I thought about subbing but changed my mind because of casuals. It's all about them casuals. casuals.

Of course that is true for the non-DLC portion, but then to be able to get into Wrothgar and Hew's bane (and now DB), you have to subscribe. I know you don't have to.. but, that is not the point. Normally for a good game, such as this, you would drop the extra money and get the DLC. However, unlike this game, other games' DLC are normally a one-time purchase. To experience the most out of ESO and Tamriel, you would need to get all the DLC. So, overall, ESO is technically subscription required. I find that funny because there is no mention of a required subscription for the DLCs when you first buy the main game. I guess.. unless you have the time and dedication to properly research beforehand.

I cancelled my sub a while back and took about a year off - came back to the game and resubbed for the craft bag, crowns, and DLCs and honestly am having a complete blast playing again.
I don't really care about PVP, so all the issues with cheating and doing 8 less DPS than the other guy really amounts to nothing for me.
I have no real lag issues, have only seen a few minor bugs, and only one broken quest since my time back. But then again, my entire existence doesn't revolve around what ZoS does or doesn't do.

This mindset that it is limited to PVP is so bogus and speaks to a lack of understanding/comprehension/effort. People were bumped from the VMA leaderboards (PVE content) by people who were cheating. That means people did not get a chance at the weapon or jewelry they earned. People to this day could be doing a leaderboard qualifying run and continue to be kicked off the board by folks cheating. Same with the trials. Its not just a PVP issue.

I think you missed the bigger picture here.
I'm aware that cheating spills over to PVE as well as the issues with PVP, and essentially affects the greater community. My point is that if you are willing to quit because you aren't on the VMA leaderboard and don't get a weapon or piece of jewelry so your "toon" can be more "e-awesome" than the guy beside you, it may be time to take a step back and adjust your priorities.
I've been on this earth a long time - I find that there will always be cheaters, exploiters, bots, etc. If you let them ruin your enjoyment then the terrorists win. You will not find a game MMO or otherwise that cannot be exploited. To take your toys home and quit because of it is just, well silly.

As I stated in my thread, I cancelled my ESO+ subscription because I have no reason to believe ZOS will be bringing the game back to something I want to support financially.
The straw that broke the camel's back would be Matt Firor's interview where he basically wrote off zero-day subscribers like me. In his words, ZOS will cater the game to people who log in after a DLC is out, play for 2 weeks then leave again.
I and many others have subscribed to the game since early access and have kept our subs through the initial item dupe exploits, bot-ridden delves, teleporting crafting node farmers, then the infamous "lighting" patch that broke Cyrodiil bringing most players' FPS down to single digits, the bait-and-switch of announcing their commitment to a subscription-only model and then going F2P, the months upon months of waiting for new content which going forward will consist of tiny "episodic" DLC...
We've also seen every single aspect of the game turn into a grind and RNG fest. Remember when motifs were books you randomly found and went "oh, neat, a motif!"? With the Dwemer one they introduced 14 separate pages for each motif, and with Glass they broke each of those into 10 fragments tied to RNG and a non-repeatable daily quest. Item sets are the same, layer upon layer of RNG, coupled with BoP, meaning that regardless of the effort you put in you may never see a particular piece of gear ever...
Not to mention the constant bugs - after TG launched I couldn't res using soul gems for 3 weeks, now since DB I can't use mementos; random long loading screens, especially in Cyrodiil, inability to use doors without switching weapons, roll dodging and/or killing your firstborn, in-combat status for minutes after any action has ended, rendering you unable to mount or efficiently recover resources...
In Matt Firor's view, which for all purposes is ZOS' view, these players are worth nothing to the company. Zero. I've spent north of €400 on this game, between the purchase and keeping my sub from the very first day. Apparently they don't appreciate my patronage, nor do they need it going forward. I'm happy to comply.

EXACTLY i let mine sub drop for the first time when i saw the pts. I would add they have still not fixed stuff bug reported months ago like alchemy enchantments.
I stop it when i see there isnt balance between CLASSES
and when i understand they cant fix LAGs

Pretty much this^^^
I have played this game pretty much every day since launch. ZOS won't mis me, but perhaps they will miss the roughly $300/ per year I have given them in subscriptions and crown store fluff I have purchased.
I feel a bit stupid caring as much as I do about a game who's creator cares so little about it's customer base. It's a shame really because this game could have had legs.
@ZOS_MattFiror saying there are no hardcore ESO players.

Anyone got a link to the interview where he states this?
Seen it referenced a couple of times on the forums since I came back to the game but I cannot find it anywhere.
EDIT:
Found it!

He didn't say that.
He says that their metrics show people leaving and coming back a lot and that you don't so much see the "hardcore" constant play gamer as much since they removed the subscription model. He simply commented on the way the metrics have changed since subscriptions went away, but folks are treating it like he's denying they even exist and therefore deserve no consideration.
His wording is poor, admittedly, but he's commenting on the trend in general, not denying a subgroup of players exist.

For me there were are different reasons, some based on what's been said in this thread. But I'm willing to see how this whole One Tamriel thing plays out.
But now main issue is after hitting CP 160, I've lost motivation to progress since I'm not going to use any of the gear I get in drops. I don't want to change the way my armor looks with specific motifs. I spent gold and time in getting the look I want and I'll be damned if I'm going to use some random drop. Even when all the drops are upgrades for me. Now if I could at least change the look of the armor to any motif I currently know, I would have zero issues.
And if I upgrade all my crafted gear, well that's great. Now what's my motivation to run dungeons? I like upgrading and hunting for better gear, but that part is lacking for me. Once I level up one more guy, I'm sure I'll park him and/or finish the DLC's.
I really really want to continue playing this game. It's so amazing in so many ways. I sit there and think and wonder what the hell I was doing in WoW all those years.
