I'm overall very, very disappointed with these dye packs. There's absolutely zero value to them, for me and I expect many others. Ideally, I should be able to buy a dye pack and be able to use it as a one-time, consumable item that lets me dye any costume piece exactly how I want it, like the people who subscribe can do with their costumes.

I will absolutely never buy a dye pack (and by extension, any costumes) the way that they are now. It makes no sense from any perspective to do so.

Please seriously reconsider the function and design of these packs. There's no incentive for people to buy them right now. The whole point of character customization is exactly that, customization. With restricted dye selection (seriously, no rare dyes? almost every dye I use right now is a rare dye) and a limited, cycled out system, you're probably never going to get the colors you want. It just makes no sense.

I think this illustrates the perfect example of why reaching out to your community to see what they want before you begin designing systems is the way to go. You're wasting your own time, resources and money on something that will satisfy very, very few people and potentially losing out on even more revenue because what you've designed is lacking in value. And if you're simply making these options less valuable on purpose to induce the psychological comparison effect to make us want to sub, that's even worse. I won't subscribe at all unless there's a viable alternative.

Dye stamps are a nice idea, and the available colours are reasonable though quite limited, but it's a real shame that under this system we cannot use our own unlocked dyes freely (particularly the rare ones). I understand the want for ESO Plus members to have extra features available, but since costume dying is completely free and open for them, hopefully a bit more customisation could be added for everyone else.

For example, you could sell an "empty" dye stamp in the Crown Store, alongside the presets, for perhaps 1.5x the cost. Players would be able to pick and choose from their unlocked dyes which colours to fill the stamp with, and then like all the other stamps, it could be used on one costume. This gives everyone the opportunity to dye their costumes as they want, but doesn't take away from the ESO Plus benefit of being able to do it indefinitely for free.

I wasn't able to dye any costumes. lmao figured it out

Also the preset colours are hilariously bad, I didn't find one that I liked. Not gonna waste my crowns on this. IMO it would be far better to unlock costume dying via the crown store for anyone that isn't an ESO+ member.

While I am not a fan of this feature, at least many of the color combinations are really tasteful. I still think it is unreasonably limited.

Anyways, yes, it was easy to find and to use. It worked on all the costumes I tried, although I didn't try all of them.

I think you could AT LEAST let people change the order of the colors. Although, what I really think that should be done is for this system to be scrapped in favor of a consumable token that let people who do not subscribe use the dye station once per token.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Pointless feature - I'd remove it as it will just irritate most folks and satisfy a very very small niche of players.

Besides what's the point of having them as a consumable right now? Besides sheer greed. Any player can just screenshot the combinations and unlock the colours to apply them themselves without buying them.

The idea and execution gets a solid thumbs down from me.

EDIT: After more thinking about it I'd like to see this changed from being a consumable to being a template that you purchase. Kind of like owning a meta collectable that you can apply to your other collectables. The consumable idea is just silly but as a template unlock I can see it fulfilling a tiny niche albeit less outrageously capitalistic.

I should say, I don't bother, but it's not true. I don't like the idea so common system like dyeing in crown store. I do not like when limited me, so I'm using ESO+. This helps, but it does not make me forget the problem. This direction is also confusing because it can be a first step in a direction I do not want to.

    After that, what's next?
    - Weapon dyeing in crown store?
    - Weapon skins in crown store?

    I really hope not.

This is about to have something extra to ESO+ players?
I have a better idea ESO+ vs ESO-.
ESO+ players get all servives (craft bag, assistants, etc). ESO- players can buy all services for crown for example craft bag 5k crown too like merchant and bank assistant. How many players would buy it? Lots.
Anyway, lots of new item with every DLC, but bank and inventory space limited, other good idea, raise bank and character inventory cap too.
Crown from services much better in my opinion instead of crown from consumables.

Or if u choose that way, you can give players crown store items as reward (for dailies, for achievement, for weeklies, for in-game event rewards) reducing tensions.

Were you able to successfully dye your costumes and hats using Dye Stamps?
Eventually. Many of them do not work well, though. For example, it is impossible to replace the dark grey which is the majority colour of the Dark Seducer costume, no matter which dye stamp you choose. One of the new costumes (don't have the PTS open to check the name, but it's the one with the strange plumed helmet, bare chest, and long skirt) dyes appallingly due to the rough cloth texture of the skirt.

Was it clear how to use Dye Stamps?
Not at all. I wasn't expecting a Consumable. I previewed the Dye Stamps in the Crown Store and expected them to apply to the costume my character was wearing immediately. I ended up buying many copies of the same Dye Stamp because I couldn't figure out what was going on.

Did the Dye Stamps work as expected?
No. Just like when you dye armor, the same colour came out looking different on "metal" textures and "leather" textures and "cloth" textures.

Also it seems faintly ridiculous that you have a multitude of Dye Stamps with the same colours in a different order. That is exceedingly confusing. I think people will accidentally buy the wrong Dye Stamp because they only look at the colours rather than the order, and will then be upset that they have spent Crowns on it.

Is there anything you would like to see added to the experience?
Honestly, I will be avoiding the entire Dye Stamp experience by virtue of being an ESO Plus member, and I am not at all sad about that.

The limited edition not in color selection, dyes ones should be automatically added to the dye list when used, make it worth buying for those dye collectors with eso+, maybe in a beyond rare 'Special' / 'Crown' / 'Legendary' section.

The dyes should be buyable in packs of 2-5 as trying to buy 15 of each on pts got me server kicked for spamming!!!

As an aside please add an [F] option to using riding skills in 10's since it's a pain to click 1 by 1 by 1...

Agree, character customisation is a very large part of any RPG, and this is a very limiting system.

When you spend a 1000 Crowns on a costume, it already sucks that you can't freely dye it. But then having to pay to dye it in colours you can't freely choose nor even change the order of said colours, boggles my mind. There's a reason Twitch chat boo'd when this part of costume dyeing was shown.

I am of the inclination that not being able to dye costumes was an omission in a system which should have been patched as part of a base game update, especially since most costumes are already Crown Store paid. If monetization is required, at least provide an empty dye stamp with each costume bought from the Crown Store. A B2P title can afford that much for their customers at least, right?

If it's an armor and NOT a costume, then this is as expected since the dye stamps only dye costumes and hats.

Abah's Watch Turbans are under the hats section - there are two variations with mouth cover and without... Open up the UI and see.

You're confusing it with the Abah's Watch armour motif.

I believe it's relevant to post here, that this system must face significant revision before it is released on Live. Dye Stamping just isn't going to sit well with the playerbaseat all for the reasons people have lalready listed above.

..... If were being honest, costume dyeing itself was not something that needed to become ESO+ only, and sets off an alarm to many players regarding what other basic features will become locked in the future.

I can't help but get excited for player housing (along with I'm sure hundreds of thousands of TES fans). The work that ZOS has included into the amazing-looking player housing system really shows. Whether it was created for the players to bolster a strong playerbase, or for pure greed via only Crown purchases/ESO+, is not something I like to think about.

I won't purchase a home for 6K crowns, beds for 1K crowns each, space to plant stuff for 3K crowns, crafting stations for 3K crowns each, a horse stable for 2K crowns, a second floor for 4K crowns, storage spaces of 50 for 1K crowns each, a trophy room for 2K crowns, a mannequin for 5K crowns, etc.

Is this how it'll be? Putting something as lowly and sad as those ugly Dye Stamps points to this, and if you attract tons of players based on the cool-factor of new features coming, they will be gone just as fast when they see it costs real money to benefit from anything, even classic TES features.

Whatever, it's just that seeing how terrible the game currently performs on console right now combined with how greedy ZOS is becoming looks really bad for the future of ESO. A fantastic game with great content on it's way. Only ZOS can outrage players when a game like this should have seen a massive growth when Dark Brotherhood released.

Okay... I was reading through this to kind of glean info about the dye stamp thing...

If I understand it, the "color" are fixed in slots???

That is ludicrous. The different part of the armors do NOT all dye the same. Even if I wanted say... red, white and black as my color scheme, the paldrons would require a different "order" than most of the rest of it. Irritating enough in the regular dye stations, but in this case, the "dye stamp" is rendered annoying, which is (to me) worse than useless.

This might be one of the worst things you guys have come up with yet. It was a terrible idea to lock dyes to achievements in the first place and a lazy way of not having to come up with REAL rewards for achievements. In a perfect world you'd unlock the ENTIRE dye pallet for everyone and create cool rewards worth having for the achievements that currently only have a dye as their reward.

Failing that (since we know it's not going to happen as it would require actual work not locked behind a pay wall), if you're going to implement dyes as a crown store item they need to be NEW dyes that are NOT available in the game. And they should cost no more than what you are currently planning to charge for these dyes. Further, you need to implement a way for players to choose what color goes where. Presets are a TERRIBLE idea. No one is going to like that.

Honestly, best case scenario, add NEW dyes to the crown store, sell them for a reasonable price, let them be an account wide unlock and add a new section to the dye station for them. If you're REALLY smart you'll let people PREVIEW them at the dye station. I guarantee you that people would buy them then.

But this "thing" you've come up with? It's just BAD and designed in such a way that it's far more likely to tick people off than gain you more fans.

Why not just let us dye our costumes for free, like we can our armor. We pay for the costumes already, but does everything new need to cost money. Release more costumes. If they look good and dye well, people will spend money. I am a subscriber on ps4 so the stupid stamp system won't bother me, but when I logged onto the pts I couldn't believe this system. We have dyes let us use them.

The costume dye system should make people want to buy your costumes, not add an odd system for people that don't subscribe. This system seems pointless. Get rid of the dye stamps, let people use the dyes unlocked on their account.

Costume and hat dyeing should compliment current and future offerings in the crown store by allowing personalization, not by adding pointless purchases for non subscribers.

I am extremely disappointed with this feature.

I was very excited with the thought of being able to dye my Dragon Priest costume so I could look like the Dragon Priest in my avatar's picture, and I can't put into words how mad I got when I found out that freely dyeing costumes was a ESO Plus feature. I too paid to play this game, can't you throw us a bone now and then? Cheap move. Anyways, since I cannot, by all that is sacred, become an ESO Plus subscriber, as "there is an error with my Billing Address Information" (by all the gods, I tried), I reluctantly took a look at the dye stamps.

Seems to me like this is a bad joke. All the colours are terrible! I mean, red and gold is one of the most popular combinations ever, and where is this option? I mean, how could someone even think bright green and purple would be popular? Really?

I honestly hope you will rethink the costume dyeing as an ESO Plus only feature. There is greatness in admitting one's mistakes, and to deny us that, such a small little thing, was not only a mistake, but also a cheap move. If you're going to keep denying non ESO Plus subscribers costume dyeing, then please consider making it possible to unlock this feature at the Crown Store, using Crowns. Even if it's a token or whatever "one use only costume dyeing", just as long as we can dye it with our unlocked dyes in the order we desire.

Finally, do try to make better choices when creating the dye stamps. I mean, you could just observe what players usually dye their gears with and copy it. Poof! Profit!

Until then, I suppose I will just keep staring at the picture of my perfectly colored Dragon Priest avatar, as it mocks my ugly in-game Dragon Priest costume...

I am a subscriber (try using Paypal if you can OP, I swear I've never done business with a company that makes it so hard for me to give them money!) and even I think this whole dyeing business was handled terribly. The dyes you can buy are all from the first tier of available common dyes, you know, the ones that all look like they've been mixed with mud. Who do they think wants to buy those? A far better (and more profitable) option would be to add a fourth tier of colors to the dye station of NEW colors and make them crown store exclusives. Once you've bought one, it unlocks and is freely useable like your other dyes. Meanwhile, your unlocked dyes should be available for dyeing costumes just as they are now. ZOS really did this whole thing terribly badly and I hope they will reconsider.

I just bought one. It says this in the tooltip for the stamp in red: "Requires an active Costume or Hat." When I double-click on the stamp it says, "This Dye Stamp has no costume or hat to affect." But I have a costume on (Seadrake Disguise). If this costume isn't eligible, I wish it would tell me. If these costumes I've gotten from questing aren't usable by the dyes from the store, I would want my money back But I'm guessing that's not allowed >.>

You should just sell the damn colors right from the dye station. Really, people.

This is the official feedback thread for Dye Stamps. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:

    • Was it clear how to use Dye Stamps?
    • Did the Dye Stamps work as expected?
    • Is there anything you would like to see added to the experience?

    1. Yes.
    2. Not entirely. I did not know, for instance, that they only work on costumes and not outfits, until I tried that. I did not know they could be banked and passed on to another character. And I did not know until very recently that I could dye over parts of a stamp while leaving some stamp colors, which increased their value ENORMOUSLY to me.
    3. Pretty much, I mean that's what previews are for and my expectations come from previews.
    4. I'd like to see an array of three colors offered but with a toggle to switch their position on a costume, because this time around there were colors I wanted to use but they were in the wrong position and there was no stamp that offered that color in the right position, so I didn't get a stamp.
