Are you likely to buy Dyes from the crown store once you know how they work?

The thread with the official answer eludes me (if some nice person can link it I'll add it to the OP) but the following is how the new crown store dyes are going to work.

1. There are NO new dyes.
2. The ONLY dyes available will be from the first tier, most common dyes. NO rare dyes will be available.
3. They are sold in a pre-arranged color configuration, you as a player cannot decide which color goes in which color channel. Wanted that yellow to be the raised detail on the metal of your costume? Too bad, it's the color that goes on your legs.
4. No way to preview how these dyes sets will look. There is a preview I'm told.
5. They are PER CHARACTER, not account wide.
6. These dyes ONLY apply to costumes, you CANNOT use them on armor. (update)

Knowing all that, how likely are you to buy them anyway?

0% - They need to fix the dyes so colors match materials. I hate that daedric red is super shiny on some styles and completely dulled out on others.

I am not going to buy any of them, as I have a subscription so I can apply any dye I know to the costumes.

However, based on the few combo's I saw on the ESO Live, I would not get any of them.

I think a better system would be a Token that could be used by a player to pick the dyes they want from what they already know and be able to apply them in any combo they want. Not sure if that could be implemented or not, but it would be something that more people who do not subscribe would buy. At least in my opinion.

    Even if I wasn't subbed, 0%.

I tried very hard but I couldn't think of a worse way to introduce a paid system.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I think it's a neat idea, but it's executed so... haphazardly.

It seems like the only people who would buy these are people who don't really know any better (a new player sees "dye stamp" and doesn't realize that ESO+ offers the full system instead of this gimped one) and that doesn't really sit right with me. It feels a little like predatory marketing. \:

Subbed, so I'm not worried, but this system is terrible. I've dumped more than I care to admit into crown items, but I'd never spend real money on prefigured dye schemes that I can't alter to my taste.

That's the key, you provide a system where the player has control over exactly what goes where and it will sell, this will too, there is a sucker born every minute.

Subbed so I wont need that, BUT I find it a bit of a poop move to sell those things for REAL MONEY while the player CANNOT EVEN CHOOSE what colors he/she wants or where those colors go. Stop the *** ZOS. If you make people pay for something, at least do it right. Their money counts as well.

So if I wouldnt be subbed, no I wouldnt waste my money for such a slap in the face. Its a RPG... the LEAST you should be able to do is choose how you want to look.

If I decide to dye my costumes, I'll sub for a month to do it. Good selection of fully customizable dyes, 1500 crowns back - there's no downside. Dye stamps are too limiting in comparison. They're cheap, I'll give them that, but in every other respect it's an awful system.

Wait, what. No new dyes? What's the point then if they're only the first tier?? They're so easy to get in game.

And I'm not sure if I'm understanding point 3 correctly. But out of the three boxes of each armor colorization you don't select one of the three to color anymore only it's pre selected for you now? Really?

I feel like I'm in a dream world where nothing makes sense lol. The only color I was hoping to get my hands on was the Aurora Green unlocked from Hel Ra Citadel. I'm not a pver and have not enough friends to run it with. Also never had a good tight knit guild yet.

When you click the dye stamp in the PTS crown store, it previews what those dyes look like on your current equipped. Does not preview on underwear or polymorphs because those can't be dyed.

And there are a lot of permutations of the stamps (18 on PTS currently) so if it's yellow/green/gray on one, there's probably a green/yellow/gray, a gray/green/yellow, a yellow/gray/green, and so on. Not every combo, but a lot of them. There's a good chance that if you want colors channels swapped, there's a stamp for that.

Not saying it's all that great to begin with. But it's slightly more advanced than what you've suggested.

Because I don't like how PvP works in this game many of the colors I want most will remain unavailable to me. I was also hoping for NEW "crown store exclusive" colors because while it SEEMS at first glance that there are a lot of color choices in the regular dye system the fact is that MOST of them are either simply boring or outright unattractive.

      Nope.

I will unlock dyes as I play. I just cannot justify paying actual money for any dyes in this game. But that's just me.

It's a purely aesthetic thing, these dyes. So if someone else wants to spend their money on them, that's their thing and they're welcome to it. For me? I... just can't justify it.

If they want to truly make money on dyes then they need to offer rare and exclusive dyes and sell them individually. They would also need to be account-wide. Would be nice to see some dyes that glowed.

Even if I wasn't subbed, I am not a fan of this system. Not having a say in which colors go where doesn't work for me at all.

I prefer to get ALL the achievements, getting ALL the colors myself. Having a sub means if I want to dye something, I get to choose what color is going where (among other things).

I agree. Not everybody will like the spattered-paint appearance of the Hist Guar. But as a more orderly glow dye? I'd definitely buy it. One effect dye like that every quarter to tie into the current DLC is reasonable.

There shouldn't be any confusion though.

Without a costume or hat equipped, you get a regular mouse cursor and red text.

      5webtg.jpg

When you equip a costume or hat, you get a magnifying glass for preview.

      2iu5cie.jpg

It would help if the cursor showed in screenshots, but I promise it's there.

And since I didn't mention in my other post, maybe like 20% chance or so if I were not subbing to the game. I'm very picky about my appearance and generally do not wear costumes already because I would rather deal with armor that I've made and colored. This update opens the door for me to use neat looted sets! :3 (because yes, I was picky enough to not use looted sets if they were in a style I didn't like)

No I mean actual gear sets. For instance, I have had Spellpower Cure set pieces sitting in my bank for ages because I think xivkyn looks like something that came out of a horker's orifice on my main. I have yet to nab a costume in the crown store that I liked the look of, thought was combat appropriate, and had nice color. Now I can at least fix the color part!
