What is the point of writing "688 critical" instead of "3.14% critical" ?

Yes, they explained this when they effectively multiplied everything by 7 (almost two years ago).

Apparently people are happier if they see a big number and also perceive a greater increase if you go from 650 to 800 rather than from 6.5 to 8.

It's all about making what you've got look bigger ;)

In theory, it was because the Champion system's buffs were too small to see on the character sheet. So, apparently testers were thinking the system didn't work, and our stats got an extra 0.

It allows them to tinker with the formula without having to redo all gear instead.

So if they decide that people are getting too much crit from gear all they have to do is change the formula so 688 is equal to 2.7% instead of 3.14%.

Much easier than having to redo all the gear tables.

I'm fine with the 688 crit number, but the core game (without addons) should also calculate our your actual % and put that in there whenever the 688 is used. That number means absolutely nothing out of context. Would 688 (3.14%) be so hard? It's infinitely more user friendly.

Since the overall value is represented by a percentage value, this actually really annoys me lol.
Hey everyone! Look! It's a signature!

When they first switched it over, I assumed they were changing crit to a diminishing returns system... Which would have explained why there was no hard %.

    Nope.

My vote is because nobody likes PI >.<

I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).

you know I was going to make a thread on this same thing, because all there silly changes in the past were for "clarity" and "readability" yet this and the impen system are both bullocks.

I had to breakdown the numbers and figure out on my own what the numbers meant and write it down on a cheat sheet

    (~219 = 1% critical at 50 btw)

armor and spell resist is annoying too because it changes as you level, and it should at least get a mitigation % similar to crit %

    ESO player since beta.
    game got too disappointing.
