Hello my fellow ESO-heads!
This is gonna be long, but worth the read for those who love this game and want all classes to be interesting and fun to play.
I am sure most of you have heard some commotion regarding the changes to sorcs, as well as certain dungeons being made more...accessible. I myself am on xb1, but have read a lot from pc/mac users and their experiences, as well as seeing the obvious from the patch notes. This post is in order to both offer ideas that may benefit the class and game, gain input from other players (of all classes) about what would make things balanced and fun for a class that is becoming less of both.
I am absolutely in love with my magicka sorc. Something about the playstyle from launch just clicked with me, and I and friends have faithfully explored (and repeatedly conquered) the toughest pve areas of tamriel. All classes are fun to play and have many cool skills idiosyncratic to them. What I'm saying is that sorcs have been gradually losing the functionality of the select good skills that are unique to the class.
My biggest issue with all these changes is that they, from what I can tell, in response to complaints in pvp. I run the sewers and help my guildmates farm for emporer, but do not identify as a pvp player at all really. Pve is my jam, and to me is the most enjoyable part of the game. I have some issues with what is going on. I feel that some of the changes to sorcs (and the constant attention geared towards buffing pets...why?) and the nerfing of the hard dungeons really serves to take away some of the games fun factor for me.
Pve and pvp are very different in terms of how you play, and fixing 'pvp problems' has unfortunately caused what I feel will be some very big issues for those of us who actually derive much enjoyment from pve. Pve is not weak sauce or kindergarten. It is an opportunity for a one player/a combination of players to work together to succeed at things ranging from very easy to very very hard. But now everything is gonna be way easier. You wont have to worry about what skills you need to swap for the planar inhibitor, cuz we will probably just weave the whole time while a templar tanks using annulment and only 6 portals total show up so you don't have to worry about ensuring ranged people get portals.
My favorite things in the game are wgt, imperial city prisons, and vmsa. As a stormproof sorc who loves a challenge in pve, I feel very sad with the changes that are happening. Here's a haiku; the scenario is fighting Molag Kena with a group.
"My whole group is down

!
wards! rez healer! melt atro!
Streak, frag, execute!"
Here's another, this time after the patch.
"That was your first time?
Hey! we all got the helmet!
Let's two-man prisons."
So about the changes to sorcs now.
I don't really care about the wards being shortened. Anyone sorc who has done vet maelstrom knows you spam hw five times in three seconds when the crematorial guard is shooting a nuke out of his face. But there are times where the ward will gradually go down from weaker enemies and stay up for the full 20 seconds. This takes stress off of the healer, and allows me to use more resources to do my role- melt stuff. What I do care about is nerfing hard dungons and making our unique skills more and more useless. Also, the cost of streak.......
Here's an example. Fighting Lord Warden Dusk in imp city prisons, at one point two portals appear on the floor. Two members have to go into one portal, and two in another. I WAIT and see who goes where, then streak at the last minute to the necessary portal to ensure that three of us don't insta-die. I might be at half magic from dpsing (like I should be) and if the consecutive streak cost is increased, then that creative tactic puts me in a position to not dps as effectively as I can for a while after we fall through the portal. Why? because some sorcs run away too much in pvp by misinterpreting what 'bolt escape' means! Bolt escape means escape the uppercut that a Nord with 4000 weapon damage is casting at your face, then turn around and cast spells at him. It does not mean escape from the Nord in general and then continue to escape Cyrodiil altogether.
Wards being shortened is sorta fine I guess. But now everyone has it one if they level up light armor. That's annoying. But eso changes, and so must we if we want to be competitive I guess. We can still stack I guess.
And why are pets constantly the area that ZoS focuses on to improve? Who runs endgame stuff with a scamp?
So maybe no one will agree, or maybe zenimax will consider things like this. I just wanted to share my thoughts. I love my sorc, and would hate to have to give up playing him because he very well may be becoming obsolete compared to other classes.
Anyways, I do love this game, I don't want to sound unappreciative of the good times I've had in those dungeons on my sorc with good friends, and maybe these changes will end up being really good when trying to actually put together a rotation. Maybe we wont even notice that much of a change. Being creative with my skill bar is always fun, so who knows.
tl;dr
change stuff in pvp, but not necessarily in pve too. they are kinda separate worlds.
