Do I just suck, or are Heists pretty hard to finish within the time limit?

I found the heists hard, but if you get very lucky, doable. Of all the tried I did, I have one completion within time so far.

What's more vexing is that I absolutely HATE working against a time limit.
Thus I kinda wish they weren't all timed... one of them maybe, but the others I'd prefer seeing different gimmicks. Like... one where you absolutely -cannot- let yourself be spotted to complete, another where you have few guards, but many, many puzzle-locks and traps, a third where theres tons of environmental hazards to navigate, a fourth where you have to find a path through climbing and secret doors (which would change so you cannot just do the map once and then know the way - you'd have to find out which way would be 'active' each new haeist)... varietee! Varietee instead of race against the clock all the time!

Be honest, it's ok if it is just me and I suck, I'll just try to git gud or whatever. i'll take whatever advice you can give.

Heists, don't seem to encourage actual careful, sneaky play. it seems to encourage more of a sprint while spamming Dark Cloak kind of "stealth", until you see the Lamp Guards.

I'm waiting for the Guard with the lamp to move so I can sneak past him, and time is ticking down, and I'm just like "MOVE, GET OUTTA MY WAY ALREADY." and it takes the guy like 20-25 seconds to get far enough away for me to jump out of the basket and haul ass to the next one. that 20 seconds is precious man. especially since if you get seen for even a split-second you lose like half of your time(it seems).

any hints to help me more reliably complete these without having to constantly abandon and start over?

I complete them with about 2 minutes to spare and on other toons besides my nightblade. The key for me is the gear. For Heists I run 5 shadowdancer and 5 nightmother.

Seriously it really makes a difference. My gear is a mismatch too. I have exploration, sturdy, etc...lol.. the traits don't matter. The 5pc passives are my key.

Heists are like endgame content for thieves. It's like the Maelstrom Arena for thievery ;) With the time limit being what it is I think they should let you bring a friend along though so you can split up the task. Some of these it takes me twice that long just to find the dang things, let alone worry about being undetected.
You can bring a friend. Just share the quest with them.

Mind you, I haven't actually done this myself, so I don't know if you split the task or if you both have to do it, but I know you can bring a friend.

That's probably the trick then! I didn't know you could do that. Should be a lot easier if two people can split up and cut the time in half. I'm going to have to try this.

LOL nope, wouldn't work. Each of you would have to collect his own hidden treasures, they're not registered for all the group members. I think doing it in a group makes it far more difficult. You'd also probably have to wait for chests to respawn...

    .

I think it's actually a proximity thing. I was getting credit for caches and the treasure if I was close to my accomplice. So, no, you can't entirely divide and conquer. Of course, more people also means more chances to get spotted too.

That's weird though.. Why would they announce "You can go them alone, or bring friends and orchestrate a coordinated heist for the ultimate reward", if everyone had separate objectives?

I thought the principle behind heists in group was the same as in Wrothgar daily world boss quests where you share them and do them together.

Edit: Nevermind, I thought you had actually done them in group :p

Just to add to my previous post,
I did another earlier today and found that once i'd cleared one area of the chests I was right back near the exit before the last two showed up at the area I'd already cleared forcing me to run the gauntlet again, it did so on 5 different attempts after that too so not sure if it's intended or a bug, if it's intended then the timer needs to be extended by a lot.

Also finding that some traps aren't selectable to be disarmed, some only at a certain angles and some not at all, I tried different camera angles as I thought it may just be a positioning issue but found no difference so definitely bugged.

I'm still finding guards that aren't moving while chests are spawned next to them and on one occassion an extra guard appeared in an area near the entrance/exit where there had only been one when I passed earlier, was a single tunnel with no access from anywhere else so I'd have definitely seen him the first time had he been there, seemed a little unfair to stack the odds against me on my exiting with 15 seconds left on the timer, the phantom guard appearing that time caused me to have to abandon the quest and try again, he didn't appear on the next run through.
I'm playing on ps4 if that helps and I'd like to give these another chance if they're ever fixed but gonna leave them for now, too much wasted time for such little reward.

Oh ,I ignore the timer.I tried and tried not to kill anyone, but once you do that the timer goes nutz.
I just wonder why they did that.If you can kill someone and still get the loot before the time is up,you should get the reward for beating that timer. Why should you lose time just because you killed an enemy.

    Hi everyone!

I wanted to let you all know that we’ve been reading the feedback and doing a lot of internal playtesting ourselves to adjust heists to where we want them to be. We want to try and fix some of the frustrating elements and make sure all the heists are in line with one another as far as difficulty goes.

The optional time bonus is supposed to be hard, but not unfair. It should also be doable if played just right even in full heavy armor and no points into any stealth reduction. You just have to play it very well.

That said, here are some of the things we’re hitting in the next several patches and you should see come online over time to help with this:

    - Deadhollow Halls is getting adjusted to fall more in line with other heists. This includes changing some hard to see traps, adjusting where monsters move to, and how long you have to wait for them to move away from certain locations.
    - Several bug fixes including the timer removing more time than intended when being seen by a group of monsters at the same time.
    - Evaluating the loot you receive for completing the bonus quests.

We’ll continue to take a look at heists as a whole and see what else might need to be tweaked, but I wanted to update everyone and just let folks know that we’re looking into these things.

The loot is pretty disappointing to say the least.

Maybe add an Outlaw motif page if you complete it within the time and without getting spotted.

good to hear the fix the time ticking down fast when more then one person at the same time spots you.
This was a big frustrating thing. As a nightblade I've been very close to getting withing the time limit, altough it depends what map. I've been like 20/30 sec schort for a good couple of times now.

I like the heists... sometimes there are some weird things but they are fixing them so yeey

I've finished a couple of the heists. they are definitely doable.

just want to make it clear, I'm not asking for the Heists to be made easier. just musing on their difficulty level and fishing for general tips and tricks.

I've found that being a Vampire(or using nights silence, if you aren't a Vampire) makes the 8-minute timer much more tolerable. the ability to run full-speed in stealth saves so much time.

overall, I don't have much issue with the Heists themselves, what always gets me is the Timer, I feel compelled to beat the timer, I don't feel like I've beaten the Heist unless I beat the timer. and that feeling of "I have to rush to beat the timer" causes me to not play as carefully as I would usually when I am sneaking around, and I end up running into things I would usually avoid, trying to rush through everything. and instantly abandoning when I get seen and lose a minute of time.

overall, the Heists are really fun, and I'd like to see more of them added to the game. I'd also like to see Group Heists that are much larger (like a Dungeon compared to the Delve Heists we have now) with group-based Mechanics in them.

Deadhollow Halls is definitely the most annoying one out of them all, since the lantern guards move so slowly, pause for long times and illuminate the entire hallway making it impossible to sneak past them most of the time.

I wish that they would be made cross faction like other instances now. Tried to run with another DC friend and an AD friend. The AD guy was on the dungeon map but invisible and in a different phased dungeon. Seems that this could be easily changed since they have done it with the pledges already.

I don't quite understand heists, or I just suck at them. If you get seen your time drops. I've never gotten to zero before but just the time component alone is stressful enough for me to give up. Is it necessary to do it in the time limit? I just kind of thought "Oh a guard sees me. Say hello to my blade of woe" But still that cuts time. I use my clannafer to help me but because he attacks anything with a red glow I get seen and the time drops.

Do you get kicked out for the time reaching zero and have to restart?

A shadowdancer set is good to have, that you have full run speed in sneak - mobility in stealth is quite useful. This set can be combined with nightmother's embrace - I have this combi on one of my characters and it works quite well.
