Pelinal's is a pretty lackluster set because you would have to split your resources between magicka and stamina, spell and weapon critical chance, spell and physical penetration, and champion points which all are more important than raw weapon or spell damage. Also, grim focus and merciless resolve are magical damage and scale off max magicka anyway.

@NativeJoe maybe it's the mageblade bias, but I use waaaay more magic than stamina. I have everything morphed to magic because they heal, escape, and have more utility than stamina, in my opinion.

So I accept lower damage for the resource pool that I think I'm or should be using more. Right now to reduce need to heal and ease sustain I'm going HA and baharas curse gear and Molag kena as my shoulders. Then just going sharpened and nirnhorned swords.

Interested in understanding weapon spell damage and resource pools the other way. I need to gold everything and get divine Molag kena, but I'm at 2500ish power with cp, no buffs, not optimized stats and not all runes. I'll post my pool and stats when I get on tonite.

@susmitds thanks that great info. So it kinda seems the smart approach is to have a stam bar and a mag bar? If we have a high regen you can recover one while using the other?

I'm gonna look up sets with rings and see what looks complimentary. Thoughts?

I actually beat VMA with 5 pelinal 2 blood sworn 3 agil arcane on my templar. The set is so much fun i love it for solo play

The only class I can see using Pelinal's Aptitude even mildly effectively is DKs due to them having access to 4 major buffs (Brutality, Sorcery, Savagery and Prophecy) thru 2 of their class skills.

However, even with that going for them, I don't believe it possible to get your magic, stamina, weapon/spell crit AND weapon/spell damage high enough to even warrant using a 5 piece set that offers nothing apart from regen and health.

Molag Kena would probably be a must for a Hybrid as it affects both your weapon and spell damage, but managing the resource cost might bet tricky. Other options would be Engine Guardian but that doesn't help with damage.

Dark Elf is the only race that grants both magic and stamina so that's probably the best bet as well. Probably offset the slight bit more magic by slotting more attribute points into stamina to compensate.

That leaves you with 2 blank slots (Dual Wield is probably a must as it helps weapon/spell damage the most) and Jewelry to increase your weapon/spell damage and weapon/spell crit to a decent enough level that you can actually use the set. Can't think of any sets nowadays that come in jewelry that would increase weapon/spell damage or crit though so you're probably better off using Briarheart now that it comes in weapons to get a nice boost to weapon damage and crit, while spell crit suffers behind a little bit.

Looks like 5H/1M/1L is probably the only good combo as the Wraith passive increase both Weapon and Spell damage, and Constitution, in theory, should keep resources managed. Although, you might be able to make up the Spell Crit you're missing out on by going 5L/1M/1H but loss out on the extra damge from the Wraith passive and have more magic recovery/cost reduction from that and use CP to make up for the stamina cost and recovery.

30 into Thamaturge minimal for the Weapon Crit CP and whatever else into Apprentice for Spell Crit CP.
