It would be a nice feature but I can also see some issues it might cause. IE : It could promote fraud, Theft, stand over tactics and harassment in the real world of players from other players, with how diverse ESO is and the ranges of personalities, social backgrounds and mental states etc some people may be vulnerable to this behavor.
While rare it could become an issue there would have to be some kind of measures in place as real money is involved. Not bursting your bubble, just speaking from a realistic point of view of how the world is these days and potential legal issues that's all.
If there was a gifting function people will use it to sell crown store stuffs for ingame gold and ZoS don't encourage trading ingame stuff for real money. I heard you can be banned for doing that.
I like the idea. It would be nice to be able to give crown store items to friends. Especially if it was sent directly to them through the game so it could be a surprise.
Guild Wars 2 has a gifting system for their cash shop and I'm not aware of any of the problems listed here coming up in that game. I suppose it's possible it has happened and no one has ever spoken about it publicly. But given the tendency for people to rush to the forum over every little thing that seems unlikely.
I'm not sure how it could promote theft, unless you mean people who get their account stolen by hackers might find their crowns removed along with everything else. I suppose real world harassment is a possibility, but surely the same is true with in-game items and gold. A player could force someone to send them gold and/or items (or craft things for them for free) already, but again I've never heard of it happening.

Agreed. As it stands I have to log into a friends account and then buy them crowns with my credit card. Would be nice to just gift some for my friends not as financially free as myself.
