Should the way motifs are earned be changed?

A lot of motifs in the latest expansions have to be randomly aquired by farming bosses. But then do make it worse you have to be the highest damage dealer or the final blow to be able to loot the boss for only a small chance to even get the motif. So people just stand where the boss spawns for hours competing against other players for a motif? That isn't a very good move. Its cheap gimmicks like this that make me quit rpg's. The fighting for the loot is a stupid idea. It only benefits the no lifers that have 8 maxed accounts, but hurts the guys just working on their first or second account. Please just let everyone loot, the drop rates are already low. You have to do 5% of damage to be eligible to loot. Damage % does not change chances of motif drop. What do you guys think?

Would rather seen assassin league dropped by sithis boxes randomly rare'ish. Outlaw should have been a trove from the start not boss farming. Glass was silly stupid amount of work... xivkyn was fine. Mercenary should have been much rarer. Dwemer was fine

I'd like to say also that we seriously need a bt boy peice abd alphabet sorter for console traders trying to find a specific page takes some unreasonable effort.

Perhaps not changed, but just more options added. Like a small chance to get a motif on Decon etc.

I personally have little issue about how they currently drop, but I agree that Zeni should at least mix it up a little. Farming bosses isn't about how skilled a person is, it's a patience test. While I had fun farming for Outlaw, the same fun has not transferred to Assassin's League. The bosses are either too easy or too hard, making the fight either tedious or exhausting. Usually both.

I especially like how Mercenary is done- rewards for doing Undaunted, which actually requires some effort. Xivkyn is also a good example, as an uncommon reward when turning in Sewer trophies.

I guess motif farming could be improved, but in your specific example, I don't see your point.

You want to get all the pages? -> go buy them in a store
You want to farm pages for profit? -> there are far more better ways to earn gold

Also, if some people invested time and gold into their builds, why should YOU get equal chance to loot?
The game is already highly rewarding for playing it without requiring good builds.

If everything can be done with 9000 DPS, what is he incentive to improve then?

Abahas Watch motif grinding is *** awful and reflected by the price of pieces on PS4 NA.

All the BS to earn these freaking styles and you can't even change the style of gear you have already golded out.

There are some very cool aspects to crafting in his game but by and large ranging from very unclear communication about different motifs are obtained, searching for motifs in guild stores, how armor is made, the in-ability o fix a mistake while making armor or upgrading it in a UI system that is absolutely terrible. The in-ability to re-trait or re-style gear.

Makes crafting gear quite honestly a nuisance and a pain in the ass almost all the way through the process.

Doing 5% damage is REALLY nothing OP some people do 50% of the damage and then there are like 10 people attacking at the same time...

( they are just geared well )

So asking for a mere 5% is reasonable, also take into account after the first week or so those high damage dealers will already have the motif and the delves will be much emptier that's when you can go and farm em if you are having trouble now

It's just how MMO's work, if you're not the best or struggling with something, gain strength, better gear, practise and come back later! <- best advice you will ever get in any game!

I think this is a myth, kind of like "you have to keep the pinions open until you've killed all the trash if you want a general to spawn at an anchor". There does seem to be a cooldown between loot drops from dungeon bosses, but you certainly don't have to be the highest damage dealer. Try grouping up when doing one of these bosses and check how many people in the group get loot. Pretty sure it won't be only one as you say.

Personally I don't mind the it currently is but wouldn't mind seeing something a little different. My idea was you would get "motif tokens" the same way you get motifs now. Then you would be able spend those tokens motifs you want/need at a vendor

    Yeah, this also.
People assume something based on their experience in other games, but nowhere does it state you have a better chance of dropping something based on your contribution.
I have not tested that myself, but I CAN for a fact say that the "open pinion" myth is no more than a myth. I have killed all dolmen bosses before closing 250 dolmens, and I NEVER left the pinions open.

I can say for a fact highest damage on bosses for a drop is a myth. I have gotten 3 motifs and a ton of loots from the bosses on my tank when there are DPS players there who are doing a ton more damage then I am and getting the final blow the vast majority of the time as well.

Getting a loot all comes down to RNG and getting a motif in that loot is yet another layer of RNG.

Note: my tank averages about 3k DPS when in non dungeon combat where I am focusing on attacking and not on purely tanking so is doing nothing to these motif dropping bosses compared to what a DPS is doing.

More opportunities needs to be added and some motif need the rarity dropped by a lot as they keep adding more so the rarity is too low for some

That's even worse. No logic involved there. I can understand grinding in an MMO, but this is the same reason I quit Destiny and never looked back. Making RNG control every aspect of the game is a BS move. I had friends pick up super rare weapons almost every time we completed a raid and I never even got the more common ones. I never got the Vex, or gjallahorn, or any super rare drop even after 50 hard mode completions on 2 accounts while I had friend pick up two vex's in one drop. Rng is a good way to lengthen play time, but making it control everything is a BS model. I agree with a few of these, more options is needed. I do like the idea of motifs as possible Sithis rewards each day and in the thieves guild.

the myth of 'you have to deal the most damage to loot the boss' to me is repeatedly quashed whenever i do an area boss (in any of the DLC's) or Molag (IC) on my tank or my healer.

I'm ok with DPS not being the answer to everything (actually, I'm not, because ~pew pew~, but I'll go with it for the sake of argument), but everything should be acquirable by playing the game.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".
