Pve issues reslulting from pvp related complaints, and some comments on sorc changes

Hello my fellow ESO-heads!

This is gonna be long, but worth the read for those who love this game and want all classes to be interesting and fun to play.

I am sure most of you have heard some commotion regarding the changes to sorcs, as well as certain dungeons being made more...accessible. I myself am on xb1, but have read a lot from pc/mac users and their experiences, as well as seeing the obvious from the patch notes. This post is in order to both offer ideas that may benefit the class and game, gain input from other players (of all classes) about what would make things balanced and fun for a class that is becoming less of both.

I am absolutely in love with my magicka sorc. Something about the playstyle from launch just clicked with me, and I and friends have faithfully explored (and repeatedly conquered) the toughest pve areas of tamriel. All classes are fun to play and have many cool skills idiosyncratic to them. What I'm saying is that sorcs have been gradually losing the functionality of the select good skills that are unique to the class.

My biggest issue with all these changes is that they, from what I can tell, in response to complaints in pvp. I run the sewers and help my guildmates farm for emporer, but do not identify as a pvp player at all really. Pve is my jam, and to me is the most enjoyable part of the game. I have some issues with what is going on. I feel that some of the changes to sorcs (and the constant attention geared towards buffing pets...why?) and the nerfing of the hard dungeons really serves to take away some of the games fun factor for me.

Pve and pvp are very different in terms of how you play, and fixing 'pvp problems' has unfortunately caused what I feel will be some very big issues for those of us who actually derive much enjoyment from pve. Pve is not weak sauce or kindergarten. It is an opportunity for a one player/a combination of players to work together to succeed at things ranging from very easy to very very hard. But now everything is gonna be way easier. You wont have to worry about what skills you need to swap for the planar inhibitor, cuz we will probably just weave the whole time while a templar tanks using annulment and only 6 portals total show up so you don't have to worry about ensuring ranged people get portals.

My favorite things in the game are wgt, imperial city prisons, and vmsa. As a stormproof sorc who loves a challenge in pve, I feel very sad with the changes that are happening. Here's a haiku; the scenario is fighting Molag Kena with a group.

"My whole group is down :open_mouth: !
wards! rez healer! melt atro!
Streak, frag, execute!"

Here's another, this time after the patch.

"That was your first time?
Hey! we all got the helmet!
Let's two-man prisons."

So about the changes to sorcs now.

I don't really care about the wards being shortened. Anyone sorc who has done vet maelstrom knows you spam hw five times in three seconds when the crematorial guard is shooting a nuke out of his face. But there are times where the ward will gradually go down from weaker enemies and stay up for the full 20 seconds. This takes stress off of the healer, and allows me to use more resources to do my role- melt stuff. What I do care about is nerfing hard dungons and making our unique skills more and more useless. Also, the cost of streak.......

Here's an example. Fighting Lord Warden Dusk in imp city prisons, at one point two portals appear on the floor. Two members have to go into one portal, and two in another. I WAIT and see who goes where, then streak at the last minute to the necessary portal to ensure that three of us don't insta-die. I might be at half magic from dpsing (like I should be) and if the consecutive streak cost is increased, then that creative tactic puts me in a position to not dps as effectively as I can for a while after we fall through the portal. Why? because some sorcs run away too much in pvp by misinterpreting what 'bolt escape' means! Bolt escape means escape the uppercut that a Nord with 4000 weapon damage is casting at your face, then turn around and cast spells at him. It does not mean escape from the Nord in general and then continue to escape Cyrodiil altogether.

Wards being shortened is sorta fine I guess. But now everyone has it one if they level up light armor. That's annoying. But eso changes, and so must we if we want to be competitive I guess. We can still stack I guess.

And why are pets constantly the area that ZoS focuses on to improve? Who runs endgame stuff with a scamp?

So maybe no one will agree, or maybe zenimax will consider things like this. I just wanted to share my thoughts. I love my sorc, and would hate to have to give up playing him because he very well may be becoming obsolete compared to other classes.

Anyways, I do love this game, I don't want to sound unappreciative of the good times I've had in those dungeons on my sorc with good friends, and maybe these changes will end up being really good when trying to actually put together a rotation. Maybe we wont even notice that much of a change. Being creative with my skill bar is always fun, so who knows.

tl;dr
change stuff in pvp, but not necessarily in pve too. they are kinda separate worlds.

I guess we don't like characters we are attached to and have spent a lot of time with having the potential to become the 'nerfed class' for the next year haha.

That and this was my first post on this site. Only noticed one other thread :-p

To me the biggest thing is nerfing the dungeons if I think about it. The sorc changes are what they are, but leave the hard stuff hard.

Maybe I'm a minority in that regard though

Because people believe Zenimax will pay attention if posts are flooding their forums when in truth Zenimax simply does not give a crap.

Everyone knows that pet sorcs are filthy exploiters, abusing the crap targeting system :p
I totally never do that with my atro, *cough cough*

Actually since patch my overall dps as a sorc has increase lightly with the change to sharpened, I don't use enchant on my staff since I run the Maestrom and yet the single change made me hit the 25k dps bar really more often and that in almost every condition.

I've also made some changes to my overall build in order to adapt, add Dark Conversion to my overload bar so I always get a full mana bar inbetween thrash mobs (Dark Conversion being switch for boss most of the time). Also change the approach on overload to make it my number 2 dps thingy so I can use it when needed or when out of mana, change I made by turning it to energy overload.

So overall, I don't say that Sorcerer didn't get a nerf in regard to many stamina class, but as far as I can tell when I'm running in a group, the fact that my class is really a range class also helps the group to adapt to various fighting possibility. Indeed the sorc isn't the go to class since the patch and I'm pretty sure I could handle myself on other class. But overall I do feel like our fighting performance aren't lacking as much as it could have been.

Some stuff is still an issue that's for sure, example of shield which are crazy weak in pvp, but as far as pve goes... I'm not sure. Maybe Inside a full raid environnement, but in a small group the sorcerer still hold a pretty good place.

The reality of Sorc as I came up to understand is that the class is always suppose to maintain a good dps no matter the type of fight which isn't what other class can do since most of them needs to be close to the boss. Some classes also can benefit from long range fight but they aren't as mobile as we are (templar is a good example). At the end, I'm really wondering if it's not a very few people who are posting amazing number without the pre-requisite overall group buffing system that they have in place that are lowering the view of people about their own class.

Remember that as far as Nightblade/Templar and Dk goes their spell power is way weaker then ours overall of 6% and on some class their magika is also weaker by 8% since templar and dk don't get the 8% more magika. So while those class do outperform in a group where they are getting buff it is likely that they will be affect more then us when those buff are gone.

To conclude, the sorcerer is an independant magika dps as the nightblade is.They are both receiving a lot of utility within their own build which doesn't mean they cannot be good in a group but does mean that they will receive slightly less bonus compare to other classes Inside that environnement.

I do yet have to test vma to see how it now perform but, I do believe that the current set up I'm using will adapt... not sure yet :)

And those other threads are too long gone by people quoting the longest paragraphs for a pitiful response, blowing out the merit of reading through those pages.

I do believe change will come but of course no results will emerge anytime soon.

I believe they stated that the shield nerfs where for Sorc dominance in vmsa, not for pvp shield stacking.

I think this was actually the power surge crit heal. Like I said, in vmsa, if your ward is still up in 20 seconds, you didn't even need it. Now it might be even easier too, since we can stack harness magicka and let THAT provide physical resistance on top of hw. So I'm not sure that is true....

Personally I'm just sick of zos reinventing the game every 3 months. Results in a character you worked on, researched, geared up becoming weaker or unable to perform the role you built for without almost starting again. For me it means I have no attachment to my characters as they're not "my" characters or my vision", they are zos, constantly changing unfocussed brain fart.

^^brightblade, I think you just hammered the nail on the head. That is the core of my frustration in the end. I fiercely love my character, and wish they could just leave things alone and let it sit fo a while.

    Thanks for your post!

Pet Sorcs.... well.... look at it this way.

These brave souls cannot get any worse, so only buffs await in the future :)
