From side conversations: There is no new server. Japan will default to NA but be able to pick from NA or EU.

Nothing was cancelled. If you read the rest of the comments on that post, the existence of a Japanese server was a mere speculation. The game will be released in Japanese, that's what was announced.

The game is not on its way to RIP. Please stop spreading rumors based on limited evidence. You might be unhappy about One Tamriel, but there are also people who are happy about it (e.g., people in multi-faction guilds). There will always be disagreement about whether a player likes something or not. At the end of the day, one should look at the positives and the negatives and decide whether the negatives outweigh the positives so much that they should just leave. So again, the announcement of One Tamriel does not necessitate the end of times. It might mean some players will leave because they don't like it to the point that they no longer enjoy the game, but it will also bring in new players just because it is more open world.

And my dreams of a sub 270 latency, dashed by the accountant. If only one tamriel resulted in world PVP, but I guess they have plenty of other issues to not fix at the moment.

Wait... so saying that they're not going to add a brand new server that they never said they had planned to add in the first place is somehow the same as purging servers in other MMOs? Um, what?

Exactly what part of that involves anyone from ZOS saying there would ever be a Japanese server? Selling it in Japan and having a Japanese localization are not the same things as having a Japanese server...

Again, selling the game and having localizations are one thing, servers are another, and there was never going to be a Japanese server.

if they add japanese servers, they might aswell move the location in central US.. i hate how i have 100+ping cuz servers located all the way in west.. major advantage low ping

The official ads never said there was going to be Japanese servers. It was just wishful thinking on players' side.

The email you received is from DMM. Was DMM ever in the talks with ZOS to run this server? Where is the news for that? And you are speculating that because this thing that you thought was happening is not going to happen anymore, it means the game is dying. Again, this is very limited evidence (you and your interpretation of what this email you received means), and not enough to derive conclusions from.

As a last point, please stop using ad hominem arguments. You did this with at least 3 players so far.

Players: "Yay, we're going to have a Japanese server! This is a great sign. We all march forward to a marvellous sunlit upland together."

Now:

ZOS: "No Japanese server"

Players: "Japanese server? Who said there would be a Japanese server? We never even entertained the idea. Of course there never was going to be one, we all knew that."

Try as I might, I cannot find any reference to any announcement about a separate Japanese server originally being intended, although there are independent articles with that in the headline but no reference to it in the articles themselves which just deal with the announcement that the game is being launched in Japan.

In the absence of any clear evidence that a Japanese server was ever officially announced, speculation that it is cancelled is just another attempt to whip up forum hysteria with no substance behind it at all.

I'm happy to stand corrected if a Japanese server was officially announced, along with its subsequent cancellation, but let's at least see some links.

RU BDO: 35 servers on release, now - 12, all other was deleted because of population of the game become lower than intended to keep them

TESO pre-2016: plans to make separate server for JP, confirmed by DMM
Matt Firor on closed meeting of ESO developers near Spring 2016:
- Guys, population is lower than intended, we need cancel JP server, but bring JP localization, it can fill empty servers
- We also will add Tamriel One, and you will never see empty vet locations again(its the same as MERGE 3 servers into ONE)
