Wow the lag!

Seriously! What the heck is wrong with this game. Every time I, and MANY others, get into a large-ish scale pvp battle, pings shoot up to like 400+(most times over 500). Makes pvp a laggy slide show. I don't know how many times I've hit my Ult to have it not fire at all, but take all the ultimate I've built up. This is just insane! My guild and I came back like 2-3 mos ago, because we heard about the VR stuff being removed......and we LOVE that. But this lag is turning us away again. We really only play the game to pvp. With the lag this bad, it's almost assured that we will be leaving again. PLEASE fix this! The pvp in this game is REALLY fun when there's little lag(not 400+ ping and a slide show).

It's not just tonight. It's pretty much every night when there's a fight with over 40 players combined. Ping shoots up to at least 150. This is the type of crap that NGE SWG used to run into, not as bad of a slide show in this game, but that's what it reminds me of. And their servers were ancient. Running on Pentium 3 server CPU's. I mean what kind of hardware are these servers running when the game lags this bad in a portion of the game that was a main selling point(massive siege pvp). Get it together ZOS!

Tbh a 150 ping should still play the game smoothly. The problems is so many people on the server since the update you need to wait for the ppl to leave again. I have the same problem on xbox but when I play late at night there's no problem because less people are on.unless I get into a 60vs60 battle then there's no hope.

Well it doesn't turn into a slide show for me at 150, but you can "feel" the lag even then. I would give my left armor for a 150 ping in a 60v60!

    Honestly man, you're confusing me.

I wonder if the upcoming battlegrounds will be able to play under 100 ping. That should really be the #1 priority.

The reason why pings spike is because the server is under so much load it becomes slow to respond to them. It has nothing to do with network latency -- which ping is intended to be an indicator of.

Ultimately, it is not a server problem per se. Any kind of server can be overwhelmed if its limitations are exceeded -- and all servers have limitations. The issue is bad game design. We play large scale open world PVP with game systems fundamentally designed for 12 player PVE instances.

I see the game go through cycles. When there are a lot of competitive organized raids running, prime time/poplocked performance sucks. When players become discouraged and find something else to do, performance improves for a while as there are fewer competitive organized raids.

When this happens, the optimists among us tend to think something has been fixed, but that hasn't been the case yet. During the periods of less competitive play, performance is good and PVP draws players back until competition again peaks and the server again becomes overwhelmed.

The solution is to redesign PVP gameplay until the server can be improved to handle current gameplay design. @ZOS_BrianWheeler should have done this two years ago. I am certain ZOS recognizes this, but doesn't bother because its focus has been and is on making the core game more accessible for single player TES fans.

Welcome all to Australia normal ping lol I am constantly cruising around Cyrodiil at 340 ping and when a big fight happens then it can go way up. So anybody bitching about 150 ping all I can do is LOL

The past few days have been some of the worst combat lag I've experienced in a very long time, even if you're no where near a fight. Here's something interesting I've been noticing - my ping will rarely go above 500 now, but plays like it's at 999+. Did ZOS fudge their ping tracker so it looks better than it actually is? I realize conspiracy theories are silly, but I swear I almost never see my ping get to where it used to go, but over the past few days the game handles equal or worse to high ping episodes of yesteryears.

When it gets this bad, my HtD takes literally 2.5-3 seconds to go off after I've hit the button. Yes, I count it, with mississippi's and everything.

    I'm bitching about a 400+ ping, not 150. As I said, I would gladly take a 150 ping in a big fight.

I find this to be true as well. It's strange that even though the ping numbers are lower then ever , the lag is more intense at these numbers . The ping indicator also seems to take longer to respond then before the last patch . I will get notable lag at around 300 ping where as before , that wasn't high enough to cause any noticeable lag .

I noticed this too. I saw my ping was at 450, and though "well, at least it's not THAT bad" (which is awful to think). Then I had to wait 2-3 seconds to get through a door after clicking E.

That's 999+ behavior for sure, and it's been happening consistently for the past few days. MY ping might not have gone above 5/600, but it acts like the 999+ ping we're used to.

The ping meter is a lie Stephen, a lie! It gives me no special powers. It gives me no nutrients!

Seriously, something fishy is going on with the ping meter. My memory is a bit hazy but I first noticed something hinky either shortly before the DB release or just after. I've been taking a break since a week after DB hit because Dark Stalker was hosed up and the feel of combat just felt off.

But I agree completely. I've been playing since a march 2014 beta weekend and can pretty much feel the ping like a jedi senses the force. I definitely feel a disturbance. Maybe it's some architectural changes that they are experimenting with under the hood to find solutions for the high density player lag?

6 months from now there will be a LOT less ppl playing and paying for the game if this remains as is.

There is always lag. We are all used to it. However there has been massively bad lag these past few days. Particularly during the 2-3 hours at the start of Primetime. For me and others that I run with the lag is really bad from 7:30pm-10:00pm EST roughly. It has been consistently near un playable around that time since monday.

An interesting side note: when the lag gets back to normal the campaign is still pop locked. I'm not sure what's changes but it does not seem to be an issue of too many players in Cyro.

Had to agree that the lag is exceptionally bad lately. Being from Asia, I'm used to the lag and my slightly slower response to almost everything, but it rarely interfered with the usual game chores. The lag issue lately made me wait 2 to 3 seconds for a door to open after pressing E, waiting 2 seconds for the bank to get what I want to withdraw or deposit, and sometimes even caused my toon to be suddenly whisked off to where it was 2 seconds ago when walking. It was so bad once that my screen even changed to a loading screen for a little while when my toon suddenly ran to somewhere else far ahead. Jumping from 200+ to 999+ ping is the norm now.
It is starting to look like it's not really an issue on my side. But I don't think the ping meter was fudged though. I think the lag spikes was too fast for the ping meter to keep up.
