tier i5 5200, GT 840 Laptop. Performance differences are noticeable only in PvE where the cheap tier rigs hover around 30-60 FPS on max settings and the gaming beast reaching 120+ at times, but in Large AVA battles in Trueflame they all suffer exactly the same way and have the same performance problems because the client optimization is damn bad and horrible latency on top of it makes it even worse.

Until the memory leaks and horrible ping are resolved, no matter how good your rig is, don't expect it to run smooth in PvP, because it won't. I don't know, for some people 20+ FPS is acceptable, and I suppose it's playable, but if coupled with 600+ ping - nah, no way.
But at least I can enjoy every other game at 4k and great performance, having a blast in Arma3, even though the GTX 1080 can't max it fully (view distance mainly) with just a single GPU, it still looks and plays amazing. Who knows, maybe ESO one day will too, by 2020 maybe? I know it's a MMO, but c'mon...

Is it possible to record some footage in PVP showing the different systems you have?

There is at least a certain gap in terms of performance in large battles among people with different hardware. In my case, low end PC seems to get around 5 - 10 fps in those situations (at 1280x720 lowest settings possible), sometimes dropping down below 1 frame per second if multiple enemy players are hitting you at the same time.

On the other hand, the highest end rigs seem to maintain at least around 30-40fps at 1080p max settings even in those situations. (Normally they are sitting over 90fps). I'd kill even for 15-20fps in large battles; however, if GTX 1080 and X99 can maintain close to 50fps, then at least I know what to buy when I finally upgrade.

The latency and frame rate drops often occur at the same time, but they are not exactly the same issue. Higher end systems can retain high frame rate even as the ping shoots up and latency issues occur, such as rubber banding and unresponsive weapon swap.

Often when there are high ping spikes and my frame rate is in the low single digits, friends playing with high end systems mention the lag is affecting them but they are still at high frame rate. Lag is a challenge for everyone, but players with low end PCs have an especially difficult time in Cyrodiil around primetime.

Yeah it definitely is worse on low end systems, sure. But you will never get 50 fps, even with a i7 and GTX 1080 in large battles, maybe for a split second if not too many skills are being fired, it seems to average between 25 and 50 with dips as low as 5 fps in some scenarios, if only for a second, it's enough to get me killed.
Don't get me wrong, it's certainly an improvement over my previous rig which was i5 4670k and GTX 970 and is noticeable, but it is still quite bad considering how high the hardware is, it's certainly not a major improvement and it leaves a lot to be desired for. If you plan to upgrade ONLY for ESO PvP, you will be sorely disappointed, just as I was. The issue is not the hardware as much, it's the game and the server.

I will try to make some videos tomorrow, right now I'm typing out on my tablet xD

I just got my second GTX 1080 this evening. I have the new bridge on order. For now I'm using my old bridge that came with my motherboard. I've heard that the old bridge should be good enough for up to 4K resolutions but beyond that the new bridge is required.

My motherboard also requires that my x16/x16 performance be right next to each other. If I space them out to allow them to cool better I get x16/x8. I'm not sure if that is a factor. I'll test and see if I see a difference while putting the new SLI through it's paces.

    Edit:

One thing I can say is to get a benefit from SLI at least in the 64bit client you have to go into the nvidia control panel and force alternate frame rending mode. If you leave it at nVidia recommended no SLI indicator is displayed. I tried force alternate frame rendering mode 1 and 2 with vertical sync off and with just a quick test there doesn't appear to be much of a difference in frame rate. I'm still seeing anywhere from 48 to 74 FPS in Abeh's Landing. Tomorrow I will try overclocking my CPU to see if the frame rate jumps up that way in a more substation amount.

I went back and read the guru 3D article and it seems I was incorrect. The old bridge that came with the board is good up to 2K. The LED bridge is good up to 4K and the new bridge is good for everything.

The order from nVidias site didn't have a ETA on my new bridge. I have hope that once it arrives I should see larger gains in the FPS.

Funny thing i have same setting everything and same resolution with my GTX 970, I7-6700K 4,0 GHz and when i install game set resolution 3840x2160 as default i think it is very funny with my graphics card is only GTX 970 but i have to agree it look really nice with your GTX 1080 do have any lag spike or do run really smooth game for your?

Are you playing max settings at 4K?

Keep in mind my videos up to now have been one GTX 1080.

We have an event tonight called the unguided tours. It's most likely going to be PVP. I'll record it to share. However I still only have the old SLI bridge so I don't have an optimal setup until the new bridge arrives. :disappointed:

In addition keep in mind my processor is running at 3.5GHz at the moment. I can crank it up to 4GHz and 4.5GHz and get speed measurements another time. If this game is limited to the number of threads it runs on I can also set the game to run on specific cores and crank only those cores up a little higher. Maybe 5GHz.

Right now the frame rate never dips below 40 even in dungeons and the little bit of PVP that I do. My guild has a event tonight called the unguided tours. It's fun. I expect it will be maybe about 8 to 10 of us doing who knows what most likely PVP.

The other thing is I'm uploading 4K videos on youtube but they don't process beyond 1080P. I don't know what the deal is there.

Here is a clip of game play. My Premiere is limited to 1080P but at the start I have shown the video settings being used. This is PVE with a group of seven.

I have to go back and do this again in PVP and see if I can get the frame rate to display. For now though this will give an idea of performance for those that are interested.

Zenimax really did a great job on the graphics of this game. With the 4k Resolution, the game really looks incredible. One of these days when they get all the bugs worked out I may look at upgrading from a 970 GTX to the 1070 or 1080's. With all the PVP that I play currently, it would be nothing more than a pretty slide show with the server sided lag so it's not worth the upgrade costs just yet.

Thanks for the video. The game really does look awesome on 4k.

Your screen runs at a maximum of 1080P?

What I found with my GTX 970 cards before I upgraded was they did well up to 1440P with upper range of 55FPS give or take a few here and there while questing and doing dungeons. I got some good video of playing in Cyrodiil. We didn't end up doing any PVP but there was 8 to 10 of us through out the night.

Last night when I tried ESO with my SLI setup I was not getting good results. However tonight to my pleasant surprise I found that in the zone I was able to do 4K Max settings with V-sync and AA and I was 60FPS 99.9% of the time with the occasional fluctuation to 58 to 62 FPS which I consider anomalies.

I guess I didn't need to order the bridge after all. I'll go ahead and install it when it arrives but mission accomplished.

I'll share the video once I have it encoded to share the capabilities of the two GTX 1080 cards in SLI.

I'll go check those items out. Sounds delightful.

    Edit:

    I found this page.

Removing the fog you still see through is removing depth. If heat shimmers where added in near the lava that would be a better tweak in my opinion.

I might try the SweetFX. That looks like it is adjusting the color balance without killing the depth of the image. That looks promising.
