vMSA makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong

Do I have to make some very specific NB build to even have a chance at this thing? I've got to stage 2 with my stam DK, and cannot even get past stage 1 on my mag tamplar. I can probably get to stage 2 on my templar if I keep going.. but it's more frustrating than anything. I don't feel like I'm ever going to have a chance at a malestrom weapon at this rate. My builds do totally fine up until I go into vMSA, then it's just insta death. What's the secret?

You need another build for maelstrom, not the one you use for dungeons/pvp/crafting
More practice and you'll get it. My 1st completion took me a week (4 days for 9 lvl), now I can do a 2h+ run. Looks like this is my limit, I don't see much improvement as I do more runs

Key is damage. Damage, damage, damage. Check out YouTube videos, there are a ton of nice guides and build videos. After you get the build and everything, it just comes down to endless practice and knowing what spawns where and when. It truly does suck more than anything else in this game aside from cheaters and lag. Oh and the lag will kill you constantly And you'll get crappy RNG. But you just have to power through

For starters, you have to run Destro/Resto, with Healing Ward and Harness Magicka on your back bar. Take some good single target skills (Crippling, Merciless Resolve, Swallow Soul), Inner Light on both bars, Sap Essence for AoE. You can also take Siphoning Attacks for better regen. Most people run with Wall of Elements and Twisting Path. I wouldn't do that in the beginning. Your goal is to figure out your killing rotations and order. You have to single target enemies one by one.

I was assuming you're a magicka build. If you're a stamina build, I petty you. I actually did my first few runs on a stamina NB. Trust me, the weeks of accomplishing that aren't worth it. Go Magicka, practice, practice, practice until you get a 500k+ score easily. Then consider doing it on stamina. The other way around is much harder.

You will never get a Maelstrom weapon at any rate. All you will get is crappy jewelry. And once you make it to the leaderboard (after lots of optimizing and practice), you will finally see items with "Maelstrom" written on them, like Powered Axes, Well-Fitted Shields, and Sharpened Restoration Staves.

If you're doing it for the challenge, it's definitely something where you can learn a lot about your character capabilities. You'll be easily able to solo most content afterwards where you had troubles with 4 people (after the last vMA boss, all world bosses in Wrothgar will seem like adds to you).

But if you're doing it to get a vMA weapon, stop it. It's the reason I quit this game. If you were very lucky, you could get a decent Maelstrom weapon before DB via leaderboard, since the traits were limited to Sharpened, Precise and Defending. Now, they drop in all traits. It is not possible to get a usable weapon anymore. Either you were lucky enough to get one before DB or you weren't. Just giving you a heads-up, so you're not too upset when you finally beat it, open the last chest, and see an Arcane Para Bellum Ring.

Am running 5 hounding All gold with purple stamina enchants on small piece gold on large infused pieces.1molag kena 1 Bloodspawm Molag kena Divine the Blood spawn is Infused.I am also running 2 piece gold leki ring and Neckless with 1 agility ring and 2 Ability swords all gold weapon damage enchants.One Infused and the other sharpened.

I also have 38,257 stamina 18,550 health about 12,000 magic give or take a 2-3,000maguca.

I have undaunted mantle and made it to stage 7 on my stamblade wearing 3 infused 3 impen 1 divines.I recently made none impen small pieces of gear to help out but am still struggling can someone tell me what's wrong with my build and what can possible help MW get through the last 3 rounds.

That feeling of despair is still there even completing it so don't worry.

My first completion was on Stam DK and even with having a magika sorc I had to do it on my dk first.

Play what u know how to play to the best of your ability with the fastest response times to those o *** moments.
A
For DK use Brawler and corrosive armor with grabbing all sigils for first clear.
Stam dk has reflect with wings and gives it a boost other classes do not have.

Make sure you boost all your stats so that you can blast *** in there.
It took me a week to beat and I spent many a hour just dying over and over.

Point I'm trying to make is if I can do it, you can too, just got to believe and keep plugging away.

if you're not at least getting to stage 5 boss you are derinitelt doing something wrong.

Don't play on weekends, and chedk out alcasts videos. He highlights alot of important information for you. Probably the best advice I can give is to sustain you5 resources, sustain your life, recognize and prioritize what's killing tou. If you inow 1 add is more dangerous than others, kill it first.

I had trouble getting past stage 1 boss, then I discovered I was lacking DPS.

Switched up my bars, added in Wall of Elements, and was able to get past him no problem.

Gotten to stage 5 boss, but stuck from a lack of effort. Getting her down to 1.2% before death sucked...

It's not easy, but it's doable.

I think I tried that one over 50 times. looked up all the build and guides on youtube (deltia, alcast etc...) But I gave up.
No maelstrom weapons for me

Don't give up man I felt the same way with round 6 but amn you can do it just get in the zone and tone everything put you can do it.

Also, not dying is your #1 priority. You hcant goin to bed soon. got off late, gotta work early -.-e to heal yourself while following mechanics.When you know what adds are killing you, you start remembering them. You keeo an eye out on that spot where they spawn. It might be your not healing, ddealing damage effectively, ignoring a lethal add when there are 5 stuo=pid ones that wont kill you so much. what spider? also stg 5 boss you wanna dps slow, take out adds, they spawn near certain platforms you can use that very strategically. right before last adds come out, grab shield and piwer sigilm ignore adds and BURN. Other than that there's some rng with his atks that utterly suck

There was a post a bit back about how vMSA was making the poster hate playing the game.

That is EXACTLY the point I reached while attempting it. Could never get past Stage 3. No matter the character, build, etc. Couldn't do it. Just left me wanting to fling my controller through the screen.

That's not healthy.

So much respect for those who accomplish it, though. I'm just not one of them.

What bothers me is that other classes have an easier time to beat it and keep on farming vmsa for the weapons. Like i am not gonna waste my trying to beat it with a stam nightblade when i know a magicka character is a lot easier. All half the people here with flawless conqueror on ps4 are magicka sorcs.

Clear it once on your stam NB and you'll smash it time and time again. They all drop rapidly against stam attacks. I can do it quicker on that now than I can on my Sorc. You just need to do it once and keep going until you crack it.

and magica nightblades. maelstrom absolutely favors magica classes. I could care less about a sorc with flawless, but big respect to stambuilds with stormproof. At least in my eyes.

I'm with ya. It's just wasn't any fun to me, and I have no interest in being that good of a player. But I can pick flowers and fish and steal like champ.

I did stage 6 almost exclusively with poison injection and it seemed to be a breeze. where are you struggling?

My poor stamblade is currently stuck on the final round of vMA.
I just don't have the survivability to clear that round, Daedroths flat out DESTROY me.

the last boss of stage 6 i just dont have enough dps to kill it or something and then i get one shoted.

Hmm i find magplar the easiest to tell you the truth though a lot of people seem to struggle. I mean.... sweeps and honor the dead....

But yes you have to generally build specifically for vmsa.

On a magicka nightblade you have great self heals. So primary damage should come from swallow soul/sap essence and dawnbreaker of smiting. Speed and single target from cripple. Keep merciless resolve up for the damage boost and siphoning attacks for sustain. Other than that... heaps of heavy weaving and use harness mahicka and healing ward as required. Also... lotus fan is often very handy for closing the gap to interupt orpriorituse enemies as needed.

I run 5x julianos, 3 willpower, 1 kena and 2 torugs (torugs resto and destro and hat)

Bars destro: elemental blockade, swallow soul, harness magicka, merciless resolve, inner light, meteor

Bar resto: sap essence, cripple, healing ward, siphoning attacks, inner light, dawnbreaker of smiting

These bars can mixup from round to round. Based on enemy or mechanics i may move smiting to front bar for quicker firing.. or place lotus fan instead of harness magicka.

Mageplar i run similar gear except i use valkyn skoria

Bar 1 dual wield: puncturing sweeps, reflective light , toppling charge/javelin, harness magicka, honor the dead: meteor

Bar 2 destro: elemental blockade, blazing spear, ritual of retribution, channeled focus, honor the dead, dawnbreaker of smiting

Thats the problem with challenging content. It shows whether the devs have any idea what theyre doing balancing classes.

Last time I checked pve monsters did no crititcal dmg so Impenetrable is useless, or any cps into that star. But, they might have changed that.

Well I got to stage 7 with it but I have change my gear to the Divine infused regular PVE setup I was using my PVP gear.I did well in it you can't say that's not true if I made it it round 7.

I disagree about PvP builds.
This is exactly where PvP builds shine (for the most part) because PvP players are in exact same situations every breathing minute. Having 3 brain dead mobs hitting you 5k each is one thing... Try the same when having 3 real life people with skill and strategy hitting you for 10k each (sometimes more) - you see my point.
If you have a build that keeps you alive in PvP, vMA is far from undoable. Just memorize the mechanics and you are laughing.

Done it on all my chars and I never changed a thing on my builds, as they're all PvP builds and work just as fine in vMA. Only builds that would struggle are pure glass cannon builds with no sustain whatsoever and 15k health.
