You are right, takes about a year. I slacked a bit in the beginning.

Took me almost two years, although I was bad about remembering to start new items researching as soon as old ones finished.

I think the idea is to add a long-term dedication element to crafting. Anyone can grind the crafting skill lines up to 50 without much bother, trait research separates the committed crafters from the I-decon-everything-to-max-my-hirelings crowd.

yeah but still, takes a very longue time. they could shorten the research time. cause you dont find many mastercrafters willing to help for free if you give them aal the materials needed. i would at least give them 10 k for the effort.

I hear what you are saying but as a "mastercrafter" I feel under appreciated and often taken advantage of my skills.

Often, players want a certain item crafted but want me to suggest which set would be best for their build, what style would look best on them, and usually they do not have the materials (wood, ingots, cloth, style stone, trait stone, improving tempers, runes stones) but want to "give me gold"

If I charged an actual market value, legendary pieces would be priced well over 100k.

Usually I come out on the short end when I craft for someone.

Hang in there! ESO+ reduces research times by 10% and each equipment crafting skill line has a passive that reduces research time and lets you research more items at once. Be sure and research the traits you actually want at the start and leave the garbage ones (i.e. prosperous) for the end.

If you're on PC/NA hit me up and I'll craft you whatever you need if you have the materials. Well, as long as it doesn't involve slogging my way into IC to do so (freaking Armor Master).

There is no need to shorten the research times, and you don't need to know 9 traits in everything to be able to make great gear. All you need is 6 Traits known. Furthermore, there are 2 and 3 Trait sets that are still viable end game. You can get that done in less than a week.

To get to 6 Traits in the 7 Armor Pieces and 2 Weapons (and Shield) just in case only takes about two to three weeks, if you have the passives that reduce research times and allow for more items to be researched at once. Figure on a month total as you won't be logging in exactly when you need to for queuing up the next set of items.

6 Traits will allow you to make some of the most powerful gear in the game (Hundings Rage for Stamina, and Julianos for Casters). The gear that requires more Traits to be known is more Niche gear than general purpose gear and requires focused builds and playstyles.

It is the 7th to 9th Traits that take a long time.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

that i understand. if they cant give the materials and wanting the set in epic or legendary, you should charge them for it. but like me, i am searching for a 5 piece 9 trait set. materials i have, but i will bring them to epic and legendary myself. so i just need them in white. but still they charge to much ( and that per piece)

i understand completly. i would do the same, but im still researching. But what i also would do is make some 9 trait sets( in white) and sell them in the guildstore. then people can buy it if they realy want that set. if i have enough materials for it :).

If you just want to be able to craft 9 trait sets yourself then use multiple characters and split the crafting between them, character a does destro staffs, swords daggers axes and light head chest legs, character b does bow resto staff shield, heavy head chest legs and medium head chest legs etc. Your main issue then is levelling up your crafts on all the characters, depending on how much you play you can get to 9 traits on everything in under 3 months, then you can take your time getting to 9 traits on everything with one character if you want to.

I'm on PS4 or I would gladly help you out. Don't get me wrong, I help craft gear a lot as long as they provide the mats (I don't get bent out of shape about supplying trait/style stones) but a majority of the time, people usually want to buy mats off of me.

I was one of the first to learn all 9 traits on a single character (4/21/15), and it took over a year, so I understand the frustration over research times. I'm not against research times being reduced, but you have only my empathy, not my sympathy. As long as the times remain as they are, you are only in the same boat as everyone that has gone before you. I offer a few tips on what to research, however. Don't wait and do nirn last. Prioritize the most sought after traits on the most popular weapons and armor. For example, learn nirn, sharpened, precise on swords and 2 handers first; learn divines, infused, impenetrable on the armor class you usually wear.

I feel guilty refusing to craft unless they give ALL mats upfront, but I have been burned soooo many damn times that I don't trust anyone anymore.

    The "but, brah, I'm a guildy" line worked for a bit, but I am not made of gold tempers -_-;

It's an unwanted time sink. I get the idea of people who want progress to be apart of this system, but lets face it there is no skill involved in learning traits, it's just a straight up drain.

There is a reason why ZoS stopped adding new traits after nirnhoned. They knew the system was broken and that people would hate to spend another year learning a new trait on all gear slots.

So if your one of those people who like the current timers, be content that ZoS will never add a new armor or weapon trait because of it.

I finished all my 9 trait research as well on my dedicated crafter, he does all crafts, yes... all of them..

I don't charge guildies to make a full set they just need to supply the mats and upgrade materials past Blue. If the person is not a guild member than 5k cost is my standard for a full set of armor with weapons included, same rule= they supply the mats and upgrade materials past blue.

Crafting is cool, I like being able to make whatever I need unless it is a drop set..

Easy fix for this is to release a tenth trait that only 9 trait researchers can unlock. Make the research time fairly low. Make high demand for master crafters.

You do for some of the sets. And those sets might be what is optimal for your build.

Also the research time is one of the biggest turn offs this game has. WoW's system wherd you need to find the rare recepies similar to how here we need to find motifs feels much better. IMO the one who came up with it should be demoted to a role where his ideas doesn't matter. This research system is something I'd expect to find in a bad mobile game.

Edit: I have almost every research done. It is about 2-3 per item left, and thats because I never find the items needed when I ask in zone chat there is noome I can buy them from.

Slowly getting back into this I was dedicated in 2014 and less so in 2015.

    Sloooowly doing my research again.

About 6 traits on all armour.

My woodworking is all 8 traits.

I screwed myself post TG launch I reset my crafter's skills completely and it made the research take over 2 months.

I should never have done that but it did make me gain a few lvls ( I really don't like that char so he is still not max ) level 33 I believe...

I might consider leveling him to max... one day

Depends on platform, region and alliance but the alliance capital should be a good place to look. I'm on PC EU PACT and there's always a store in Mournhold that sells most items for research. You can also join a big trading guild and ask around.

Yup, and this is why I do not offer to craft for others anymore. I don't want their measly tips, I want a clear order with the correct mats. Materials take time to gather, and some are a right pain (nirnhoned stones for example, and some newer racial stones) so value my time more that virtual gold coins.

Edit to add: I craft research items for free or close to it, but item sets... no. Just takes too long traipsing through Tamriel for the right crafting station, and let's not get started on people who want advice first. If you need research items, you can find me on PC EU most nights.

If you play on pc/NA, I'd be happy to make whatever set you want. I craft most stuff for free, and improve it to green. If you want blue or better, give me the tempers. If you want nirn you have to supply the nirn. The exception is the cp160/v16 level stuff because of the huge jump in the amount of materials. I will craft the cp160 stuff for you for free, if you supply the mats.

I did ask someone to pay the 24 gold postage once; I just dumped most of my gold at the bank and didn't want to go from where the Julianos station is in Wrothgar to the bank to get the gold to send the gear.

Currently I can do all 9 traits for heavy and medium armor, greatsword, maul, sword, bow, inferno and resto staffs, shield, and all of the light armor except shoulders and sash. The ones I don't have are being researched now.

It is much nicer when the person asking at least knows what they want. I hate making stuff for someone who says, "I just want it to look cool."
